The Talekeeper kept an whole entire race's memories. Memories... we just dealt with this particular thing in Dawntrail. I have no idea if it'll bridge to anything, but its certainly making me ponder. Also, loved the video! The Shadowlord's story was my favorite when I played 11 as a kid.
I'm actually pretty sure its setting up for a ff9 reference / raid later. Garland uses the cycle of souls to keep Terra alive and it has to do with memories, which could be the core of the ff14's universe, and this also opens up the possibility of using necron for a raid, which is ff9's final boss that didnt really get much explanation or development imo.
Imagine a ffXI collab where its instanced like bazja but plays like FFXI with a small campaign to crossover with XI to test the interest in a FFXI remake.
@@SynodicScribeThose bagpipes were the sole reason I'd go into my settings and turn my BGM down, but upon returning not long ago I actually kinda love them!
FFXI lore is so robust and heavy. I have always loved it so much. It breaks my heart that so many people will never be exposed to it because it was in an MMO.
After more than 15 years playing FFXI and the announcement of a 24-player raid series, got me on tears and excitement... Ark Angels, Shadow Lord, sky, sea, Dynamis and see some of NPC from the game. I hope they do justice to the game since this game made it possible to enjoy FFXIV like we do today. Proud Galka player
Odin granted The Talekeeper reincarnation and also gave his left eye. I did not know that you played! You are truly a blessing, thanks as always for what you do!
Shadow lord might have the soul of an ascian similarly to Gaia-- it would explain his lasting memory of his people, malice, the ability to rally the beast tribes to his side, rebirth after defeat and his abilities in general during his fight in FFXI. this is all speculation though
Haven't been this excited for one of your videos in a good while. This was put together amazingly and gave a wonderful, while tragic, picture of the Shadow Lord's creation, reasoning, and drive. If you do make more XI content in the future, I would consume that content with a spoon. Thank you for the great work!
You did your very best with the summary, FFXI lore is super dense - and you still covered all the points that are likely to be touched upon in the raid since it's being reimagined for an audience that for the most part will know very little in the way of context for it all. I am interested to see where they decide to go as far as integrating it into FFXIV's world - will they tie it to Eureka at all, will it be its own self contained thing, or will it branch out and become integral to future narratives the way the Omega raids did? It was my first MMO so obviously I'd love whatever attention they're willing to give it. XD
It's a longshot, but I get the feeling that the shadow lord may be an "entity" for XIV rather than a "person" who has turned evil. I think this because of the situation surrounding memories and souls in DT. I imagine the mass disappearance of so many memories at one time like what occurred in DT, COULD be a catalyst of sorts. The issue I run into with this theory is that the elf character we have been shown, is an unknown factor to me. And I get the feeling they will play a very important part in the questline.
I beat Shadow Lord yesterday, and his lines, and character just reached me. Even during the 7.1 trailers, he stood out the most to me. After two clears of the raid, I was itching for lore, on him and FFXI. I'm happy Scribe never disappoints. 🙂
Super awesome video, I especially loved the illustrations of the relevant characters. Where's the 1 hour edition? 👀 Hope to see more lore when we know more what Echoes of Vana'diel is all about!
Actually that sister isint dead, she lost her memory from that attack and can be found in-game in the small fishing town of Selbina under the name Mathilde. Her Brother Aldo is the one you work with in the main story and is the leader of the Tenshodo in Jueno. When you first meet him He had adopted a girl named Verena who can speak in beast tongue and pretends shes his sister from the trauma. They never find out the truth but you the player do.
To be honest... I would absolutely love FF11 in the Synodic Scribe's style as well! FF11 has been sooo long ago and I only remember glimpses of its story. There are barely any channels that properly summarize 11's story. Some of these don't even have voice over because they were created so long ago :o
Considering there was a little event in the past called The Maiden's Rhapsody (which originally ran in November 2015 but had a couple reruns) involving an FFXI character by the name of Iroha who was displaced in a similar manner to Noctis from FFXV and Clive from FFXVI, I think this Alliance Raid story is going to kind of build off of that and be another sort of merging of worlds like what happened with Alexandria.
It takes place in Yak'Tel and involves memories of a world not our own now buried in the woods - my hope is that it will involve those incredibly suspicious irradiated meteors that created the cenotes and messed up the land the Mamool Ja inhabit. We know Bakool Ja Ja is involved so problems in his homeland make sense.
As revealed in Wings of the Goddess, Odin played a part in the creation of the Shadow Lord. Raogrimm was dying not far from the Dark Proto-Crystal. In the shadow era time line Lilith fights to preserve as the true time line, it is revealed Odin granted a similar power to The Dark Rider and escaped the Dark Proto-Crystal to then return to Aht Urghan to continue his war with Alexander. Of course that version is reconned in to explain the Dark Proto-Crystal that is found broken beneath Xarcabard during the events of Chains of Promathia, but I don’t think it’s ever a retcon. This stuff was built on over time.
I'll admit that I hope its more in line with how they did the Neir Raids. That being from another universe / dimension; instead of being a shard or shoe horned into being one of the previous eras. Being an MMO that is ongoing; means it would be hard to squeeze into Etheirys' history, and making it a shard just doesnt feel right either.
I can only assume the Shadow Lord would Separate within FF14 than his arrival in FF11. also, Yes. Please bring more FF11 Lore, it gives Novices Players like me a shot and leg up on what the story of FF11 is and was, once upon a time.
I really really REALLY need the settings of these two MMOs to be connected in some way. I want this alliance raid series to somehow completely recontextualize everything we thought we knew about both settings while contradicting nothing.
Considering they introdcued the concept of Dynamis....the Dynamis Lord should be trying to invade the universe of Etheirys Also the Shadow Lord is my fave FFXI character, he's sooo coool, I can't wait to see him...
I wonder if Prishe will bring us into "current day" Vana'diel, or will we somehow be part of the van that fought against the Shadowlord's troops back in the era of the Shadowreign (Wings of the Goddess)
Given the presence of auracite in both ffxi and ffxiv I could see the storytelling team being able to weave the two stories together if they want to. I could see them going either way but would personally like to see it at least somewhat involved in the history of shards.
I admit, the only Shadow Lord I knew was the one from Nier/Nier Replicant, so I thought they were doing a Neir 1/Neir Replicant crossover at first. Still, this was really enlightening. Looking forward to throwing down with this poor forsaken soul in the raid!
I'm thinking that Square might weave the world of Vana'diel into Etheirys. This alliance raid series may show that Vana'diel was probably the other world that Sphene was trying to access through interdimensional fusion.
My stepbro played XI a lot and I enjoyed the little snippits I saw. I do want to try playing myself, but spending money on both XI and XIV is asking quite a bit, especially considering XI seems to also rack up a charge per character you have.
I could see the world of ffxi being part of a shard that like before was on the verge of destruction and the calamity dropped part of them in Alexandria. They were then absorbed into the pool of souls and one of the talekeepers reemerges as a threat.
I hope it follows a similar structure as the Nier raids, with side quests in between so we can get a more fleshed out story ( although the Nier raids missed that mark)
I just don't want it be integrated in the world like the Ivalice Raids. "Jeuno was part of Etherys all along".... I would hate that. We already know from the Shantotto and Iroha Collab that Vana'diel is a different World and I would like this to stay true. Maybe I could accept it as a Byproduct of Interdimentional Fusion.... but please don''t make it that Vanadiel was always part of Etherys.
Beings my only real touching of 11 came in FF14's crossover quest they did a few months back, and also Dissidia, I'm interested to see where this alliance raid goes when I hit Dawntrail. With that said, I'm already hoping for a remix of Awakening that can match the Record Keeper remix.
You forgot that Odin, the Dark Divinity (That Eureka recreates btw) gave Raugrimm his Shadowlord powers. Eureka not only recreated one of Vana'diels GODS, but recreated what equates to Zodiarks/Promathia's angelic servents that watched over one of the Zilarts sacred cities. I think that's how Galuf understood they could recreate the Mothercrystal if they wanted to. My theory is that the Zilart are a sect of Ascians/Ancients that tried to enact some sort of plan on the 11th Shard and screwed up and got trapped in constant time loops. Echoes of Vana'diel might be the first case that Vana'diel has broken out of his time loop cycles, especially with the Cloud of Darkness's push back to the 13th. Overall I'm excited to see how Vana'diel faired after I completed Rhapsodies of Vana'diel.
Wasn't it due to the Galkan living by a mountain that interrupted Galkan's souls returning to the source that caused someone to be reincarnated with previous Galkan experiences? Very similar to how the Mol in Azim Steppe. And the purple structure that looks very much like electrope in the crooked coin could very well be the reason for this locally interrupted flow of souls. Also, the symbols on the structure in the crooked coin may be found in Solution 9. Which also has the theme of unnatural flow of souls and memories. And since FFXI seems like it will be introduced via memories of long lost worlds in Yak'tel. I'm really looking forward to delve deeper into how memories work and how they may be affected by potential rejoinings.
I'm guessing the "echoes" in the title is likely somewhat literal. The auracyte in the Yak'Tel meteors is likely what contains the memories of this other world, possibly no longer in existence as the rocks came from somewhere in space.
That is hard to say, since we know the raid of 11 is memories dug up in the forest in Yak Tel. So this might be memories from 11 somehow arriving in the 14 universe. It's highly possible that inter dimensional fusion draw those memories into the source and arrive in Tural and somehow been effected. Since we did saw Prishe in a new form with oversize spiked boxing gloves, so it might be some after effect of been a memory of her and form into a being similar to the twelve? 'm just spit balling here, but it is possible that the shadowlord we know might be also a memory and mutated by some force. My biggest bet is that this Shadowlord;s memory got infected by the Void's Aether and mutated into something more dangerous.
So the TL;DR is that the entirety of the events in XI's early history with the Shadow Lord were caused by an incel Hume. Imagine being so toxically insecure about yourself that you bring about a world-ending scenario just because you're jealous a Galka has more rizz than you.
I mean people like your style it's very lecture based like my own, I promise if you do an hour or even hour an a half long video people will watch it. Attention spans don't start capping out according to YT statistics until about the 3H mark.
I'll see this video , but after plating the raid. I kinda want to be in the group of people who wil discover in fight and learn mor afterward. Well, it was already my state of mind in every raid, but still XD
I don't think they'll do anything too wild. It'll probably be like the Ivalice raids: lore in a jar. I don't think it'll have a huge impact on anything outside the raid.
I think the Shadowlord's presence is a red herring. It's not like the XIV team to show off the big bads so early, especially if you know that they are big bads. I'm sure we'll have to fight him or a version of him, perhaps as the 3rd fight of the raid, but I sincerely doubt the 4th and final.
They say "memories of a world not our own". I'm wondering if that means the 13th (given the similarities to voidsent), another reflection, or another star (I've heard people speculate the meteors in Yak Tel are the source of these otherworldly memories). 13th is probly the most boring answer for a lot of people, but it's the one I'm most interested in. Whatever the case, I'm wondering just how he'll appear and in what way he'll threaten Hydaelyn. Will this be some kind of dream realm, akin to the ancient Giants' dreams of the Golden City? Will we travel to another star or reflection? Or will this end up being some lost/forgotten place that currently exists on Tural? And will he have a similar backstory and "everyone is my enemy" mentality, or will he exist in a brand new context? And, importantly, do we truly defeat him in the first raid and make way for even greater threats from XI, or does he pull a Golbez and survive the fight to continue scheming?
I guess that last part is also made on the supposition that we fight him at all in the first raid, which I'm not sure if that's 100% confirmed. But the throne room screenshot is probably decent indicator.
I wonder if the magicite played a role in making the party of 6 split and turn on eachother. Surely a party of respected heroes would do better in such a context?
I may be the minority but i actually think the holy trinity formula is getting stale and kinda wish we got a FFXI remake so i had a playable different final fantasy mmo. Like i know technically old school FFXI is still in service but i dont wanna deal with play online and would love a remake to give it voice acting so i can get a mental break when i need to for walls of text.
FFXI's first big villians were Leaping Lizzie (for not dropping those boots even though I killed it 20+ times) and that one Paladin that took over an hour to arrive for an EXP party then decided he needed to walk his dog and left (you know who you are)
"I didnt want to make this an hour long video"

I wonder if the magicite played a role in making the party of 6 split and turn on eachother. Surely a party of respected heroes would do better in such a context?
We missed out on an hour long video 😢
Ooooo so close, it's actually pronounced "Bahs-Stook." ;)
That's strange. Didn't they already do a NieR raid series?
I thought the same, but apparently this is a different Shadow Lord, one that doesn't involve evil books or dying daughters/sisters.
More ff11 lore videos pleaseee
I would absolutely watch the video if it were an hour long.
I knew it wasn’t until 14 that the mmos were known for having decent stories, but damn lol
One moment that means odin and eureka will be relevant again?
Hmmmm a magic stone you say? Hmmmmmmmmmmm
This game is older than me what the hell haha! but the lore is interesting, great video Scribe.
Pull on Odin again
I may be the minority but i actually think the holy trinity formula is getting stale and kinda wish we got a FFXI remake so i had a playable different final fantasy mmo. Like i know technically old school FFXI is still in service but i dont wanna deal with play online and would love a remake to give it voice acting so i can get a mental break when i need to for walls of text.
Everthing you need of the shadowlord, simple hes a simp
1 hour video rip. D:
Algorithm
FFXI's first big villians were Leaping Lizzie (for not dropping those boots even though I killed it 20+ times) and that one Paladin that took over an hour to arrive for an EXP party then decided he needed to walk his dog and left (you know who you are)
Lol real Shadow lord only in ff11 shadow lord in ff14 is too weak 😂😂😂😂 😂
