  • After many months away from the RLR at the Alan Keef workshops in Ross on Wye, former diesel Graham Alexander returned to home metals in April after conversion to a battery electric locomotive.
Graham Alexander was chosen for the conversion owing to to the age of its previous Perkins diesel engine and general condition, seeing a significantly higher mileage than any of our other locomotives. This video covers the delivery and initial testing/commissioning of the new battery locomotive with a view to it being in full passenger service after driver familiarisation later this year.

Will the eventual plan be to convert the rest of the I.C.E locos if this one proves to be a success ? What is the configuration of the drive train and does it use the motors for braking similar to its bigger mainline cousin's

The plan for now is to see how Graham performs.
We think it’s fun to have lots of different types of traction!
Bayhurst and John Rennie are just over 20yrs old and have seen relatively low usage so there is still plenty of life left in them!
