People are getting tired of them being at the top of the game for so long. 2020 was genuinely the first year since 2007 a player was undoubtedly better than one of them individually and people can't stand it. It could've gone either way this year especially considering Messi is a essentially a midfielder now so I hope Lewa has way more goals. Don't worry, they'll be gone soon enough but don't discredit their ballon d'ors due to popularity when they were just way better than everyone else for so long.

Messi won by a few points. We’re all just used to him putting up crazy numbers. 20+ goals is an above average season. 30+ goals means you killed it that season,

As I said before, Messi to me deserves it more. He fought like on D Day with that Barca squad playing midfield attack and God knows that more. I think Ballondor should go to Bayern as a team, I really feel like theyre all equals there.
When Lewandowski wasn’t fit , Bayern was knocked out of the UCL last year. If he plays, they beat PSG. Plain and simple. Last years Barca squad was one of the worst teams I have ever seen. Why do all the FC guys (mostly Stevie and Craig) seem desperate for Messi and Ronaldo to go down and decline? It seems as though they are extremely jealous that these two have been up at the top for so long and they will continue to be for the next couple of years. We will not appreciate these two until they finally hang up their boots, and we will never live to see another two players as special and as consistent as them. Also, Messi winning the Ballon D'Or in one of his not-so-good seasons, over Lewandowski who is basically in his prime now shows the level of how good Messi actually is. He is on a different planet.

Messi and Ronaldo have gone into decline. It's clear they have. There's nothing wrong with that, they're both getting older, but it's weird how people still keep trying to insist they're the best players in the world. For both of them for the last 3 years it has felt like their teams only play with 10 men 90% of their games. You can't be the best in the world when that's the case.
And then Lewandowski really came and showed them up. This year Lewandowski won Bundesliga and German cup. Messi won Copa America and Copa Del Rey. Lewandowski had 14 more goals than Messi until ballon do’r closing date. Messi had double the assists and MOTM awards for a reason. His game and impact on the game is way beyond goals only.

Disappointed at the panels reaction. The way they have been discussing the Ballon D'or topic is pathetic. Here's something we should keep in mind yes we all know Lewandowski has been the best player for the last 12 months. It's always been a popularity contest. If you ask a 30-35 year old about their football idol, most would say Brazilian Ronaldo, Zidane etc. Very few would say Batistuta or Shearer or Laudrup. Reason - the first two had ballon do'r & obviously played in bigger teams either at club or country level

Therefore, it's crazy how people are saying he was robbed because of what he did in a league Bayern dominate. Meanwhile, Messi with Argentina won a major international competition on Brazil soil, while he was the player of the tournament, top scorer and highest assister. He also finished top scorer in La Liga, won the Copa del rey, and has 58 goal contributions this year; so it's not like he's shone only for Argentina. People who say he didn't deserve it are either fed up of him winning- or are giving sympathy to Lewadndowski for not being awarded it in 2020.

The most sensible criteria for winning ballon d'or should be the number of "man of the match" awards through out the season. That actually tells how much of football you have played in the season. All other criteria are just unfair to a point.
He deserved it this year. But Liwandowski deserved it last year. There was no reason to cancel it. The least they should do is give him the Ballon d'Or which he would have won in 2020.

I don't see why people think it's so unfair that Lewandowski didn't win. Yes, Lewandowski has scored many more goals than anyone else, but we're talking about the Ballon D'or, not the Golden Shoe. It's for the *best individual player*, not the top goalscorer.
Obviously the "best player" is very subjective. It depends on so many more factors than just goalscoring. That is why it gets put to a vote. And like it or not, Messi got the most votes and so he deserves to win. People must have seen something in him that they didn't see in Lewandowski. Perhaps it was the fact that he won an international title, or the fact that he has been a creative midfielder on top of scoring so many goals, or the fact that he carried Barcelona almost entirely on his own shoulders, evidenced by how much they crumbled after his departure and will now be lucky to even make the Europa League.
But at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter. Football is a team sport, and team trophies are what every player should be aiming for. Who really cares who wins the Ballon D'or.

That’s 3 clubs with plenty of rival fans that would love to see him fail. City, Liverpool, Barca, and Atleti are just a few examples of clubs with fans that hate him. Messi for example has played at Barca his whole career, so naturally the only “haters” he’s attracted are from Real Madrid. Their social media presence also plays a massive role in this. Ronaldo is very active and very vocal on social media, which also naturally comes with hate. I read a couple articles that compared, on average, which footballers receive the most hate comments and Ronaldo finished 2nd just behind Neymar.

If it's about goals and other things, Lewandowski has the most goals. Also we have to mention that he broke some records as well. So each of them has something. Now we have to see which feature has more points or is more valued compared to the others for example does Copa Del Ray has more points or Euro or they both have the same points. I think by doing this we can find out which player deserves the Ballon. Although other factors may be in play as well
