I have a nasty habit of talking to people the same way to talk to me. It seems that's what they understand so I go with it. The few times it's gotten heated has almost always been a Woman. Seems a lot of them think they can talk anyway they want with someone. It's funny because I would have battles with 2 of them (not the same place) from time to time. Neither of them took it personally and we would laugh about it later. We actually ended up with a good working relationship.

Janitor for 6 years here. This lady makes me hurt on the inside for this man. There has always been times when I had to come in at 4:00 AM to let the fire department in, the plumber in, etc. It has always been a thing to leave early if you got their early. Janitor life is always like this. If you get your shit done. That's all the matters. If the building can run smooth that is all that matters. Especially when its so smooth no one knows you did extra stuff. It motivates you to get the job done. WE need that motivation. You clean bathrooms all day. It is so damn easy to have self defeating thoughts. A lot of janitors are so happy and encouraging, its because we have to be that way to survive. This lady has no idea what empathy is. Best of luck to this man. I hope the best for him in the future.

    So the breakdown
    His hours are 6:30 - 3:00
Comes into work at 6:15 after noticing the fire department waiting (15 minutes early)
At 2:45, some incident occurs where he's isn't able to be reached by radio. (15 minutes early)
Janitor claims to have left at 2:52 (8 minutes early)
He clearly cares about his job, comes early to sit in the lot ensure he's not late. Everyone is saying, he is being treated like a student but that isn't even fit for students. It may only be middle school, but faculty should communicate to students as adults and treat them with the same respect you expect from them.

I worked as a teacher for 6 years. This is EXACTLY how administration treats everyone. If he had not let the fire department in, she would have been yelling at him for not letting them in when they where there. Everything that guy did was reasonable and logical. They are asserting authority over him instead of thanking him for being helpful with a situation. I can’t tell you how many times this happens on a daily, weekly, yearly basis just to throw teachers and staff under the bus so administration looks half decent. But I can say, I'm not taken seriously. When ever I present an issue to admin, it's always looked over their shoulders, but say one of the adults have an issue, they're ready to work on the issue, or at least ACT like they want to. There're members at our school who know how to stand their ground and whenever they have a problem they're not afraid to let them know, but even then, like you said, they and even the district try so hard to treat as if you're the students at times. They want to talk and treat me as if I'm in high school all over again. I left high school four years ago.😂 I don't like this. This is trauma😂😂😂😂. I ain't arguing with no principal or district again. I've lived in that before but refuse to go back.😂😂😂 But I'm making this my last year, because as a Gen Z, we struggle at making forever jobs, and it's getting boring. Same old same old.

She literally never harassed him. He denied EVERYTHING.
HE BROKE THE RULES. PERIOD. THAT'S IT!
He would have already been fired by 99% of other real life bosses, ESPECIALLY MY STRICT CHINESE BOSS, but susanne was being way too kind on him.
That employee is what you call INSUBORDINATION. Look that up if you don't know what that means.
No boss, AND I REPEAT, NO BOSS IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WILL LIKE NOR TOLERATE INSUBORDINATION!
SOMETIMES, YOU HAVE TO BE A LITTLE BIT ARROGANT AND ASSERT YOUR AUTHORITY AS THE BOSS, IN ORDER TO PUT EMPLOYEES IN THEIR PLACE! SHE IS THE BOSS! SHE RUNS THE STORE, NOT HIM! SHE HAS EVERY RIGHTEOUS AND DESSERVING RIGHT TO DECIDE WHAT IS OR IS NOT ALLOWED IN THE STORE!
You keep accusing her of gaslighting, but you will literally never understand what it's like to be a boss until you become one yourself.
I LITERALLY 100% GAURANTEE YOU, YOU WOULD NOT BE HAPPY EITHER IF YOU TOLD EMPLOYEE NOT TO DO SOMETHING, AND THEY STILL DID IT ANYWAY, AS WELL AS TALKED BACK TO YOU INSTEAD OF TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR ACTIONS!
YOU WOULD BE MAD TOO IF AN EMPLOYEE ABANDONED THEIR SHIFT OR LEFT THEIR SHIFT EARLY WITHOUT AN EXTREMELY VALID REASON, SUCH AS LIFE AND DEATH EMERGENCY. HE AGREED TO THOSE SHIFT HOURS, SO CONTRACTUALLY HE MUST COMMIT TO EVERY SINGLE SECOND OF THOSE HOURS!
Susanne did absolutely nothing wrong. He kept backtalking, that's literally the only reason why she had to repeat herself "who is the boss?" because apparently he did not take her seriously as a boss. That's not gaslighting. That's literally just putting an employee in their place and asserting your own high authority as a STORE MANAGER. Not just a moderate shift manager, BUT AN ENTIRE STORE MANAGER!

  • @daftrhetoric
    @daftrhetoric 7 років тому +302

How could anyone allow themselves to become the sort of person who behaves like that?
The obvious real story here is that Ms. Offerman habitually keeps her employees after their shifts end. She needed something done the day before this video and tried to find Jonathan, but was inconvenienced and had to perform a task herself because he'd left. It sounds like she wanted work done immediately before 3, work which no doubt would have kept him from leaving until after his shift ended.
You can tell she identifies with her job because she's allowed herself to forget decency in favor of a misplaced sense of duty. This kind of mentality stops her seeing Jonathan as a human and instead seeing only a worker charged with an obligation to a management structure. This mindset is wildly inappropriate for school administration.

    • @daftrhetoric
      @daftrhetoric 7 років тому +70

Also there's another subtext here. Jonathan was very aware of the precise time he left the day before. This speaks not only to conscious decision-making, but also probably to his actually doing something extra that kept him there longer than the fifteen minutes he had lost that morning. He wouldn't answer the question and instead told a huge story that is irrelevant and refused to acknowledge any responsibility for not being there when he was needed. I agree he had good intentions. But from the what he said, this isn't the first time he's caused trouble in the workplace. I guarantee you if he just answered her questions and didn't try to make excuses, this would have been a very different conversation.
It's adulthood 101, if you mess up, even if you had a really good reason for it, just swallow your pride and own up to it. He constantly changed his story, then tried to snitch on his coworkers, and finally he played the victim card.
People can't acknowledge he was in the wrong for leaving HALF AN HOUR early because he clocked in HALF AN HOUR early when he wasn't supposed to, and not being there when he was really needed.

If I was her supervisor I would have had to fire her after watching this video. I spent my whole working career as a manager and an administrator over hundreds of managers and employees. She was using 'old school' tactics on a valued employee. You give them guidance and advice, but what you don't do is disrespect them by asking a question and then talk over them when they are trying to respond. He was trying to help the school by being assertive and letting the fire department in early. Early in...early out. He showed restraint and after she verbally abused him he became frustrated with her berating tactics. So she fires him over 5 minutes, but then she has to have human resources spent the time, effort, and money to hire someone to replace him. No surprise she was fired in the end...good riddance.

In your honest opinion was the employee at no fault? If one of my employees had to open the door 15 minutes early. I would expect him to tell me or give me a heads up. Then comes the subordinate responsibility of asking "because I opened 15 minutes early is it OK if I leave 15 minutes early?" I would have approved it. At the same time a employee shouldn't be able to just come and go as they want. Because if they were then it would defeat the purpose of having a schedule for them. Now I ask you what is your take?

Creole3712, this woman knows EXACTLY WHY she is doing what she's doing.
I EVEN suppose she refers even the MOST affluent, descent whites as rednecks. I say this because this video shows what a horrible human being she REALLY IS. 😡

I've always wondered how people like this get into the position of managing others, repeating herself like a parrot and being extremely condescending towards the hardworking janitor as if he's a child. Extremely disappointed with the school and the HR departments decision to let him go. Managers like that are what kills everyone's spirit and leads to less effort to make a school great.

*treating him like a child* because HE IS ACTING LIKE A CHILD. TALKING BACK TO THE BOSS AND DISOBEYING A DIRECT ORDER!
SHE NEVER WOULD HAVE TO SAY THAT, IF HE JUST MANNED UP AND TOOK RESPONSIBILITY FOR HIS FUCKING ACTIONS, INSTEAD OF TALKING BACK AND DENYING! SHE WAS RIGHT TO DO THAT! HE HAD TO BE PUT IN HIS FUCKING PLACE!
SHE IS THE FUCKING BOSS! SHE HAS THE RIGHT TO DECIDE WHAT IS ALLOWED OR WHAT IS NOT ALLOWED! IF HE CANNOT FUCKING FOLLOW THE EXACT INSTRUCTIONS THEN HE DESERVES TO BE PUT IN HIS PLACE!
SHE IS NOT A MONSTER, THERE WAS LITERALLY NO FUCKING *HARASSMENT*, JUST ASSERTING HER POSITION AS THE BOSS OF THE STORE!
I SWEAR TO GOD, THIS RACE OF SPOILED BRAT SENSITIVE RACE OF AMERICAN KARENS WILL START CRYING WHEN THE BOSS STARTS ACTUALLY BEING A BOSS AND YELLS AT YOU FOR FUCKING UP AND BACKTALKING.
HE WOULD NEVER SURVIVE IN ASIA! NOT FOR A SINGLE FUCKING MOMENT!
ASK LITERALLY ANY NATIVE ASIAN THAT HAS COME FROM ASIA, 100% OF THEM WILL AGREE THAT SUSANNE DID NOTHING WRONG AND NEVER HARASSED HIM! HE IS THE ONE WHO FUCKED UP AND NEEDS TO REALIZE THAT!
