Celts seem to have always been really good with music. I remember that one of the earliest recorded examples I know of Celtic music comes from Herodotus, the Greek historian. Absolutely amazing and inspiring. How I wish I was a time traveller. Love the prehistoric periods of history and these instruments bring so much colour to the lives that lived then and transmit them into today.
Fascinating. I like how the horn is played in a similar fashion to the didjeridu, I think I saw another video about a Sythian Horn that was made out of wood and had its mouthpiece on the side and its sound reminded me of the didjeridu.
The bekan horn sounds amazing! I can just picture that echoing through the hills and across the fields of battle. It must've been terrifying to any foe who heard it.
interesting.. these instruments are very rare today.. in the west african sahel there are ancient long bronze/iron trumpets/horns still used by the hausa, fula and kanuri people called "kakaki" for ceremonial music, not to mention the ancient horns in the himalayas... these groups also primarily use the pentatonic scale, and have defining ensembles of flutes and fiddles.. by that similarity, it seems the roots of irish music are very old indeed.

to the man who plays these horns, have you tried blowing from the corner of your mouth sideways into the mouthpiece? If you get just the right pressure from your diaphragm, you hit the note then its octave then the note again they viberate as they alternate, its awesome like a rasping growl
