Instruments in order of appearance: -Duduk -hurdy-gurdy -shawm -another shawm probably a bass -tenor shawm ? (i guess they just have the whole consort by now) -rackett -crumhorns -Nyckelharpa (accompagned by the harp) -portative organ + recorder
Thank you so much for this! There is this adventure game called dungeons&dragons, and one of the 'gods' plays a shawm. One of my players has chosen this 'god' to follow in game, and now i can let him hear this! IIt is my part/role in the game to tell the story he will encounter and music is a verry good way to translate .Much thanks to you for putting this on the youtube!!
Ha, I'm running a Sorcerer who through Shenanigans has acquired both Prestidigitation and Thaumaturgy, so he can have 3 sustained instrument sounds and 3 "clips" of about a couple measures (6 seconds, or one action) running at once. I'mma put on a ghostly orchestra!
Thank you all for this wonderful lesson on ancient instruments. God bless you for showing others your knowledge. Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
thank you to the talented folks who put forth this video! I love medieval instruments, especially the hurdy gurdy (which I discovered the name of about five minutes ago)
They should introduce each instrument before playing them. We don't know what they are! The sounds are haunting because they suggest what will come later, the way the instruments were refined. These sounds have not disappeared, because when you hear them you think: that's kind of like an oboe (or a violin or a pipe organ).
Hi I based in the uk , can you please tell me name these two play under, I did have their website but seem to have forgotten the links to how I found them
It's a Moraharpa, simpler version of the modern Nyckelharpa. It is supposed to be played in a horizontal fashion (like a regular nyckelharpa) unlike in this video so gravity can pull back the keys.
Probably the combo of slightly kazoo like sounds for the wind instruments and a minor key for some of the music. As cool as I think the instruments are I can see what you're saying, it has a bit of a "game over" or "losing sound effect" feel at times.
its weird how almost all of these instruments have asian counterparts that very much resemble these instruments.. For example the Guan en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guan_(instrument) really makes me wonder where the reed mouthpiece originated

@@ButsJeroen "i guess they just have the whole consort by now" accurate, hahaa!
Thank you frustrating that they didn’t name them so we would learn what they were.
they must throw the best house parties lol
Any party is great when there's a hurdy-gurdy involved
I can't remember any house parties... But I've been told I was definitely there... :)
I'd honestly have a blast going to a party with a bunch of different instruments.
Only royalty allowed.

The neighbours must love these guys!
"Are there any weird things you can do with this instrument?" I'm sure there are plenty!
It is a Nykal harper.
I wish I had all of these. I love the way the nyckelharpa, especially, sounds and plays. What is the instrument played at 3:22?
It's a bass rauschpfeife
Who is the maker of the soprano shawm? I'm trying to find one, but I haven't been that successful.
I like the noises he makes on the rackett
Is she playing a "hurdy-gurdy"?
Yes
There was no curtal played.
Anybody recognizes the melody from 05:07?
So cool!
Hi I based in the uk , can you please tell me name these two play under, I did have their website but seem to have forgotten the links to how I found them
What instruments did you play at 3:05?

Whats the instrument at 3:35
they missed off the whoopie cushion!!!
Very good!!!
I've never seen a bowed and keyed instrument before. It almost looks like a crankless hurdy-gurdy... What's it called? I'm intrigued.
very nice
Are there any albums I can find that sound like this?
What's the weird farty one at 2:30?
in the back there is that a Cristofori piano?
The duduk sounded really dry , the others were perfect
what are all the instruments called?
At 3:34, what is that song?
Why aren't all my neighbors like this? I had a bagpipe band family as neighbors as a kid. Now, people give me weird looks over an accordion.
There’s nothing weird about accordions. I used to flat with a brilliant accordion player. They are so versatile
Should rename this "The Making of the Witcher 3 Soundtrack"
Is the duduk a single-reed instrument, or a double-reed instrument? Thank you.
Double reed I believe
I want to meet that man
what song is being played on the nyckelharpa?
James Mowry it's a tune from finland called Emma or Emmas waltz
Tapestry of Music
What is the instrument at 3:40?
It's a Nyckelharpa, a Swedish instrument related to the hurdy-gurdy
It's a Moraharpa, simpler version of the modern Nyckelharpa. It is supposed to be played in a horizontal fashion (like a regular nyckelharpa) unlike in this video so gravity can pull back the keys.
I wish you had told the names before you played them
Awesome playing! The duduk is not medieval though, its ANCIENT! :)
They had 808s in the middle ages lmao? 2:38
