@Arkan 10001 The F-35 is more based on the Royal Harrier Jump Jet, although it is similar to the Yak-141, it is way more advanced. Even at the time the yak-141 was introduced we still had way better aircraft like the SR-71 Blackbird, F-15E, F-14 Tomcat, F-16, and so on. Soviet Union was still stuck on old MiGs and Sukhoi years later! Russia is barely starting to create a 5th generation VTOL jet just to compete with the F-35 called the Su-75 20 years later! By the time that is in production USA will have spaceships!

In 1979 when I was stationed at Osan Air Base in South Korea, we had an SR71 land at the base to take care of some maintenance issue. When the aircraft departed, the pilot circled back around low over the runway, kicked in the afterburners and shot straight up until he was out of sight. Now that was an awesome sight! I think he did it just to show off.

I had a similar thing happen. 1981 Holloman AFB. I was a crew chief there and an SR emergency landed for a generator. Shortly after, a couple of crew chiefs from Beale AFB flew in with a replacement part. She visited us for a little less than three hours and when she left it was like nothing I've ever seen at any airshow. A lot more agile than I expected and the climb out was shocking.

I guess I missed the footage of the F-22 even taking off, only saw it flying and landing. Also the F-22 can't VTOL, or even STOL. Only conventional landing and take off. Yes it can pitch up and blast off vertical AFTER take off but it is still on the ground rolling way longer than any STOL craft, and VTOL craft don't have to roll anywhere. This video should be 30 seconds long showing a jet take off not an info video about several different aerial craft.

Last year at an Aviation Conference Elon Musk told a large group of Military aviators that the F-35 would be displaced by Drones. Of course this caused some squealing in the audience. In a subsequent interview, the Secretary of the Navy said, the F-35 is likely the last manned pilot fighter the Navy will ever buy. The demand for military Drone Pilots is now increasing even though it’s economically more expensive than piloted aircraft-- Just as EV’s will surely end the era of gasoline engines... piloted aircraft be a thing of the past in this century.

In fact the US SOCOM want use it for special operations due this versatility, low cost, low and easy maintenance and operates in any place/weather, and its very versatile could be louded with AIM9, Mavericks AGM5, 20 mm cannon, mini gun, etc.... 130 of different weaponry. I served in the army in the 80s in West Germany and had to listen to the French say the Mirage was the best, the Swedes tell me the Viggen was the the best and various others tell me that some other aircraft was the best! Fact is, the Eagle was the best for decades and I dare say the Raptor is the best at the moment!

Far more expensive than a helicopter. Even far cheaper, but rather for cowards would be a drone, those air vehicles are said to beat every jet. So your honor wouldn't set the flag on Gonggong, because it's almost named like Hong Kong?

There is speculation that the seat and possibly the cockpit, is gimballed, to soften high G evenys. I dont know how feasible that is, but its conceptually really straightforward; seat turns in opposite direction of the g load, at a rate of a couple degrees per second. It wouldn't negate the forces, but delay or soften them, so the pilot doesn't suddenly have a load of bricks dropped on them.
