@@stefan33uk The part about multiplayer being added in last-second is true, yes. The part about "Nintendo canceled it and stopped paying", I've never heard anyone claim that before. Makes no sense either, why would Nintendo cancel it when it was so close to completion?

***** Video game scoring was an important thing back then. Goldeneye and Perfect Dark were scored by the same guy and that point you stated rings true for both games. Such defining amazing tracks for each level. Legend of Zelda was another one, by the great Koji Kondo. That was absolutely award worthy stuff.
Part of me understands the power of nostalgia but another part recognizes that there is something truly unique about the artistic direction of the video games from that time. N64 was and remains one of the greatest gaming consoles ever created. A true game changer (no pun intended).

When you're limited in the number of sound channels you can use (no longer an issue in modern games), composition is VITAL to make a tune sound good, memorable and not grating on the ears. Back in then day, Rare had an all-star stable of composers: David Wise, Robin Beanland, Evelyn Fisher, Graeme Norgate, Grant Kirkhope... all of whom had their own styles but had one thing in common: great composition skills.

The cradle was frustrating as fuck though. I died 100 times before I even figured out how to even get up the ramp at the start of the level. Without getting filled with bullet holes lol.
You had to be pretty much perfect to beat aztec. Especially on 007 mode. They are perfect shots and can kill you with two or 3 shots. hard as hell to even get by them without them noticing. As soon as one person sees you the whole dam level comes after you!! Then jaws comes after you as well with the two AK47's blasting!!! They chase you all around the level too, like they have a tracking device on you or something.

A truly brilliant soundtrack. It so perfectly encapsulates a time in video games and pop culture, while also carving out a distinct sound that anyone who grew up playing games in the 90's would be able to identify immediately. The composers take classic themes from the Bond franchise and put their own unique spin on them, pushing the limitations that they were presented with from a software standpoint to create something that fits so perfectly into the 007 aesthetic.

Runway is my favourite track, I used to spend hours on that level having turned AI accuracy to 0% smooshing 1000’s of dudes under the tank, until my mom got worried about me. It’s all good though I joined the army and got to do it IRL so I guess it’s a happy ending

I never realized how hard Severnaya Installation grinds when I was a little kid playing it on my parents’ 90s tv. Listening to it on bassy headphones is entirely different. It’s corny to say but it’s before its time. I actually came here to hear Satellite Control Bunker and ended up listening to Severnaya twice lol. This soundtrack only gets better with time and age.

Surface 2 is my favorite. Such an unbelievably haunting and cold track. I was 7 when this game came out (20+ years ago). It was eerie to me then and continues to be. I used to imagine that the noises and spooky moans were coming from the masked men hiding around the pines in that dark suberian wilderness. Brings me back, too good.

The slap bass and the overall agitation of the song (plus the very fast paced level) is what makes Silo my favorite. I would play this level over and over just to hear the music.

I know everyone loves Facility, but after beating it a bunch - I loved running Silo and Frigate the most. I got to the point where I was speedrunning Frigate with paintball (DK mode sometimes for the laughs) on 00 Agent by the time I was 6 years old, machinegunning the hell out of everybody. Great times.
