  • In this video I demonstrate how I transfer in and out of bed without shoes for night time and in the morning. You will notice that my spasticity, tone and wheelchair all help with my ability to maneuver in the bed.
    If you have any specific questions that I may not have addressed in the video please leave a comment below or email me at info@abilitease.com. Thank you for watching!

    Great demonstration! ...it took lots of practice, I know. I got accustomed to lunging my upper body forward to take some drag off my butt and my how necessary is a slightly wet palm(s). Off and back on to a ROHO; expert status! Enjoyed!

    I use a lot of the same techniques. Nice video!

    Excellent techniques! But can you show us your first transfer in the morning and how you control your spasms?

      Thank you Valeria. I can honestly say that the transfers in this video are very similar to my first morning transfers. I typically stretch a bit in bed before my first transfer to relax some of the tone and spasticity.

      I'm glad. Every injury is different, which means every transfer can be different. The best advice I can give is to listen to your body and have it work with you, not against you. Take care!

    Love the technique. Works well. You’re the reason I got twion wheels, so I really appreciate your insight. I was wondering what size backrest you have? Is it an ADI

      I'm glad you got the Twion wheels and hopefully they are working well for you. My backrest is the Roho Agility Carbon Mid Contour backrest.

    Thank you so much! What kind of mattress do you have that appears relatively firm for transfers, but obviously must be plush enough to avoid pressure sores?

      That's what I'd like to know, the kind of mattress he uses. My husband is an incomplete quad and is ready to transition from the hospital bed in the living room back to our room and bed. The spinal cord team just suggests a low loss air mattress. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    How long did it take you to pop over instead of using the board for transfers?

    • @abilitease
      @abilitease  3 роки тому

      Hi Daniel. I would say after a year post injury I started doing transfers without the board. You need to build up strength and really understand your body. I have a lot of spasticity in my legs which I use to help me pivot during transfers. There are so many factors and it's different for everyone. It's best to take your time and experiment with different methods. Try different gloves, chair angle, hand positioning, feet positioning, etc. Best of luck!

      @@abilitease thank you man I really think that I’m strong enough to do it it’s just a matter of technique. I can’t seem to get it right. It’s hard for me to lift my body. And I have partial triceps, I can’t seem to get rid of the board. Do you have any tips?

    • @abilitease

      @@DanielRodriguez-bb5gk First of you have to be patient with the process. Continue with strength training and try to pinpoint certain aspects of the transfer that you would like to improve. This is where you need to really need to spend time understanding your body. Find out how to make it work with you and not against you. During the transfer try turning your palms out and locking your elbow, at least for the arm on your chair as an anchor. Also, what are your legs doing during the transfer? Are your knees together? I find having my knees together during a transfer is extremely helpful in creating support in the lower extremities. A simple strap could accommodate this. Keep working and you'll figure it out!

    Why does it look like you licked your palms at like 1:10?
