Welcome back sir. I love all the knowledge you drop.
I don't know how you take care of urination, but I have a super-pubic catheter and I used to always feel like I was full and had to empty my bowels until I started drinking over 3 liters of water a day. Since then, I've had very little, to no, problems by keeping my bladder topped off. Water is the key for us quads.

F.B. thanks for the love! It has been a bit crazy for me the past six months. I intermittent cath every 3-4 hours, but I agree having lots of water seems to help everything. I tend to be bad about drinking a lot of water if I'm out and about because I dislike having to catheterize in public restrooms. But if I'm home I love to drink water and it seems to help out tremendously. Thanks for sharing!

I do my bowel program every day at night. I use suppositories as well and it takes almost one hour. I’ve heard of people only doing bowel programs a couple of times a week, which I don’t think is good. I’d like to switch to every other day, but I don’t know how to go about doing that and I don’t know if it’s as good for your body.

Switching to every other day would give you more flexibility, but everyone is different and if what you are doing now works then I would stick with it. Thanks for sharing Mason.

abilitease I agree. Do you take any laxatives? I take Senna every morning and night, but I’m thinking about switching to Magnesium.

I have Magnesium, which I hear works great, but I haven't taken it much because the MetaMucil fiber supplement works great.

Your insurance should pick up your devices. I used to use THE SILVER BULLET. Try snipping them in half. They still work and fewer mucus accidents. Plus more cost-effective.

Thank you for the tips! Do you have any tips on how to combat gas? I had stomach surgery over a year ago for a perforation... And was left with a lot of scar tissue. I get a lot of bowel and gas pain as a result. If you have any tips that would be amazing. Thank you so much for this channel!

Thank you for your comments. Honestly I tend to rely on Gas-X and Pepto Bismol. I deal with extreme gas as well and a lot of it is a direct result of taking too much of the fiber supplements. My only thoughts would be to avoid gassy foods and also to drink tea. Tea has helped a lot and I never understood why. And supposedly peppermint tea in particular works great. Best of luck!

Try BEENO or GAS X for gas before BP. Helps get out mucusy stuff.

I've never tried Beeno, but I will give it a try. Thanks!

Have you considered Enemeez to replace the suppository? I get instant results with them and no mucous afterburner later.

I may try that. I think my hesitation is how to insert it safely and avoiding the mess, but I have heard similar success stories from others. Thank you for sharing!

abilitease I have heard the same but have not tried them.

abilitease I can aim them and get them inserted but do need help squeezing them in. There is a work around some use by getting the contents into a 10cc syringe, cutting the end of the enemeez tube open and sticking the syringe into the tube so that the package end works as intended. Then you push the plunger on the syringe to insert the contents. It works for some.

Interesting collection of ideas, y'all. Here's how/ what I think we all remember and remains a 'healthy' looking left-behind; the formed turds. To see this after many years on occasion, well, it gives peace of mind. So long in a medical bed wo side-rails; the commode-chair parked on the right feet-end, facing me, it worked for twenty-five years. I turned myself at night, a part of it but I rolled my manual miles daily and swam laps a lot and lifted 8lbs X 2 weights in the chair and in bed. To lean forward on a pillow and lift w arms down lifted as high as able works the scapula muscles and strains/ presses my abdomen. Now I'm 63 and my wife and I have slept together since cracking my Back in '03. Pain Mngmnt said no surgery, no PT and their pain control meds were more psychadelic as prescribed pain meds aren't...they do constipate. Regardless, Bowels didn't keep me from working full-time because I was told in 1980 regularity wake-up/ bed-time, light breakfast (boiled egg/ O.Juice) light lunch (half a turkey sandwich, apple, Coke) and a one portion plate of the good things (peas, broccolli, fruits and chicken/ fish, salad, carrots, etc.) would train the bowels for a night-time expectancy at least every night; every other night about as long as I can handle. The suppositories, a shriveled-up colon was/ is the long-term effect, I've read thirty years back. Miralax 2-3 nights a week, regularity, exercise, and rolling on the stomach 3-4 nights a week have worked for me. We know we're all different by the very nature of SCI's - snowflakes - no two alike. It's a tough business, the ideas shared to help one another to carry-on as normally as possible is a great thing. I've got one option, my home throne, but, it's been remarkably dependable. Too much fiber, too many un-formed Cow-piles, I don't think that's healthy nor easy to keep-in until ready to bombs-away...lifting weights or just holding them out in front stimulates the bowels for me sometimes as does bouncing as best able. Though, it's not a 100% concise arrangement, the things shared, I wish everyone their independence! A little jealous, Marc (abilitease)! lol

When and how often do you take Metamucil?

    • @abilitease
      @abilitease  4 роки тому +1

I typically take 1-1 1/2 teaspoons at 6-7pm every other day. It usually takes about 12 hours for me to work so I get results when I wake up. I would start with one teaspoon and see how your body reacts. There are times when I may take too much and the gas is overwhelming and could lead to an unpleasant accident. Its a trial and error process, but it has been an effective tool for me. And of course make sure to drink plenty of water too because liquid keeps things moving and prevents constipation. Best of luck!
