I have a 2010 Rav4 2.5L without a power steering pump, but I was able to use same method putting the belt on. The only issue is that I ran into is the belt tensioner is very tight and was difficult putting new belt on. I had to get someone to help pull tensioner while I struggled getting the belt on pulleys. I even bought 3 belts thinking it was a short new belt. I found out you must put the belt onto crank pulley on the edge and when tensioner is pulled work the belt on the compressor pulley and then take a wrench and turn the crank to push belt on completely. It took me 2 days working on this belt. Now I have a new belt and tensioner installed. Thanks for the video it helps.

Great video with the best method to replace it. I've seen other videos where they take the motor mounts out but this method is the best. I've replaced the belt by just turning the wheel before but it I had no patience this past weekend and I just ended up taking the wheel off. I still move the tensioner through the top. Much easier for me. I would rate this as a very simple job as long as you start everything by hand and know how to not cross thread.

This one must be for a four-cylinder Rav-4 b/c the tensioner looks nothing like the one on my six-cylinder. Might want to specify the model you are demonstrating in the future. Friendly suggestion--I'm a fan of your videos.

Hey guys I just did this job and let me tell you that its IMPOSSIBLE to put the serpentine belt back on from the top. You have to go from underneath the vehicle to do this inorder to finish replacing the alternator or serpentine belt. ALL YOU NEED IS A 14MM COMBONATION WRENCH THAT RATCHETS!! PLACE THE WRENCH ON THE TENSIONER PULLEY'S CENTER BOLT FROM THE BOTTOM, KEEP TURNING THE TENSIONER PULLY UNTIL YOU CAN PLACE THE WRENCH ON TOP OF THE BOTTOM LEFT WHEEL.
Step 1: Reinstall new alternator
Step 2: Using a 14mm combination wrench (with ratcheting function), put closed end of wrench on the center bolt of tensioner pully (not the top one closest to coolant reservoir)
Step 3: Going in a clockwise direction, turn tensioner pully to give you slack all the way. keep going until your behind the bottom left wheel and place the wrench on top of the wheel so you no longer have to hold it. (Trust me you will see what im talking about)
Step 4: Fit the serpentine belt around all wheels except the bottom right wheel.
Step 5: Put a socket wrench on the BOTTOM LEFT WHEEL NUT
Step 6: Turn bottom left wheel and feed the belt onto the bottom right wheel until it snaps itself on. (like putting on a bike chain) THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART!

I just snagged a Gates tensioner kit(included belt) for $150.00
@@markm.9968 Wow $550 is INSANE! Are these doctors working on cars. Unreal. That is honestly complete robbery. This looks like a 30min 60min tops labor job. So are these dealerships charging $450/hr Labor .. That price is mind blowing.

Thank you for the video. What is the adapter you fit to your wrench to push the tensioner back? I know you cannot use any wrench because thd size dont fit.

Local dealership just quoted my buddy $550 for parts & labor.
My 2002 rav4 bolt hits the chassis and appears there is no way to remove the tensioner without removing the engine itself.....
Removing motor mounts is the way.
