- Dolton, Illinois is getting ruined more and more every second that Tiffany Henyard continues to serve as the mayor. The residents have been trying to get her out of office for 2 years. The village trustees have tried everything that they can to hold Henyard accountable but over the months she has continued to dig Dolton into as much as $5 million in debt.

Exactly, It could be said the mayor is subpar? It could also be said the whole lot of them (trustees included) are subpar.
To be an outsider & understand what is ailing them. I think it comes down to the inability to conduct a functional meeting. A typical village uses Robert's rules of order. This is not being adhered to in the Village of Dolton (just sit down & watch a recent meeting) By design the trustees are not powerless to keep the village on the straight & narrow. On the other side of the coin, The mayor is not powerless to keep the trustees on the straight & narrow. The history of chaotic meetings is what is causing the downward spiral of dysfunction.
The village meetings have an established "chair person". The current chair person I believe is the mayor (correct me if I'm wrong). The mayor who is the acting "chair person" can lose the ability to act as chair by a 2/3's vote. If the mayor refuses to attend a meeting, the trustees should elect a new "chair person" among themselves, once the new chair person is elected they can proceed. The mayor is not powerless at that point but has lost the power of the chair. Once losing the power of the chair, next comes the power of the purse. The mayor having lost the chair could by vote of the trustees take the power of the purse. The mayor doesn't go away in this scenario. The mayor is elected by the citizen voters & (short of a recall election) remains until the mayor's term is over. The by-laws established when the village was incorporated will detail the various checks & balances & include remedies for many of the short comings that may arise.
These elected & appointed public officials need only to act as full grown adults & the Village of Dolton will go on to strive and prosper.
Should these public officials continue to act like children, they will be doing it at their own peril & shame on them if they do.

Back in the day, like the late 80's, and early 90's, from what I seen as a kid and a teenager, if you was black, you definitely had a 2 parent working household to live there!!! Hen-Yard is destroying decades of hard work for these poor people. I lived there for 2 years. She wasn't mayor, but she definitely drove it down. She needs to be put in jail!!!

They elected a car thief with no experience to lead their city and are now celebrating that the trustees hired Lori Lightfoot to investigate her for $400/hour. The only people who deserve any sympathy are the minority that didn't vote for her and have no way of escaping that hellhole because their home has lost 90% of it's value and no one is willing to buy it

Too be fair, Dolton has been f--ked up since Mayor Shaw took office! I grew up there, my family lived there since the 1920's! The White citizens were not racist, they voted to integrate the High School in 1970? So I do not want to listen to any BS or finger pointing! Once the demographics of the village shifted to 25% Black we got Shaw as Mayor. And he completely undid City Hall practices, that were perfectly productive and in budget for over 100 years! It's not just the current knucklehead Mayor, it's the knucklehead vote by color not by qualified Black citizens!

But to be honest it was great, because half of the basketball team was from Phoenix,il. Talking Quinn Buckner man, Thornridge won Illinois State High School Championships back to back! In fact that team is among the top 10 greatest High School Basketball teams in America.

Narrator doesnt remember that the CHA decided to demolish the Robert Taylor homes and other failed low income housing projects. Those residents were relocated to the south suburbs of Dolton, Riverdale, Calumet City, and Burnham. That also relocared the gang operations south.

About the best narration on corruption I have ever heard. Even worse so much of the residential area is relatively intact and could easily be a great affordable (for Illinois-Chicago metro) area to live in which is well illustrated in the video. The thorough relentless detail should make everyone more alert to how dangerous corruption is. I have very fortunately never had to live in an area like this but I have experienced very close calls where this kind of behavior came close to derailing my career development. Honesty is the best policy is not just a cliche. Stunning, thoughtful and sobering video.
Followup...WGN TV in the last few days has done investigative reporting including an interview with the mayor. This video is not only spot on but may have encouraged a very recent deeper look.

Grew up there and it was great area to grow up in but they ruined it...! It not only looks terrible but the crime went up and they can't govern.... Had great parades on the 4th and a great carnival, nice stores, taverns, it was great and almost no crime..... That's all gone...! This Mayor belongs in jail...! Lori Lightfoot is doing the investigating, that is an absolute JOKE...LOL

Great video! I grew up on the other side of the river from Dolton in the mid 80s and 90s. The side of the river I was on was already warzone before i was even born. Places like Harvey were too.
Whats crazy about Dolton its had the fastest decline in the area. In the 80s and even the 90s it was a pretty nice place, you didnt have almost any of the issues you see today. Dolton used to be nothing like riverdale, harvey and a few of the other suburbs. Now its essentially the same.

I went to Thornton High School. I had friends from Dolton and Riverdale. I grew up in Harvey and our town changed to Black. Their was white flight and we moved to South Holland. My friends didn't understand but they learned when their towns turned Black.

This would have been a more well rounded video if you had mentioned Henyards criminal background before being elected city of Dolton mayor and how she once sat on the board of Trustees herself and even then completely out of her league unqualified to be head coach of a middle school Cheerleader squad let alone run for public office. Andrew Holmes background as a shady Chicago community activist is interesting and the fact that Lightfoot was ousted from her own electoral seat for being a terrible Mayor of the city of Chicago. There are MANY other harassed employees, businesses in Dolton who were unable to renew they're licenses for not contributing to the mayors campaign fund aka (refusal of financial shakedowns). All these politicians are working together as a team including Lightfoot because they are all criminals who have been put in place and if Henyard hasn't been removed in all this time for her criminal wrongdoings it's because she's been handpicked; meaning she's not leaving her post until her mission is complete. So sit back and watch, let her do her "Thug Thizzle" which will lead next to a spectacular six figure Netflix series because BAD is rewarded in this corrupt system.....

Some of the main streets look rough but the side streets look nice. They need a new mayor and police chief and more businesses immediately.

This is the cleanest little town I've ever seen
They would have a problem with me if I was mayor. They would get on me about "not spending" money. The trustees would have to use their own money and at the pay I would be getting, I would have to pay my own way (salary of $280,000 a year). I would make sure the township would rack up a good $10 million dollars before spending it on anything. Repairs on local streets, sidewalks, curbs, and traffic lights would be as needed. Snowplow and salt service would be mandatory every year. Police and fire department would go first for funds. I would welcome small business to set up shop in town. I would work on bringing big businesses to Dolton and that would be the main agenda. It's going to India and China and getting them to bring businesses to Dolton. After that, it's funding the school districts and getting the schools back to the way they were back in 1980.

I grew up in Southern Cook County not that far from Dolton (Homewood-Flossmoor). I witnessed all of the decline and thankfully moved away 20+ years ago. Dolton is just another south side dump that was ruined before her and will be ruined after her. She's just par for the course..
