- This is the first snake I've ever personally owned and she is precious! The video itself is a bit rushed because I was more focused on the snake and didn't wanna be distracted by trying to make a video, but more polished videos about her are definitely to come in the future. Thank you so much to Germaine Guy @ShovelNoseHogs for this beautiful animal and all the help he's given me! Links below.

She’s amazing. I love her! You’ll get more. Trust me. I started with one now I have half a dozen they all have amazing and different personalities but are very sweet. Can’t wait to watch her grow!
Thank you for the kind comment! I am absolutely smitten with her and can absolutely see myself getting more in the future. Thanks for checking out the video. I am looking forward to making more videos about her in the future.
Hey Jen! 😊 fancy meeting you here! Lol 😂
I totally agree got one then recently got a second Hognose!! they are awesome!!! congratulations!!!!😘🤙🏼🫶🏼
@@leinani10 Thank you so much! She's a real sweetheart. Had a hard time getting her to eat for a few weeks recently, but she's back on track now!
I bought my 12 yr old granddaughter one that is a female 50% toffee. We're in love with her & now I want my own. When we move up her terrarium size, I will take the 10 gal she's in now & do it. I find watching her when she's out & about very relaxing. We wash our hands & make sure they're nice & warm before holding her. She's very relaxed in my granddaughter's hands once we get her out & she handles her about twice a week. Very cool snakes!
Nice video. I'm glad she made it safely
She's great. Completely happy and healthy!
Great looking hoggie. I started 1.5 years ago now own 8 hoggies. Enjoy
Oh, goodness! Well sneak preview - I am talking to a breeder now about getting 2 more soon so I can do some breeding myself in the future. I can definitely see how it's an addictive hobby :) Also, I am going to be filming a video tomorrow about my first 100 days with Snoot, so stay tuned if you are interested in that. Thanks for watching!
I know one day, your gonna be successful just like snake discovery! HOGNOSES are so cute
That's such a huge compliment! Thank you so much for saying so!
She's absolutely adorable
Isn't she just! Thank you for commenting!
She's a beauty!❤️
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that!
This is my first time watching your channel. I love your method of handling her and that you're teaching your daughter as well
Thank you so much for the kind words! Alice has become very fond of snakes, and absolutely loves Snoot. I actually have 2 more snakes coming this week if you wanna stick around and see those! Thanks again!
It's been 16 years since I got my first one. I'm only 18 lol. Welcome to the reptile world. Its a slippery slope too MTS (multiple tank syndrome )
Holy rip! You've had snakes since you were 2? That's awesome! I assume your parents are avid keepers, too, then?
WHY ARE THEY SO CUTE!!
I know, right!? Freaking adorable!
Snoot looks great! Awesome setup.
Thank you! I am going to get some plants in there soon. I just wanted to move her in first.
Awwwww baby Snoot! I love the name and the snake! 😁😁
Thank you so much! We went back and forth on the name for ages, but finally settled on Snoot.
She's such a cutie pie. So calm.
She is! Such a treasure. Thanks for watching! I just got a new snake named Beignet that I am going to make a video about hopefully this weekend. She is also amazingly well-behaved as well. Thanks again!
Nice! Cool to see someone post about one of Germaine's babies. Hope you'll keep us updated on her progress.
I definitely plan to! Germaine was awesome to work with. I'm planning on a another video of her next week. Thank you!
Congrats on your first snake! It starts as curiosity and quickly becomes an obsession… if she doesn’t want to eat at first you will need to downsize her enclosure for around a year.. especially her hide
Thanks for watching and the tip! She's been a fantastic eater for me so far, so I think that won't be a problem, but definitely good to know for the future. And yes, I already want another one! I can see how it could snowball.
@@ErikNonIdle I have several that don’t miss a meal and 2 that are a total pain. Having a good start with a good breeder helps a lot. Germaine knows his stuff
@@LifewithLewy oh, man, Germaine has been a real blessing. He's answered so many of my questions and been super-helpful. I'll be doing an interview with him on this channel before too long. We were talking about it earlier today, so that should be fun.
@@ErikNonIdle very cool. Hope your channel grows fast.. I’ve been working on mine for about a year now
@@LifewithLewy Thanks, brother! I appreciate that! I'll be checking your channel out as well. I really appreciate the support!
She is beautiful
Isn't she just!? Thank you so much for watching!
@@ErikNonIdle yes she is! And you're welcome 🙂
Unboxing new hoggies is the best thing ever. Ive been blessed to do it 9 times now.. And I've had 3 kids lol. Still think it's the best.
Thank you for commenting! Sneak preview: I just paid off my new hogs and they should be arriving Wednesday! Expect a video Wednesday or Thursday of me unboxing those bad boys. I am so excited!
@Erik NonIdle hehe... now you're hooked! There should be a HA, Hognose Anonymous for people like us.
She is very cute. First name I thought of.. Noodle x Tofu = Miso 🍜
We thought of Miso! That was definitely on the list, but we decided against it. We also thought of Udon and a couple other East Asian food names, but ultimately decided against it. Funny we had the same idea!
It's clear you know what you're doing. I think you'll be a great keeper. Thanks to yt, it's so easy for people to attain the knowledge necessary for successfully keeping contented reptiles. I wish it had been a thing when I was young lol.
Luke, that really means a lot to me! Thank you so much for saying that! I have two snakes coming in this week that I am very excited about if you wanna stick around. I'll be releasing a video about them later this week. Hopefully.
Congratulations on your first snake!! She's the most docile little thing! Enjoy her! 🙂
I will, friend, thank you! She's the best and I love her dearly.
@@ErikNonIdle I've just realised your on the discord! 😄👍
@@hognosebestuk Yep! That's me! I recognized your name and avatar and figured that's how you found me :)
@@ErikNonIdle actually I just do random searches on youtube now and again for hognose content and you popped up! Thought I recognised the name but it didn't twig until I went on discord lol 😆 are you going to do any more videos soon? 🙂😁
@@hognosebestuk Yes! I've been injured recently and really busy, but I have a video coming up soon where I build my first enclosure, and I am working on a target training video, but that's gonna take a while because Snoot is being picky with her food recently. OH! And I am actually going to be interviewing Germaine Guy soon, so that's gonna be fun.
Have you considered building a bioactive setup? I think they look so cool. I finished my first, for my first reptile, a crested gecko, about 4-6wks ago. It didn't turn out _exactly_ as I planned, but I really like it and it's gonna make a great home.
Yes! I am absolutely going to do a bioactive setup before long. I have a few things on my list to get to first, but then I will. Is there a place I can go see your setup! I'd love to see what you came up with?
Oi, she is so precious!
She is! Thank you so much! She's grown 2 inches since this video and has such a great personality! Thanks again for watching!
You sound like me! I found out about hognose in July or August or so last year and had my first one by October! Now I have 5! Lol 😂
Watch out they are addictive!
My daughter is dying to get her own now, so I at least have an excuse to get a second one ;) Thanks for watching!
@@ErikNonIdle Awwww that's cute! My daughter is 16 and afraid of my hognose. Lol 😂
Mostly just my new feisty one but it's not like she bites or anything. Lol 😂
@@Upper_echelon_exotics She'll come around :) Snoot has hissed at me a couple times, but I make sure to go ahead and grab her anyway to teach her that doesn't work on me, cute though it is. She's already started calming down, and when she does hiss, it's pretty half-hearted.
@@ErikNonIdle Oh this one is crazy feisty! She hisses and bluffs in my hand! All my other ones don't do that! Lol 😂
@@ErikNonIdle I can be holding her for like 5-10 minutes and then all of a sudden she's jumping again!
So cute :)
Thank you so much! I actually have a down payment on a couple other cuties for January. I think you'll like them, too!
@@ErikNonIdleHehehe :) Everyone says it - as soon as you get 1, you end up with more :D
I don't have a snake, but if I could have one, I think hognose is definitely something I could have, they are so beautiful with that nose too ;) But here in Norway, where I live, it is not legal. Good video, you guys seem good
@@anne-lenebakken5827 Ah! Bor du i Norge? Jeg lærer Norsk! I still have a lot to learn, though. We are planning a trip to Norway next October to see Kaizers Orchestra. Shame hogs are illegal there, you'd really like them.
@@ErikNonIdle Cool 🤩 Norsk kan være litt vanskelig å lære ;) So cool that you want to travel here, and especially learn a bit of the language too😀
I have a leos and now I want more reptiles😋
@@anne-lenebakken5827 Yes! I can't wait to visit. My brother went there for 2 weeks last month and loved it. He wants to move there now. I'm not familiar with that reptile. I'll have to look it up!
Congrats🥰
Thank you so much! I've got a bunch of other fun stuff coming up on the channel soon, too!
You should be quarantining the baby hognose for at least a month in a quarantine container with a damp paper towel on the bottom of the container with a paper towel tube and a water dish
I appreciate the advice! I spoke to others around the time that I got Snoot about that and got mixed opinions, but I'll likely be trying what you suggest in the future. Thanks again!
Beautiful little snake mind that it doesn't ingest any of the substrate while feeding l feed my snakes in a separate container with no substrate
Thank you for the compliment, Robert! I really appreciate it. I keep a flat stone in their enclosures for enrichment and to help them shed, so when I feed, I make sure there isn't any substrate there and put the mouse on it. I know impaction can be a big deal. Thanks for the heads-up!
I've always wanted a biggie.
Sorry, what do you mean 'biggie?'
I meant a hoggie. My spell check is crazy. I love hognose snakes.
@@aliceaiken3162 I was almost certain that's what you meant, but I wanted to make sure if wasn't some weird bot comment ;) I am loving my hognose! I am completely smitten with her. I took some really good photos of her this weekend and am going to release a video with them tomorrow or the next day. Definitely look into getting one yourself one day, though! They are amazing!
I had wild ones as pets 60 years ago. They like to poop on you when frightened.
I've heard that! Mine have always been pretty calm. Probably partially due to them being captive bred unlike the wild ones you found. Thanks for watching!
How much are baby Hognoses
It depends on the genetics, but I got Snoot for $350 and she's not an expensive morph. You could get cheaper than that if you just want a pet, or pay a lot more for rare genes, but I would say the $300 range is a good approximate.
Hello, how often you feeding her? Thank you
Thank you for watching, Sergio! I was initially feeding her on Thursdays and Sundays, but have since switched to about every 5 days. She's eating frozen thawed pinkies that are about 15-20% of her body weight.
Can you actually do this? You can't feed a snake when it's immediately delivered?
Some people say they can get stressed from transportation and won't eat until they get used to their new environment. I just waited a few days to try and feed her and everything worked out fine. Having said that, every snake and situation is different, so yours may eat right away. Doesn't hurt to wait just in case, though, since snakes can go so long without eating.
@@ErikNonIdle oh that's cool. Thanks for sharing some knowledge :)
@@working2476 Of course, friend! Let me know if you have any other questions. I love talking about these snakes!
Oh bless you they are delightful little pet snakes and a great first snake to have. I hope he/she brings you lots of pleasure
..oh ye and just handle her she will prob musk once or twice if you're really unlucky but they soon get very friendly
@@carollane8694 Thank you so much! This video was recorded about 9 weeks ago, so since then I've had plenty of interaction with her and learned a lot. She went through a bit of a hunger strike already, but some really kind folk on Discord were able to help me out with that, and her behaviour has been absolutely wonderful! I handle her almost everyday, and she just sits in my hand and explores around a bit. I love her dearly already! Thanks again for watching and commenting!
@@ErikNonIdle you are most welcome. I find mine prefer dinner in a little shallow dish -- I got these plastic leaf shapes ones from Amazon which come in a set of 3 that are diff sizes.- rather than tongue feeding as they're a little bit different to most of the strike feeding species. they do sometimes ike to try and eat stuff sideways but don't worry they get there in the end it's just a bit gory and gross to watch. They can have a go at strike feeding when they're a bit bigger but they're clumsy and miss a lot although it's very funny to watch
Good advice! She ate of tongs the first 3 or 4 times, but recently she only wants to eat off of a surface in her enclosure when I am not around. She's become shy, it seems :)
@@ErikNonIdle I think it's just more natural for them and how they would eat in the wild. I'm glad you are enjoying her she does seem like a really sweet little girl. We have 3 hoggies all fairly young 1 is ever so sassy and give it full tude all the time, a little boy who's as gentle as your girl and another female who is great expect for when she's had a poop. She then guards that poop ferociously flaring and hissing then back to normal once it's gone. Have I mentioned they aren't too bright 🤣 completely adorable all the same 🙂
