Hello, I have a baby Western hognose snake that my sister found in September in our driveway at our farm in Nebraska. Since the time we've had him he hasn't eaten until last Wednesday of this month. I would like some advice on how often I should feed the snake since he's started eating. We have him in a 12×16 inch plastic container since he is so small. I did research and taped black paper around the container so he wouldn't feel stressed. He has Aspen smaller bedding and a place to hide and a heating pad. When I fed him I thawed half a pinky mouse in warm water and I used tweezers and he ate it. He seems to be doing fine but I really want to raise this snake properly and know that I'm doing enough for him/ her. Please give me your advice.
I'm sad now. I caught an eastern H.N. yesterday and now realize I must release it because it's full grown and will probably never take a mouse for food. It is such a calm loving snake.
I have a question I have been considering getting a western hognose but someone told me that there poisonous or that they have venom is that true and if so how dangerous is it what should I be aware of by the way I love this channel
I got my ball python a year ago and she's in 20 gallons right now. But when she moves out of it I really wanna put a hognose in it, cause I just love them so much!! But I'm a bit worried if their good with new kinda snake keepers. I don't wanna get a snake I can't feed, and have to get rid of it, I'd be so sad and maybe not get another snake... Or it'd take me years to get the strength for one. So, for now, I want to know if a hognose would be good for me, then like do my research for like... Another two years, then get all the stuff for it and get it!
My male western is pissy as hell. Everytime I go near him he huffs, hisses, hoods up and fake strikes. When I hold him he just craps all over my hand everytime 😂 I just leave him in his Terrarium now as he is happy in there. I use dried leaves and eco earth, large coconut husk and large beech chips for his bedding and he prefers that to aspen. I also find it helps better when he sheds too. But that's my experience that I found with him.
I was telling some people about Hognosed snakes yesterday and gave them the link to this video. Then while moving some junk in the yard today we found a Hognosed snake! She was kinda cute, We took pictures of her and set her free.
I bought one 4 days ago just letting her settle in for a week Everytime o open the Viv to replace the water she starts hissing and doing the (headbut/strike) motion will she calm down and the person I bought her from says he was feeding her 1 medium mouse every 2 weeks
I’m wondering if it would be ok to catch wild American toads outside for my Hognose and feed her that way? Or would I need to collect the toads and put them in a container for future feeding? Freeze them? My main concern is how to safely kill parasites or rid the toads of parasites before feeding.
The funny part about the hognose snake Cobra display is that Cobra snakes are not indigenous to the states....Every time l come across a Hognose..... I mess with them just to watch their whole routine

They're so cute😂
I have a question I have been considering getting a western hognose but someone told me that there poisonous or that they have venom is that true and if so how dangerous is it what should I be aware of by the way I love this channel
Western Hognose snakes are my favorite type of snake too!!
Are you talking about the pinkie finger or a animal
Pinkie means a newborn mouse/other rodent that hasn’t grown fur yet.
When I hold him he just craps all over my hand everytime 😂
I just leave him in his Terrarium now as he is happy in there.
Considering a western hognose but have a question? Do all western hognose have that black belly?
