    From what I know you can't add zero's on the beginning of the plate if you only have 3 to 2 nor 1 numbers let's say if you have the " 00-15 "plate you can't do that you need to end up using the dots like " • • 15 " but this time you can't use a dash line even if it's 3 to 1 numbers in particular...
    Sorry for broken English

    U.S. Government plates are for the military "white fleet" (read; regular non-militarized vehicles) and those used by civilian agencies, same as at home.
    "Y-for-Yankee" plates are for U.S. Forces members' personally-owned vehicles.

    Greatly informative video ! I actually imported a 1996 Mitsubishi Delica into Canada and started looking for a genuine Japanese license plate that match my van. I know I could have a custom one made for me online with the correct series but I'd rather get a genuine one. Thanks to your video, I now know exactly what to look for in my search for a genuine Japanese license plate !

    Thanks for the video - really helped me out as I'm trying to source my original plate from a JDM import!
    I was wondering though, Is that information about exported cars available upon request in Japan, if you have the VIN to identify it, for example?

    • @sushi_cars
      @sushi_cars  Рік тому +1

      Legally speaking.. it is 100% impossible to ever acquire Japanese plates outside of Japan
      In order to export your car, you need to kill the registration, if you want to keep the car and cancel your insurance, you still need plates on the car until your inspection runs out.
      After your inspection runs out, you must return the plates.
      So unless someone "steals" damn, which is not the right thing to do, there is no way to get plates unfortunately.

      @@sushi_cars Oh sorry if I wasn't clear; I didn't mean to get official plates, just to get a replica made as an ornament to hang up in the garage, etc. It would be nice to know what the car started life on and thus, see how far it's come rather than picking random characters for a replica
      Thanks for more info on this though and the super quick reply, I really appreciate it!

    I watched a video where an abandoned Honda NSX-R was shown sitting in a parking bay. The plate on the front has the cool prefecture with the number 34 next to it. What does that mean?

    • @sushi_cars
      @sushi_cars  Рік тому

      34 would be into the double digits which means the car would be significantly older but still having held the same plates for a great deal of time
      Also because the second digit is a four, likely he customized the plate.
      Anything purchased now would have been a three digit plate
      Thanks so much for the comment

    How do you change the license plate frame on the rear if you can't take that bolt off?

    • @sushi_cars
      @sushi_cars  8 місяців тому

      It slides over the left side where the bolt is.
      So the right side would have a regular hole with a perimeter of plastic, and the left side would just have this kind of open-ended clip that slides behind it

    Was looking into this for my Toyota Tacoma (V6). I’m fairly certain it would be a 100 series. If I’m just making up a fake plate for decoration, the second 2 numbers can be whatever I want?

    • @sushi_cars
      @sushi_cars  Рік тому +1

      Yeah for sure, if it is a import into Japan from a usdm heavy... Then yeah, it's going to be a 100
      Or if there's something particularly special about it that requires more constant appearance, it's going to be an 800 plate which would result in yearly inspections

    What is JAF? What is the best car insurance that support English and cost effective.?

    • @sushi_cars
      @sushi_cars  2 роки тому +5

      Jaf is the Japan automobile federation. They are involved in licensing, road test information, etc. Kind of like the DMV in the states.
      ACE insurance has a lot of English. Otherwise you can go to Japan insurance.net they can point you in the right direction.
      It's all going to come down to what color is on your driver's license, gold, green, etc and then what you are insuring and where you live, etc.
      Also, keep in mind, for a full size car, you will need a police officer to verify the parking spot. But if you have a kei car, you don't need to verify it and you can just launch your car on the street if there is space

    Hello there I have a question. I saw a Mercedes with a classification code of 32k. What does that mean? Normally it's all numbers.

    • @sushi_cars
      @sushi_cars  Рік тому +1

      The top three numbers are either 0, 00, or 000
      Like 300, 480, 598 for eg
      However when they start to run out of combinations for the bottom LARGER numbers, then sometimes the top three numbers will turn into letters
      For eg. If the big characters on the bottom/bottom right are 11-11 but your top three characters are 300.... Then as the popular "11-11" get all taken up, you'll have to change the top character to something like a letter
      30K
      11-11
      Like that :)

      @@sushi_cars sorry I have a few more queries; so if you do get a customised plate, are you allowed to change your hiragana? And I think seen estate cars/ station wagons with 500 code even though they're shorter than a probox so are there other requirements.And do kei vans and cars start at 480/580?

    • @sushi_cars
      @sushi_cars  Рік тому

      @@blobba5442 as for the first question, it is a random identifier hiragana.
      And as for the second question, there are so many variables that go into what the top three numbers are
      You can have a Toyota Noah van, with or without a lip / side skirts/rear lip, and one will be 500 plate, and the other one will be a 300 plate
      Same with the Nissan serena. If you have an e-power with side skirts, a 300 plate. But if you have a base model Serena with no kit from factory, then you are a 500 plate
      And yes, some Vans like the Suzuki every, and the Subaru dias will be 400 plate, like kei trucks as well, however regular cars in the kei series will be 500

      Surprisingly you don't necessarily get placed into a cheaper class just because you are electric. They still go by weight and dimensions
      For example, the Tesla gets a 300 plate because it is very big and heavy regardless of how efficient it is.
      There are many exceptions to the license plate rules. Another example is the 1.3 l rotary actually doesn't get recognized as a small engine, they double it to 2.6 l
