Yes. The earlier models had CRAPPY cooling systems and they had a LOT of overheating issues, which turned a lot of prospective buyers off. I would have to check, but I think the head gaskets and the aluminum either heads or block were garbage. I grew up in that era and our mechanic bought one for his commute (he was the prior service manager at a Chevrolet dealer) and despite him being a die hard Chevrolet guy, he REALLY HATED his Vega.
They should have done this testing in 1969-70.
Same with the x cars...gm usually let's it's customers do the testing for them.
