I had a 1975 Astre GT and do remember it fondly. It was a great handling car with a suspension package and tire size like the Vega GT. Motor Trend magazine was doing dyno tunes back then. I bought their Dyno kit for $19.95. The kit with addition of a different serial number vacuum modulator gave me a wonderful improvement in driveability and 4 more mpg. What a bargain the kit was. The speed limits in Vermont and new Hampshire at that time were only 50mph. We took a road trip and at the slightly reduced speeds got 33 mpg on our highest mileage tank of gas.
My parents had two Monzas, one brown with tan interior and the other white with burgundy interior. I was born in 76. I remember riding in the trunk along with a neighbor kid who has a few years older than me. He was trying to explain Ronald Reagan to me. Probably during the 1980 presidential campaign. All I heard was raygun. Rayguns and lasers were / are cool! My father kept the brown Monza going until 1987ish. Lots of body filler. I thought it was a cool car and hoped to inherit it once I would turn 16 in 1992,. The car didn't make it. My father did buy me a 1980 Datsun 280ZX 10th anniversary, Black and Gold edition. I still have it in 2024. I've only seen one Monza in the past 2 decades (southeast) and that was 7 years ago.
I had a '76 Hatchback. Nice looking car. Build quality was awful. Take the worst car in the last ten years, much worse than that. Wind noise, engine noise, at 55 if your work enverment was this loud, OSHA would require hearing protection! The worst was how unreliable it was. Something was always broken or not working. Ten problems a year, that's how bad it was. It was a good thing I could fix things as I would not been able to afford the car.
It was such a good-looking car. Too bad GM didn't spend a couple million putting an aluminum crossflow head on the Chevy II 153 four and put the rest of that budget into rustproofing.
I had 2 Vegas.. Paid $500. Each.. drove them for 2 years each . sold them rust buckets, oil burning cars for $500 each. Loved them!! Didn't owe me a dime
GM malaise era crap cars. Cant blame Chevy for keeping its name out of this ad. Wasnt sure if GM could come back from the brink but they now have car people instead of bean counters running things, and are bulding innovative, stylish and competent cars. Still not in the Honda or Toyota class, but getting there.
My oldest sister had one of those in bronze it was a 72 Kamback and really not reliable. It was the first and last American car she had the next car was a brand new Plymouth Arrow 1079 model in Apple Green far better car and the next cars she had after were Mazdas and then went to an Acura. The common ground of the cars after the Vega were the cars were Japanese even the Plymouth recall the Arrow is a Mitsubishi
Oh my the Sunbird wagon is really a rehashed Pontiac Astre but really you think the front end could have been identical to the rest of the Sunbird line.
For the era this little car with the 231 V6 really moved along. This gem got great mileage traveling from Antigonish Nova Scotia to Amherst Nova Scotia Canada on a half tank of gas. Impressive and better than most of today's vehicles.
QUALITY ?????? Mine was a POS. They added a feature which shuts off the gas when the oil pressure is too low. My..... why would that be an issue ? Because they burned so much oil that oil pan would empty its self.
My sister had a 72 Vega Kammback in bronze the car had lots of issues and needless to say it was the last American made car she ever had her next car was a Plymouth Arrow bought brand new it was Apple green and far more reliable it was a decent looking car but it was pure shit.
Not these cars! They were the biggest pile of crap ever made. They probably made good race cars tubbed out but other than that they were crap. This guy is lying through his teeth
My first car was this '75 hatchback...in red no less. Wish I had the SJ version instead.
I owned 2 Vegas..loved them. To bad the engine wasn't that good..then body rot.😊

What is an S8?
At least 2 mistakes in a factory video?
02:23 The 1961 - 63 Buick/Olds aluminum V8 is actually about 10 lbs. lighter than the crap Vega 4 banger!
Most cars today don't get that mpg rating

Same here...I bought the '75 hatchback used in '77. "Died" by '80.
These were good sunbirds rear drive with available V8 power the 231 V6 was good as well these cars weren't more than 3000 lbs
Wow... They really want you to know: "It doesn't suck as hard anymore!"
What junk. Even worse than a Fiat.
It was such a good-looking car. Too bad GM didn't spend a couple million putting an aluminum crossflow head on the Chevy II 153 four and put the rest of that budget into rustproofing.
My aunt bought one of these rolling disasters. It blew up in less than 30,000 miles. Junk, junk, junk
Junk if you let it run out of oil or coolant, which your aunt obviously did.
I recognize the voice, its the boss from Get Smart Edward Platt, although he died in 74' so what did they Reuse audio?
Hi
Hi This is the girl who was on my dad's phone because I was bored at my dad's tennis tournament hi Thanks for the comments
My Gt was quick, comfortable, and great in the snow.
I think these were better looking than the Chevette that followed it. The last car I drove without power brakes was a rented 1986 Chevette.
The '77 Vega. What the '71 Vega should’ve been.
No car is perfect the first year
@@vegavairbob yeah that’s true.

These cars were such garbage Attractive garbage I thought they were so cute until I test drove one OMG What cheap flimsy crap

Hi Chloe!!
Keep it up ,perhaps comment on food trends or things going on, I see that you can amuse people,
Wow!...they just took the Vega wagon and named it Monza...
Oh my the Sunbird wagon is really a rehashed Pontiac Astre but really you think the front end could have been identical to the rest of the Sunbird line.

thanx for sharing,....my first car was a 77 town coupe with 5.0 V8, restored it a few years ago.
PETER THOMAS FOR THE WIN.
JUNK!!!!!

Did those two kids just steal that bag of ice? 🫣
Rear passenger forearms on that tranny tunnel.
Why not just go for the Malibu?
You can hardly tell it has the soul of a Vega! Great video though.
I'll take the Vauxhall Cavalier sports hatch, thanks ;)
2.5 Iron Duke isn’t 231 cubic inches! It’s 151.
Yep. The chart that compares with the Camaro also indicates the standard inline 6 in the Camaro (4.1L/250 CID) as a "V6"...
Wow! What a groovy ad! It would have been even better at the beach! With a name like Sunbird 😊
Nice Video, @ 47 seconds those Headlights are Definitely on “High beams”. The 70’s, what a Decade and glad I lived in it…
Where's the tone you'd hear to forward the slide? You can hear this guy has smoked 3 packs a day for 30 years already.
Looks like it was shot at Boyne Highlands in Petoskey.
Honestly very advanced for 75. Standard steel radials, front and rear roll bars, etc
My sister had a 72 Vega Kammback in bronze the car had lots of issues and needless to say it was the last American made car she ever had her next car was a Plymouth Arrow bought brand new it was Apple green and far more reliable it was a decent looking car but it was pure shit.
I bought a Toyota of the same year/ Drove it until 1996. The motor still ran great! Was unsafe to drive due to the sail eating up the body!
Not these cars! They were the biggest pile of crap ever made. They probably made good race cars tubbed out but other than that they were crap. This guy is lying through his teeth
Lord we had a SunBird and it was always breaking down
What a groovy ad, but the music put me to sleep, lol 😂
