He said “pretty basic” then did the hardest drill I’ve ever seen
He's a great teacher. Those kids he teaches are really lucky.
what i wouldn't give to skate like this guy, unbelievable. his edge control is absolutely ridiculous
Would you give 100 hours from your life on learning the principles of efficient forward stride on a skate mill and then a further 500 hours of edge work, power skating, transitional skating, lower body strength training, and core training?
If I ever win the lottery, I would legitimately fly up to Toronto for a few months just to train with Sean. He instructs so incredibly clearly and also brings an intensity that I have found nowhere else

Hockey Canada Stat ~ 10:19: 80% of the time you are on the ice in a shift, you are changing direction.
thank you!
You’re a legend
thank you so much
thanks bro
You and Sean Walker are beauties.
This guys is one of the most powerful skaters I've ever seen. You see those MASSIVE gouges he makes in the ice??? Holy shit.
No wonder why he's on an outside rink, he was probably banned from indoor rinks for ruining the ice haha
Leg strength!
Cold ice sharp blades
So true. Watching his stuff years ago has made me a much more powerful skater on the ice. Too bad I live so far away from ice that I have only ice skates once in the last year....
Seriously this guy is a better skater than most guys in the NHL.
Bolt Nacz .
Tons of guys are great skaters but can’t play hockey for shit.
he skates like your average professional player/skating coach. this is the caliber of skating at the pro level. plus hes not wearing any gear. hes good, but better than NHL ers? nah. average
Noah Stone i was going to make that comment but you already made it. Equipment makes a good solid difference.
no where near it. his knees need to be bent at least twice as much as he is in this vidio. search for a vidio of Ryan Suter practing with ushl Maidson Capitals "which he owns" and watch how fast he goes from a dead stop to full speed backwards in about 4 strids. the sound is unreal !
5:32 the backwards crossovers! That's crazy fast! Awesome.
Thanks for your videos. I am learning ice hockey being 45 years old, because of my kid love it. Now I can really enjoy doing crossovers, transitions, etc. and having massive fun!! Keep on!
same here
ditto ;)
I also started learning hockey at the age of 43. I always loved to skate since early childhood, and considered myself a good skater. Not top, but good. I only realized how much I'm lacking when I started to play hockey. To bad I didn't do this earlier.
This guy is the real deal for 2 reasons.
#1 he very clearly articulates the drills.
#2 he executes the drills himself flawlessly.
I’m a good skater but definitely couldn’t keep up with this guy. He’s a very good athlete and I’d say could hold his own in the NHL if he wanted. 👍
No he wouldnt. Hockey players laugh at this fool
Yea it’s crazy to think that with this guys speed and skills he still falls short of the NHL level.
maybe in the ahl or echl but even a 4th liner can do this which is remarkable you dont realize how good everybody especially superstars are in the nhl until youre on the glass watching them
he’s a great skater for sure but not everyone can hop in the nhl and produce just because of some videos they post on youtube lol
Holy, this guy is dynamite! Highly explosive - and he doesn't lose his breath!😮 Thank you for sharing your skills with me/us! 👍
Savannah, GA is getting an ice rink. Ive been studying with your videos.
Wow. I'm an ice hockey player in Korea. I really like your all videos and those are big help to me. You are a great instructor I've ever seen! Thanks a lot.
He is so fast that I have to watch in slow motion. Great video.
The Zamboni guy must hate this guy... Man his cuts are really deep.
Absolutely! lol
I just pulled my groin watching this.
The acoustics of his blades on the cold ice are magic. Love your vids bud.
R.I.P. my confidence, i thought i was actually gettingbbetter at skating. But i guess i need alot more work
aldane akeem you are getting better!
Haha keep going, just build it up and gain confidence and keep balance.
I remember back in the day when I could skate like this.
Your skating is one of the best i've seen, so controlled and smooth! Subbed
This is one of the best instructors you'll find. Highly recommended.
thanks sean! really appreciate your detailed instructions on technique!
So far the best explanation and examples I've seen on UA-cam! Thank you a mil!
You sir are absolutely amazing! Thank you for sharing these tips and techniques with us mere mortals.
Thanks to you I learned so much for skating. I found the part with listening the sounds coming from my skates very, very useful. Massive thanks.
Best instructor and best demonstration
I just love these videos!!! They have helped me improve my skating immensely!!! Many thanks!!!
I just realized I never really learned how to skate.
We held our practices there in the 1970's when I played in the Humber Valley Hockey Association, glad to see it still in use.
I watch this because I think hockey skating is more fascinating and fun to watch than figure skating. Either type of skating with see my body sprawled out on the ice - not a pretty sight - but I’ve always felt that hockey skaters have it over figure skaters every time. It’s pure skill.
By far the very best hockey instructional videos on UA-cam. Well done and thank- you!
Great instruction, great skating. I'm absolutely throwing a few of these into my next practices. Thanks for the tips and the videos!
Great video, excellent demonstration on transition. Looking forward to your up and coming videos in May.
Great videos! I've been translating them over to roller derby!
Best teaching of the principles simplified for your convenience ❤️
Amazing skater, perfect strides, strong on his feet....love it
While I like figure skating, it's the skill and raw power of hockey skating that I love. I can watch videos like this all day. No, I don't ice skate which really doesn't matter. It's the outstanding talent of hockey players that draw me to the game.
I've watched this video so many times. Great stuff.
great drills, practicing them for the whole winter here in czech republic, thank you
so graceful and so powerful! I need to learn my crossovers again
Fair play i have watched skating videos for ages and nhl for years and this guys skating is out of this world Well done man i'm definitely going to be trying these at the rink
I always get so much from your videos, Shawn, you actually explain what we are supposed to be doing with our skates, hips, upper body, etc. I have a question about your skates (I know you are now skating on the Bauer 2x Pro’s) do you have your blades profiled? If so, what profile is yours? 9 ft. 11ft, etc. and the final question is what hollow do you have on your skates? Thanks for all you do! I had an instructor tell me years ago when I started playing “Always be a student of the game”........ I live by that!
Your skating and teaching are excellent. Thanks.
His skating is so powerful and dynamic!
Great advice. Lead with the stick. Best advice I ever got
I love watching you skate!🤪 It looks really great and fluent, and it also helps that you don't just do it fast, but also slow with explaining. I really have to watch it several times to get the whole of the movements, as these drills get pretty complex. 😃🤗
That run through the drill @3:35 was some awesome skating.
Good Video, looked like an amazing day!
Sean you skate awesome. Thanks for the instruction.
I play, coach, and referee Roller Derby in Savannah, GA. We don't use pucks or sticks, but the fundamentals of controlled skating and giving and receiving contact are crucial to our sport. For several years I have used hockey training to improve our skaters, and this is by far the best skill video I have found for maximizing our transitional skills. I will bring these to our league and see how much we can improve.
One of my favorite videos 💯💯💯 respect for this🏒🏒🏒
Awesome - thank you for posting
The footwork around 5:20 is nuts. I can only ever get a couple of good backwards crossovers before I'm nearly turned around to the other direction again.
Always posting great videos!
Very good video, clear instructions and excellent skater plus coach
awesome...wow such control. Thanks for posting
Amazing training skills!

Sean, you're the man.
But , the great player over and above.
Best instructions !
Ur da best! Tnx
Amazing, thanks 🔝🏒🥅
Dude's nice with the skating!
Well, broke the malleolus while doing the "Neutral Zone Pivot Around Puck" exercise. The tip of the blade got embedded into the ice when progressing to the C-cut version and the rest of the body continued the movement until the bone broke and I fell. So to all the newbies like me attempting this: be careful when doing that one and spend more time in the previous exercises before attempting it! :D
Man this guy is good. What i wouldnt do to get some one on one training with this guy
He is awesome!!! and I love his helmet!-)
OMG. So good. I'm speechless :)
I "Liked" this video years ago, I really want to "Like" it again. Simply superior instruction

I’m a self taught skater/hockey player and some people think I actually do play BUT after seeing this video I realize how pathetic I really am😂😂😂
