Would you give 100 hours from your life on learning the principles of efficient forward stride on a skate mill and then a further 500 hours of edge work, power skating, transitional skating, lower body strength training, and core training?

This guys is one of the most powerful skaters I've ever seen. You see those MASSIVE gouges he makes in the ice??? Holy shit.
No wonder why he's on an outside rink, he was probably banned from indoor rinks for ruining the ice haha

no where near it. his knees need to be bent at least twice as much as he is in this vidio. search for a vidio of Ryan Suter practing with ushl Maidson Capitals "which he owns" and watch how fast he goes from a dead stop to full speed backwards in about 4 strids. the sound is unreal !

I also started learning hockey at the age of 43. I always loved to skate since early childhood, and considered myself a good skater. Not top, but good. I only realized how much I'm lacking when I started to play hockey. To bad I didn't do this earlier.

This guy is the real deal for 2 reasons.
#1 he very clearly articulates the drills.
#2 he executes the drills himself flawlessly.
I’m a good skater but definitely couldn’t keep up with this guy. He’s a very good athlete and I’d say could hold his own in the NHL if he wanted. 👍

I watch this because I think hockey skating is more fascinating and fun to watch than figure skating. Either type of skating with see my body sprawled out on the ice - not a pretty sight - but I’ve always felt that hockey skaters have it over figure skaters every time. It’s pure skill.

I always get so much from your videos, Shawn, you actually explain what we are supposed to be doing with our skates, hips, upper body, etc. I have a question about your skates (I know you are now skating on the Bauer 2x Pro’s) do you have your blades profiled? If so, what profile is yours? 9 ft. 11ft, etc. and the final question is what hollow do you have on your skates? Thanks for all you do! I had an instructor tell me years ago when I started playing “Always be a student of the game”........ I live by that!

I play, coach, and referee Roller Derby in Savannah, GA. We don't use pucks or sticks, but the fundamentals of controlled skating and giving and receiving contact are crucial to our sport. For several years I have used hockey training to improve our skaters, and this is by far the best skill video I have found for maximizing our transitional skills. I will bring these to our league and see how much we can improve.

Well, broke the malleolus while doing the "Neutral Zone Pivot Around Puck" exercise. The tip of the blade got embedded into the ice when progressing to the C-cut version and the rest of the body continued the movement until the bone broke and I fell. So to all the newbies like me attempting this: be careful when doing that one and spend more time in the previous exercises before attempting it! :D
