      Exactly. Would really appreciate some detailed tips on how to outside edge stop.

    • @dansprogis4521
      @dansprogis4521 4 роки тому +4

      @@tombarni6009 I was working on them last night, i found just getting used to how much pressure to use helps by keep your non stopping foot on the ice for balance until you get the feel or scraping a layer off the ice without bouncing your skate (if that makes sense) and just repeat. Practicing cutting and changing direction using the outside edge helped a lot as well as balance wasnt an issue, just focusing in on digging that outside edge into the ice to change direction. My issue right now is center of balance when doing the one footed stops. I can do it but i usually tip over the stopping leg too much. Ive been doing the inside edge stops forever and my muscle memory is so honed that so doing the other foot is really really tricky.

    • @tombarni6009
      @tombarni6009 4 роки тому

      @@dansprogis4521 @Dan Hi, thanks for your quick tips. Yeah, I've also got the impression that breaking cautiously (i.e. beginning by touching the ice softly) with the toe of the front foot's outside edge 'before' respectively 'to start' a tight turn helps a little bit to get a feeling of breaking with the outside edge. I hope doing this is not a false friend = actually teaches me a wrong technique...

    I'm no hockey player, just a dad who has a daughter who's really got into skating. We've been using hockey style hire boots and she loves them - when we tried figure skates she didn't like the jagged stop or tail (neither did I). We can get around the ice OK, but these drills are fantastic and simple just to get confidence and muscle memory.

    Ok. First i should say that im old and i suck at skating
    I recently found out that paul coffee (who i ive always idolized along with s
    sandis ozolinsh) apparently wore skates like 3 sizes smaller than his shoes to really isolate his feet in his skates and had to get his skate laces cut off after games.
    Hearing this I went down an additional 1/2 size (cant stand to have my toes any more cramped then they already were in there) and it might be purely psychosomatic but i feel like o have more control over my edges now.
    We'll see if it persists.
