Sean, when I first watched this video several years ago...I think all I saw was blurry feet. I had very little idea what I was looking at. I have been working on all the drills, progressing from the easier ones to the hard ones and now I watch this video from start to finish with a really good idea of what this is all about! Thanks! This has improved my skating and coaching ability immeasurably!

I'm only a few months into skating and have been watching your videos and like how you emphasise the importance of listening to the sound of your skates and where to concentrate your weight. I watched your video (numerous times) on the fwd stride and the sound it makes at the very end of the stride where your toe digs in for a bit. I went out and worked at it for hours and could here it and well not close to yours but could here it. I think people that wear ear buds when trying to learn to skate are missing out. thanks for your hard work make these videos.

I used to play hockey for my school 30 years ago and since then I has been sure I can skate until I watched this video :(
    I can't. At least for ice-hockey purposes.
I tried to replicate his exersices and although I did them ugly and half his speed, in 20 minutes my legs were exhausted as if I skated hour and a half my usual mode.
Good thing is I now know what to do. Thanks for the lesson!

I learn something new each time I watch it for the duration of it. I learn so much of your teaching that I feel guilty or like a parasite. If you have a website that takes donation I will pitch in. My friend who goes to the same rink, I saw him doing a lot of stuffs that you do and I asked him if he watched you he said all the time and said you are D-best, he got me to buy a VH too👍🏽👍🏽

This style of skating is to choppy, you can dig ice with lighter impact with great result?Cutting to deep ,will give you no speed - I do prefer wave movement(bending knees&torso coordinated ,your whole body working in unison) ,the silent you skate, move -the faster you are.

People saying using the heel is a no-go, or that they prefer a smooth skater, didn't get the memo. This video is all about controlling the egdes, which is the basis of every skate move, gripping the ice like he does requires good leg and ankle strength, which will help in sharp turns. If you prefer smoothness, play roller hockey. Sweet video, as usual!

two questions for you: first, I would love to try all those outside edge drills but I can barely balance for half a second before falling on the ice when I try to use the outside on only one foot. So what do you recommend to get started? Second, where did you buy that blue suit you are wearing, or where can you get something like it, as that looks comfortable to practice skating in.

I just want to say thank you so much for doing this video (as well as all your others, but in particular this one). I love watching hockey and love skating even more. I really wanted to play ice hockey, but here in the UK it's an incredibly niche sport with very few facilities and infrastructure, plus I'm 30 so I just wrote myself off as been "too old to start". However about four months ago I just decided to get out on the ice, I felt my progression was going well until I tried to master the hockey stop. No matter how many different videos I watched I just couldn't understand what I had to do and was starting to get frustrated at my plateau of progress. This video was such an eye opener in terms of actually understanding my edges. Whilst there's still a load of exercises in this video I'm still a long way from successfully pulling off, the ideas really translated well into my hockey stop practice, and I was finally able to do a passable hockey stop today for the first time (follow by about 50 more, haha). It was such a boost, and your video really helped contribute to that success, thank you again for putting such a clear informative video on a free platform such as youtube. This kind of insight would probably cost £50 an hour for a lesson. My goal for 2019 is to get good enough to join an amateur ice hockey team (I played field hockey to a high level at uni so hopefully the stick skills will come more naturally). I'm holding out on your videos to carry me there.

Greendotz thank you so much for this message! Such a nice compliment, it feels good to know you’re benefiting from watching the videos so much! You’re never too old to learn a skill or new sport. I’m learning to play tennis at the moment since I’ve always enjoyed playing the game! I hope these videos continue to help you with your progress. Check out our video membership on iTrainHockey.com for our Hockey Stop full tutorial as well as many other skills training videos and practice plans!

I'm 44 and just started in a rec league they call "Never-ever League". It's for those who've never ever skated, played hockey, don't know the rules, etc. I mean, I've skated 8 times in my life before doing this, so it wasn't quite never-ever for me! :D And I know what icing is.
The "league" is 10 lessons to teach the basics and then, if we feel comfortable, join a beginner playing league. Or just do never-ever again. But at once a week, I need a fix and watching vids like these help me get more rounded when I go out on the ice by myself (because once a week just isn't enough).
Heh, my point is, you're never too old!

I tore the ice up with these drills today and had the Zamboni driver chew me out! The large heel pushes set the guy over the edge and he flipped. LOL

Your work here is amazing and I can't thank you enough for this awesome series. One question I have is, since I go to public skating sessions-where there are little kids and figure skaters, and they do not allow hockey sticks-to practice and learn, is it detrimental if I don't use a stick when doing these drills and does it affect the motion and balance enough to create bad habits?

One of my favorite footages upon hockey skating techniques) I also watch PATINAGE DE HOCKEY series from Quebec in French. I address my question to ITRAIN hockey specialists- in the video from Qurbec theere is a clear statement that performing backward crossovers the extterior leg must keep the permenent contact with the ice. Do you agree with this suggestion? Thank you a lot in advance fro responding me.
