Carmen speaks very logically, you can see she has worked hard for her position and career along with the realism it took to achieve those goals. Carmen's advice was great, the understanding of those seeking the same path was very evident in how she spoke. what a woman!

Watching the video is the first step towards you achieving your goal. Carmen gives some very good starting points for your journey. Good luck and let us know how you get on.
i'm only a sophomore in high school, but i already know my 100% plan is to become a fashion buyer for a large company, or maybe something like Hollister. I know i want to go to college at LIM or NYU. which one do you think is a better choice for what i want to do as my career? Also, to be a fashion buyer, do you think you could tell me what i should major and minor in? i know i want to possibly get my masters and also maybe even double major because i feel like that would be a good impression on those who are hiring, i was also thinking it might even get me ahead having that experience because i know the fashion business is very competitive so i'm trying to be prepared. Thank you for this video and for your time :)
Should I major in Marketing? I want to be a fashion buyer/stylist, considering majoring in fashion merchandising but I want a degree that's open to many opportunities but then again fashion is my passion.. Early advice would truly help
@@gabajastrzebska Hi!! I just got an internship in Merchandising /buying at TJX. I’m at Junior in college right now, and I am majoring in marketing. Just be sure to show your interest in fashion through your extracurriculars (for me i joined a fashion magazine club and also worked part time in retail). It depends on the company, but TJX is open to all majors for their program. Hope this helps!!
I am 17 and am very interested and determined in getting into the fashion industry and getting into the right collage involving fashon, art, and advertising. I would like to know how and who to write letters too, to ask questions on what to do and how to get on the right path to being successful in the fashion industry. Would you be so kind as to help me?
+Beth Schafer its very good determine. we are a ready made garments buying agent & also have knit manufacturing unit . if you are interested to business with us we will provide all support. mail here : mti.mamun@gmail.com
I really have been studying and learning about fashion buying and it seems like a great field of business and fashion to go into. Do you know anything I could do as a high school student to better myself for college and as an intern ?
Firstly, try and read up on the industry via blogs, magazines, etc. Have your finger on the pulse. Try and interview people in the industry for your high school or college newspaper. The idea is to get face time with people in the industry and then at the end of the interview give them your CV. Ask to do a few weeks work experience during the holidays. Network and work hard while you're their. See Dylan Jones (GQ) interview on this very channel who gives some stellar points of reference. If you have a real passion, backed up with knowledge, employers will gravitate towards you. Finally use your trump card, your youth. They are desperate for ideas and people with the energy to join them. Please let us know how you get on. It will be great to hear your story.

ana lechuga The world economy allows you to do it. Fashion crosses more borders for inspiration, manufacturing, etc. Most organisations want people who can offer insights from all over.

+lilnarwhalx im not in college yet, so I'm just making an assumption, but for this type of job business, marketing, and advertisement should help, however there is soo much more to fashion since its such a broad subject, so most likely you will be working with a team, so you should look more into the aspects of the job that you like and find a team to fill in the other spots.(your team should have : a vision, strategy, tactics, revenue model, marketing, and sales in mind) AGAIN I am not in college and I am clearly not a business owner, so I can be WAY off.
I had a complete career change going from personal training to going back to school when I was 26 to get a degree in business. I have also studied fashion and merchandising short courses and planning on interning in the summer I will be 30 when I graduate next year will my age hold me back when applying for buying jobs as most applying are In their early 20's?
Laura Gilmore I don't think age is an inhibitor. In fact, put your best foot forward and make employers see the positive you bring by having more years of experience. eg. Communication skills are key and the more experience you have of this, the more valuable you are to an organisation. Insights to the fashion world are key and this isn't dependant on age. Having the right attitude and right energy is key. If you come across as some one who adds value to them, they will hire you regardless of age. There is much to admire in people who change their path toward something they are passionate about. Of course, don't change direction like the wind, but show the thinking behind why you changed and what skills you can bring from the past and apply to your new field. Good luck and tell us how it goes.
theinternbook Im in the same boat as her. I got a degree in merchandise Marketing from a known fashion school around my early 20s when I left the university. Upon graduating I realized a lot of companies want bachelors degree.... so I go back to the university to get a bachelors of science in apparel merchandise management from a four year college. I also took the opportunity to do several internships for major retailers. I am still having a hard time finding a job. Ive found a few ,but has nothing really related to do with my degrees. Ive even applied for retail and most people interviewing me say that management internships are not enough experience. Its kinda sad when a lot of the people managing you are 19 with no experience, but have the position because they moved up, but hey you got to start somewhere. I feel that since I am entering my 30s its kinda a set back. Most of the positions I find are part time I tried contacting corporate at the retailer I work at part time. How do I do a follow up? I apply and apply and apply and nothing
Nichole Messam Reach out to the places you would love to work at. But be ready to show them why they should hire you or find a position for you. Employers are looking for young energetic talent that can bring insights to what they do. So research what they do well and what else they should be doing. Then present that to them. See ua-cam.com/video/zOdTorMlllg/v-deo.html for the tenacity you need to get employers to notice you. The key thing is to make a lane for yourself where one might not exist. Good luck and tell us how it goes.
Fashion school is to become a designer . Fashion Merchanding is for being in business (buyer, merchandiser, etc.) If you want to be a buyer go to fashion merchandising I'd say. (Maybe get a certificate online for fashion styling at a creditable place)
