My hope is that Chris Pine's Steve Trevor won't be written or edited to overshadow Wonder Woman, and that they maintain the (mostly) flirtatious yet platonic relationship that they hold in the comics. I can imagine it must be very tempting for Hollywood to want to use Chris Pine as a force of masculinity within the film.
Jess Smith well the fact that a woman had been given the reins to direct means that issue can be avoided because she will understand better how to portray a female character in the right way.
the whole horror of patriarchy is that it shits on us all. A hell lot of women miss the point and go with the status quo as many men do. Soooo I am going to hold on to some healthy skepticism. Because Suicide Squad was an utter disaster and I still want DC to mail me back the money for the tickets.
For aaages I used to think that the final lyrics of the nursery rhyme Row Row Row Your Boat were "Life is Butter Dream", like the rhyme was just some marketing slogan for a brand of butter...
Great video. I'm remaining, probably, naively optimistic. But my god, wouldn't it just be wonderful if the first good DC film in nearly 10 years was female led in both director and cast.
? What? The Dark Knight, TDKR, Watchmen, Man of Steel ( for some reason controversial), BvS lauded by many such as its wonderful exec producer C. Nolan, not to mention many animated movies
ZS is undeniably even by an average movie goer an amazing director and these films- bar Superman which they'd been trying to make for decades prior, are always going to be done right and make $800m+-- essentially eventually as did Superman. The only problem is rushed teamups, even JL would've been OK without reshoots, and fine people don't understand BvS they like marvel films fine, but Suicide Squad had scene after scene of amazing inspired ideas but given 6 weeks to write a movie and having to film 179hrs or something like that to figure it out as you go along will obviously make it bland. DC hire big great filmmakers bcos they aren't trying to save money on indie directors, which Marvel do ( not that there's anything wrong with that, e.g. The Russo's are amazing). So Man of Steel, Wonder Woman, Aquaman with big budgets are all great and fresh and completely original, as it is looking is Shazam, and the second WW, which would obv be made even just looking at the trailer will undoubtedly be good. Venom is people desperately trying to copy Marvel, whereas Aquaman is just not every director says what ZS says about movies, as with WW- so Shazam actually looks extremely original not trying to copy marvel or anything, I would say look at the director that seems to be the personality of the film ( understandably so).
Viola Davis is leading a female heist movie, Steve McQueen directing, written by Gone Girl's Gillian Flynn, called widows. Very much looking forward to that!
I think it's really good that you talk about these issues in the film industry, AS a white man, because it shows that not only women care about how they are treated. As I am studying film to work in the industry, I feel very thankful for guys like you and think we definitely need more!
CreativeDocs Hey! So since you're a female studying in film school I have a few questions (because lately I had this crazy idea that I wanna become a film director/producer) 1) I'm in 12th grade and going into university do you think I should study film Or should I just take some film classes and study the actual major I'm applying for which is computer science? 2) As a woman studying film do you think it's possible for a female to be a successful female director and get a job after university/college or not? (like do more than 60% of the women studying film get a job after school?) 3) Is it possible to be a good director without going to university and just do stuff you're on way? (Like for example Quentin Tarantino) That's all Thank you ❤️
this shit's insane. i can't believe it's 2017 and we only really have 2 notable action franchises with female protagonists (Alien, and Hunger Games). i can't understand how Hollywood execs look at their success and think, oh, the public doesn't like female-fronted action films. :( **i'm not sure if this is a disingenuous generalisation though, since we also have Lara Croft, and Charlie's Angels, and Kill Bill... but the fact that I can name all of these off the top of my head is still a problem. because female-fronted action movies are so disproportionately few and far in between when compared to the conventional male hero ones.
Not ever, there was Elektra and Catwoman in the mid 2000s, but (bear in mind I've not actually watched them so I can't say for sure) they were both panned and we haven't really had another since. That said, I really do hope this does well even though I don't care for the DC movies universe at all
Catwoman and Elektra could fall in the anti-hero category instead of superhero. Also, there was Supergirl in 1984. All 3 aren't good and the villain in Catwoman is a sexist caricature of "makeup CEO whose a bitch." Here's to hoping the female supporting cast in WW are well developed characters!
I'm so glad someone has been able to articulate all my thoughts and feelings on a Wonder Woman film in a video. I'm so eager to see a change in the industry- being someone currently enrolled on a filmmaking course aspiring to become a part of the industry, I really think this film and maybe some others (Lara Croft etc) could be a kind of 'make or break' situation for Hollywood at the moment.
3 years ago a UA-cam channel called "ALB in wonderland" released a video called "Wonder Woman casting announced?!" and I HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND you watch that because she says everything you're saying and more in such an adequately worded rant. It's just great. So great that it's stuck with me for 3 years, if that means anything.
This is a brilliant discussion, I hadn't even considered the fact that so much is riding on this film. More of this please, I appreciate anyone talking about gender in our industry.
this is the exact reason I will be going to see wonder woman in the cinema FOR SURE. Like you I don't like the dc films, I didn't watch any of them in the cinema because I know I won't like them. But wonder woman is such a good character and it's so important that she's a woman, that I am compelled to go. I'm honestly not sure if it will be good, but if I can contribute by giving it good figures in the first week then I will do that. (I really hope it's good, I will cry if not)
I've wanted there to be a Wonder Woman film for years now. I remember when I was younger searching on Google to see if there had been one made in the past and being so surprised that there wasn't one. I remember asking my Dad why and then saying to him "Hollywood are missing a trick here." Now that it's finally happening, I'm praying that this film is good. The trailers for this film look good (but then again, so did the other DC trailers), so I'm hoping it will deliver.
I feel like this is very much a wait-and-see kind of deal, but I feel like you laid out the scene perfectly and I just really really hope it turns out well.
People who went to the early premiere of the film praised it and called it "fantastic" "a good combination of fun, seriousness and classic heroism" and "the best superhero-film since TDK", which luckily gives me high hopes!
I really hope wonderwoman does amazing. That way many of the other franchises (marvel im talking about marvel) will maybe start making more interesting and less formulated action-superhero movies.
I'm a 50 year old fat man with high blood sugar and high blood pressure and I am a huge Wonder Woman fan, when I was a kid I use to use cigarette lighters to pretend I was blocking bullets. I use to jump out of trees pretending I was jumping through the air like Wonder Woman. I even made a Wonder Woman costume for Halloween with my grandmother and it was the best Halloween costume of all time I even won two Halloween costume contests at two different parties. It looked just like the WW costume in the 70's TV show season 1 the WWII episodes. I will never forget, for the bracelets I used industrial yarn and thread cones, I cut the cones down to bracelet size and my grandmother and I painted the cones gray and we cut out beautiful red silk stars and clued it on the front of the bracelets with a little red ruby bead in the center of the star, they were amazing, they looked exactly like the bracelets from the 70's WW season 1. Thank you Grandma so much, I love you and miss you. I would give anything if I had photos of this and that costume. If this film fails I will just die, totally fucking die. I love you Wonder Woman.
What really worries me is that according to male driven movie's standard, it does go well. But because it's female-driven, it'll be reported as a failure - something that has happened multiple times before. In any case, encourage everyone to go see it - it's the only way to save future comic book movies led by female characters.
I'm excited about the new Ocean's movie because of who's in it, but I probably wouldn't pay to watch it otherwise. I hate that there's all this pressure to make Wonder Woman perfect that there isn't on all of the other shitty superhero movies that are out there (I see you, Snyder and Whedon, and I do not forgive you). THere's the added pressure of there being a female director, which is so rare for an action film. My fingers are crossed for this movie, and I'm definitely going to see it opening weekend so it gets that box office score that's apparently so important.
firewordsparkler you do realise a lot of pressure is from the fact that the DCEU up till now has largely been trashed by critics right? I think it's more that than the female thing. The average movie goer doesn't even know is or care who directs the films they watch most of the time.
I like that you don't just give us opinions but also facts. Mentioning the trailer for proof is brilliant and looking at the patterns that are forming but that we often don't see unless we have a broad knowledge of hollywood stuff and zoom out to look at the bigger pictures. Such a great, great, insightful, respectful, clever video. Love it.
I completely agree by using females in re-write movies it's also alienating the people who had no interest of that movie in the first place. A lot more people would be interested in seeing a new film that is original and clever and that will take away the writers excuse to limit female representation. Thanks for continuing to make these, always worth watching! 😊
That was really well articulated, Jack, I love how you put the problem. I completely agree that Wonder Woman needs to be good, and I'm worried they're going to focus on/force a romance between WW and Chris Pines' character, which I think would detract greatly from the main action and plot in the film. From what I've seen, they have promise plot-wise. It's just how that story is handled that makes me nervous. But I'm hopeful.
That was a very eloquent way of saying what I assume many people were thinking, as well as shedding light to the areas in the film industry that aren't usually talked about. Thanks for keeping the conversation going. :)
Jack, you should watch albinwonderland's video on this exact topic from a couple of years back. She talks about the fact that the budget for Wonder Woman isn't as big as it would be for batman and superman, because of the risk of it 'flopping', therefore INCREASING the risk of it flopping. Great vid btw!
I really like this content ! I find it really refreshing to see you outside of sketches :) i love them too but also hearing individual videos from you and dean is great ! Thank you 😊
In the last week I have seen endless advertising both in person and online, despite not seeing anything as advertising- I had to go and watch them myself- I hear your worries, and I sure as hell am going to see wonder woman
i have gone on record with my friends that i will not see any future dceu movies if they fuck up wonder woman. i will just give up. wonder woman is (next to the flash) my favourite dc superhero and if they fuck her movie up UGH. i will also probably cry because i get very emotional and i'm really attached to her. soooo... yeah. on another note - i could listen to you talk about movies for hours. you should make a podcast
Don't kill me because I'm really happy with how wonder woman showed up in BvS, mainly because of that soundtrack and theme she has (hans zimmer can make any decent movie feel amazing, even bad ones) but now with her OWN MOVIE im super nervous about the romance but its bloody Chris Pine who already gives such an uninteresting and unoriginal vibe to his character like all of his other characters in all of his movies... if Diana and Steve arent interesting characters that will be the main fall of the movie in my opinion because everything looks cool from the trailers and the one main thing we cant see is if their relationship is original enough and whether they even have strong personalities (nothing i hate more than heroes who are just "noble" and "selfless" in the most unrealistic way possible)
You're totally right about all this. What really sucks is that we have to put the fate of female led blockbusters in the hands of DC. I wanted to be optimistic about Wonder Woman but I'm not really. Being a DC film my expectations were low and then the director said that she didn't think Suicide Squad was bad and that crushed me. I want it to be good but it's hard for me to be excited. I'm hoping Atomic Blonde does well, if that works I think that can be a big step in the right direction.
That was the whole issue with the Ghostbusters remake, it shouldn't have been Ghostbusters. I've seen the original multiple times and liked it, but I don't have a love for it the way a lot of people do. So I was able to enjoy the reboot for what it was, without connecting it to the original, and it was pretty funny, actually it was way funnier than I had expected. It wasn't an amazing work of cinema, but the fact is that if it hadn't been a reboot of a beloved classic, it would have been so much better. So I completely agree, why can't they just accept that an original action movie lead by great actresses would be fantastic and people (men and women) would probably be so happy and excited to see that, more so than another reboot gone wrong simply because it's a reboot and therefore will obviously be compared to the classic? (Sometimes I just need to vent my frustrations... also on the topic of your being "just a white man", I mean yeah I get why people feel this way, but the truth is we live in a shitty world where your opinion is more important than a lot of other peoples' so frankly the more people (that includes anyone) talking about issues like this is great)
When you said "If it doesn't make a billion dollars I don't know if they'll try again" you got me very scared and now I'm considering seeing it just to give them my money even though I have no desire to actually see this film...
1) i think the ghostbusters reboot was amaaaaazing 2) Wonder Woman is coming out on my birthday and i reaaaally hoping it'll be good 3) i love that you're talking about gender and feminism and stuff, it's really intresting and i think that as a cis male it's kinda more important to talk about it cuse lots of people only think females can be feminists!
All of your thoughts in this were spot on. DC has put off making this movie for so long and I think it's because they didn't want to make it at all. They're spending $0 on advertising and promotion and even with the wonders of the internet it's still not as widely known as their other movies. They are essentially setting it up to fail so they can say "I told you so" and have an excuse to never have a female-led movie again. I for one am excited beyond words for this movie and I really hope that it smashes the box office
It's genuinely refreshing to hear you talk about women in the film industry. I'm training to be an actress, and although Hollywood isn't my aim, the same applies for a lot of smaller films, and stage shows too. Not all, but there's a lot of male lead dramas particularly.
I legitimately cry every time I see the Wonder Woman trailer. I'm not sure why honestly possibly due to excitement, but I am terrified the movie will make me cry but not for the same reasons..
I'm now very curious to see how the half Snyder/half Whedon Justice League turns out. Could not find two more diametrically opposed directors. And I hold out hope that the Whedon Batgirl deal locks. It sounds like it could be the perfect thing.
schynder did make a shitstorm of a movie with batman vrs superman, but what he did do pretty well was, imo, keep the characters in line with their og comic book personas, which is something I've rarely seen done in previous films. the wonder woman trailers so far have been very reassuring, as her costume is perfect and her personality seems very in line with how she is in the comics. Personally, I adore wonder woman, she is my favourite super hero and I really hope they do her justice because the casting is perfect and they have all the right resources t make it amazng
At first my reaction to the first poster was "oh no, they've cast someone very slim, what if theyre trying to weaken her by making her look soft and pretty." But the trailers really make me think it might be good, so far I am excited by the aesthetic they've gone for. I do think its silly to randomly create male-female comparison relaunches, yes, but i think it would be so satisfying for something previously occupied by men in peoples minds to go well as a woman's story, if just to make people think about it. There should be more female-centered stories in male-dominated genres
I was in tears watching Wonder Woman. I've always been a fan of superhero films and I knew I'd like Wonder Woman but as soon as the film started I was overcome with emotion that came with relating to a female lead so much and wanted to be her. I'm glad the world is finally changing to my future daughters can grow up in a world where they have characters like Wonder Woman to look up to x
The trailers are honestly looking really really good so my hopes are high! (but then again, the Suicide Squad trailers were brilliant) I really really hope it's great though, I really do
I have a feeling they're going to make her similar to Captain America, strong woman, goes with her own will/beliefs, which is hard to get wrong. But having said that, the character that I know from comics and animated movies has way more layers than that, she's very stubborn and fights recklessly but from what we've seen, she's likely to be the more grounded character
Remember Green Lantern from years ago? It was also the first solo DC superhero movie in years that's not based on Batman or Superman or characters from their lore. It was supposed to kickstart their own cinematic universe to go up against Marvel, which means it had a lot of pressure put upon itself. And we all know what happened with that. I fear that if Wonder Woman fails, worst case scenario would be we never see the character again after Justice League, or the character suffers the same effects Green Lantern had after its first movie.
Wonder Woman doesn't need to make a Billion dollar at the box office You set the bar so high, and then u'll say: oh, it failed! If the movie will do 500M+ it will be a huge win.
So I'm watching this post-Wonder Woman and can I just say... they did f-ing nail it!! Gal was wonderful (no pun intended) and it was just great representation and great score and great movie!
Just have to say that I absolutly freakin' love (like LOVE) to hear you talk about movies! Your passion for films and filmmaking shines thru when you discuss films and it's so infectious in the best way. Agree with you on all counts, loved hearing your thoughts before the movie is released. Thanks for another great vid👍🏻😊❤
Also!!! Jack, please check out The Handmaiden! Not only does it have amazing direction, cinematography and music, but it's also very beautiful and you fall in love with it.
three weeks later, and they fucking nailed it :) I really liked hearing this perspective, and I'm so glad the movie did end up crushing it, since historically studios have used poorly-made female superhero movies (*cough*catwoman*cough*) failing as a reason to not make more films with female leads. It's great that WW had the money, casting, and true effort put in to end up proving that yes, people DO want to see more female superheroes.
People have been calling for a Black Widow movie since the first avengers film, and I personally feel like Marvel are too chicken shit to take on a female led superhero film with nothing to go off. I need an amazing Wonder Woman so I can have my bloody Black Widow !!! ITS 2017 !!!
A well structured video tackling Hollywood's main issues with female leading roles. So many things I thought of but could not really put into words (mainly because my mother tongue is not English). I don't know how to put this eloquently but you have given me (a white, 25-year-old female) definitely a new perspective on things. Thank you, Jack. The world - and especially the film industry - needs more people like you, who are willing to inform/educate themselves and actually talk about these things so we can make movies even better in the future (and hopefully get rid of some reboot ideas in the process). xo
Don't let someone else change your opinion. If you want to see Wonder Woman, go see it. The way I look at it, if you liked the previous DCEU movies, you'll like Wonder Woman. Frankly, I've hated every DCEU movie so far and I really don't like Gal Gadot because she has not been good as a minor character in any movie I've seen, so for her to carry a movie seems like a bit of a stretch. But some people like her--I just don't--which is why I will not see Wonder Woman. But I'm not you. Go see it, enjoy it, but don't be so besotted that you can't see if the movie actually has flaws or not. That is what is hurting DC so much right now--fans refuse to admit the problems it has, so DC has to react to what critics are saying, and that seems to be making things even worse. Here's to hoping Wonder Woman doesn't suck. After all, Zack Snyder has very little to do with it.
i love that you are one of the only men on youtube to talk about things like this i find your ideas and opinions so interesting!
Couldn't agree more!!!

"I am but a white man."
You like Dean's video where he drew you as Cthulhu, don't you Squidward 😏
Emily B I heard 'i am butter white man' the first time oops
For aaages I used to think that the final lyrics of the nursery rhyme Row Row Row Your Boat were "Life is Butter Dream", like the rhyme was just some marketing slogan for a brand of butter...

Dan Pugsley I thought it was "life's a butter dream" too 😂
On the bright side, Atomic Blonde looks fucking incredible
Great video. I'm remaining, probably, naively optimistic. But my god, wouldn't it just be wonderful if the first good DC film in nearly 10 years was female led in both director and cast.

I like to pretend that the catwoman movie never happened. If you feel like cringing, then search for "catwoman basketball scene". UGH WHYYY?!
When's Marvel gonna get on this shit. It's frankly embarrassing that they haven't done anything about this yet.
apparently they're making a captain marvel movie w/ brie larson in 2018/19??? they should have already made one by now though

At this point Jack Howard is uploading more frequently than Daniel Howell tbh it's a beautiful sight to see
That was really well articulated, Jack, I love how you put the problem.
I totally agree with you on the Ocean's Eight thing ... Why do action-heavy female-lead movies have to be remakes of all-male originals....
That was a very eloquent way of saying what I assume many people were thinking, as well as shedding light to the areas in the film industry that aren't usually talked about. Thanks for keeping the conversation going. :)
literally everything you just said, I was like, "YES EXACTLY!" fortunately Wonder Woman ended up being one sick ass movie though.
Absolutely loved this analytical video on the film industry- more please!
deffinetly agree with you. fingers crossed on this movie
Jack, you should watch albinwonderland's video on this exact topic from a couple of years back. She talks about the fact that the budget for Wonder Woman isn't as big as it would be for batman and superman, because of the risk of it 'flopping', therefore INCREASING the risk of it flopping. Great vid btw!
this was e x c e l l e n t
so well said Jack, and thank you for voicing this topic and bringing its importance to light
As always, Jack, you came across articulate and respectful. Thank you.
You should make a podcast with like dean or Bertie or even just yourself where you just talk about films. I could listen for hours
I really like this content ! I find it really refreshing to see you outside of sketches :) i love them too but also hearing individual videos from you and dean is great ! Thank you 😊
love the dean reference
you've just said what i've been thinking for months THANKS
Loving these new videos
In the last week I have seen endless advertising both in person and online, despite not seeing anything as advertising- I had to go and watch them myself- I hear your worries, and I sure as hell am going to see wonder woman
i have gone on record with my friends that i will not see any future dceu movies if they fuck up wonder woman. i will just give up. wonder woman is (next to the flash) my favourite dc superhero and if they fuck her movie up UGH. i will also probably cry because i get very emotional and i'm really attached to her. soooo... yeah.
on another note - i could listen to you talk about movies for hours. you should make a podcast
he makes some really good points here
Don't kill me because I'm really happy with how wonder woman showed up in BvS, mainly because of that soundtrack and theme she has (hans zimmer can make any decent movie feel amazing, even bad ones) but now with her OWN MOVIE im super nervous about the romance but its bloody Chris Pine who already gives such an uninteresting and unoriginal vibe to his character like all of his other characters in all of his movies... if Diana and Steve arent interesting characters that will be the main fall of the movie in my opinion because everything looks cool from the trailers and the one main thing we cant see is if their relationship is original enough and whether they even have strong personalities (nothing i hate more than heroes who are just "noble" and "selfless" in the most unrealistic way possible)
(Sometimes I just need to vent my frustrations... also on the topic of your being "just a white man", I mean yeah I get why people feel this way, but the truth is we live in a shitty world where your opinion is more important than a lot of other peoples' so frankly the more people (that includes anyone) talking about issues like this is great)
When you said "If it doesn't make a billion dollars I don't know if they'll try again" you got me very scared and now I'm considering seeing it just to give them my money even though I have no desire to actually see this film...
jesus christ, this entire video is pretty much exactly what I've been thinking about Wonder Woman
I feel the exact same way. I just really really hope they do a great job, if they do it can be just a door opener for more films like it.
wonder woman has SO much riding on it i hope with all my heart that it doesn't flop
I totally agree with you, let's hope for the best!
1) i think the ghostbusters reboot was amaaaaazing
2) Wonder Woman is coming out on my birthday and i reaaaally hoping it'll be good
3) i love that you're talking about gender and feminism and stuff, it's really intresting and i think that as a cis male it's kinda more important to talk about it cuse lots of people only think females can be feminists!
Your take on things has opened my eyes, honestly i'm going to bring up this view in my film studies class
Honestly I'm so excited for it, I hope it goes well
I FREAKING LOVE THE OCEANS11 series
All of your thoughts in this were spot on. DC has put off making this movie for so long and I think it's because they didn't want to make it at all. They're spending $0 on advertising and promotion and even with the wonders of the internet it's still not as widely known as their other movies. They are essentially setting it up to fail so they can say "I told you so" and have an excuse to never have a female-led movie again. I for one am excited beyond words for this movie and I really hope that it smashes the box office
you just expressed all my thoughts into words. thankyou man
I love hearing your thoughts on these issues
I have been feeling the same way since WW was announced. Thank you for making this.
It's genuinely refreshing to hear you talk about women in the film industry. I'm training to be an actress, and although Hollywood isn't my aim, the same applies for a lot of smaller films, and stage shows too. Not all, but there's a lot of male lead dramas particularly.
how do you word things so well ? I literally agree with everything you said, really hoping it's going to be amazing.
Couldn't have said it better. Thanks Jack !
best DC film to date has got to be LEGO Batman
I legitimately cry every time I see the Wonder Woman trailer. I'm not sure why honestly possibly due to excitement, but I am terrified the movie will make me cry but not for the same reasons..
put into words so fucking well, loved it
you nailed it, this is everything that worries me about this film, i want to be excited but i'm so nervous they'll fuck it up
Oceans 8. They're already trying to set up a movie trilogy. Whoa.
I wholeheartedly agree.
I'm now very curious to see how the half Snyder/half Whedon Justice League turns out. Could not find two more diametrically opposed directors. And I hold out hope that the Whedon Batgirl deal locks. It sounds like it could be the perfect thing.
Yes, jack, i share your concern.
"wOOnda woman"
schynder did make a shitstorm of a movie with batman vrs superman, but what he did do pretty well was, imo, keep the characters in line with their og comic book personas, which is something I've rarely seen done in previous films. the wonder woman trailers so far have been very reassuring, as her costume is perfect and her personality seems very in line with how she is in the comics. Personally, I adore wonder woman, she is my favourite super hero and I really hope they do her justice because the casting is perfect and they have all the right resources t make it amazng
I haven't seen many ads for Wonder Woman either. They aren't advertising it properly. They are pretty much setting it up for failure
Thank You Jack Howard
I'll just be sitting here waiting til you release your "Wonder woman review and RANT" video. Anytime now.
There should be more female-centered stories in male-dominated genres
this is such an interesting, and considered take! This is the first time I've heard it from this perspective, and it makes so much sense too.
The Wonder Woman cameo was literally the only part of Batman v Superman that I enjoyed.
Just keep on preaching Jack 🙌🏻
I was in tears watching Wonder Woman. I've always been a fan of superhero films and I knew I'd like Wonder Woman but as soon as the film started I was overcome with emotion that came with relating to a female lead so much and wanted to be her. I'm glad the world is finally changing to my future daughters can grow up in a world where they have characters like Wonder Woman to look up to x
The trailers are honestly looking really really good so my hopes are high! (but then again, the Suicide Squad trailers were brilliant) I really really hope it's great though, I really do
this is such an articulate, spot on video! thanks jack for addressing this and sharing your thoughts
This video is 85% about Oceans Eleven and 15% about Wonder Woman.
Ugh, you made me rethink my decision to stop giving D.C. my money
Good thing. They fucking nailed Wonder Woman.
I fear that if Wonder Woman fails, worst case scenario would be we never see the character again after Justice League, or the character suffers the same effects Green Lantern had after its first movie.
this was VERY GOOD
Wonder Woman doesn't need to make a Billion dollar at the box office
You set the bar so high, and then u'll say: oh, it failed!
If the movie will do 500M+ it will be a huge win.
So I'm watching this post-Wonder Woman and can I just say...
they did f-ing nail it!! Gal was wonderful (no pun intended) and it was just great representation and great score and great movie!
looking forward to seeing Stan Lee in this one :)
I am subscribed but I want EVEN MORE of that face
three weeks later, and they fucking nailed it :) I really liked hearing this perspective, and I'm so glad the movie did end up crushing it, since historically studios have used poorly-made female superhero movies (*cough*catwoman*cough*) failing as a reason to not make more films with female leads. It's great that WW had the money, casting, and true effort put in to end up proving that yes, people DO want to see more female superheroes.
I bring news from the future. They fuCKING NAILED IT. YOU CAN SLEEP WELL NOW JACK. THEY. FUCKING. NAILED. IT.
The world - and especially the film industry - needs more people like you, who are willing to inform/educate themselves and actually talk about these things so we can make movies even better in the future (and hopefully get rid of some reboot ideas in the process). xo
I never thought about this and now I am sad and v nervous
