Ah, the commercials add to the nostalgia. I remember the miller one with the horse vividly for my childhood! The 70-s an 80's were such a magic time to grow up.
I tended to get mixed up and think it was the Clydesdales for Budweiser.
@@johnmanier7968 you know what? That's how I remember it also. So dont feel bad.
Great time capsule. The commercials and everything.
The Pitt team was very close to a national title in 79 and 80. Loaded with future NFL players and hall of famers.
That Dan Marino kid looks promising!
Pitt used my high school stadium in Phoenix for their practices. They were staying at the Pointe resort and my school was about 3 miles from it.
That game was fun to watch. I was only in junior high. I'm H2P all day 💙🧡🏈
The freshman QB just happened to be Dan Marino. Not your average freshman.
Thank you
"Festa bowl" - Danny Marino 😂
Hahaha. I though he said “festival”. I think Pitt was pissed about being there. They were 10-1 and got stuck in the Fiesta Bowl which was a joke back then. It didn’t become a major bowl until years later
@@patrickthomas8890 Pitt would’ve whomped Alabama they are the real national champions of 79
Hahahahhaha what a joker 😂😂😂
Oklahoma was the real National Champion... They beat undefeated FSU in the Orange Bowl and Bama beat 2 loss Arkansas at large team in Sugar Bowl... lol....The bias AP loved Bear better than Barry...❤
6:58. Love Dan Marino’s 18 year old peach fuzz mustache
This 10-1 Pitt team felt shafted by the bowls and ended up playing a 6-4-1 Arizona team. The Cotton bowl took Nebraska and the Sugar bowl took Arkansas, teams with identical records that were ranked lower. They played uninspired and disinterested all game and squeaked out a win v a marginal AZ team who did play hard that day. Looking back it’s clear that Pitt, a team whose fan base didn’t travel well was pitted v Arizona to get attendance up. That also probably cost them a major bowl. At this time the fiesta was not a major bowl.
Yup... the bowl system has always been about the money. Pitt was screwed the next year as well. What really killed them was not playing ND in '79 and '80. Play and beat ND those years and things turn out a lot different.
@@BlackMan614 ND temporarily dropped Pitt off their schedule after getting roasted in 75 and 76. They didn’t want none. The next year they got screwed again but took it out on South Carolina and massacred them.
@@Biggdoom344 ND didn't drop them. Pitt dropped them. Schedules are made out 9-10 years in advance and Pitt dropped them. Detailed in EJ's book on Pitt football.
They got it even worse the following year. Finishing 10-1 again and put in the Gator Bowl. Their only loss was to a 10-1 Florida State team. Bobby Bowden said that Pitt team was the most talented team he ever beat.
@@jamesfields2916 they lost at Florida st..a top five team in a driving rainstorm. This was so disappointing because they were clearly the best team in the country. Georgia barely beat South Carolina at home..a team Pitt annihilated.
Damn. A 10-1 team vs a 6-4-1 team. What a joke. No wonder Marino looked miserable in his intro. He probably did not want to be there

Two years later Fiesta became a New Year's Day Bowl
Jackie Sherrill never won a Natty. Didn't happen at Texas A&M either

fiesta bowl on christmas day ???
Before January 1st 1982 the Fiesta Bowl was played on Christmas Day or very shortly after. The first New Years Day Fiesta Bowl featured USC vs Penn St.
The Fiesta Bowl was scheduled for Christmas Day for many years as the games organizers felt even if the attendance was a bit lower they could make up for it with a large TV audience. And for many years the Christmas Day Fiesta Bowl w as one of the highest rated Bowl Games on TV.
It was on Christmas from 76 to 79.
Eastern football did not get any respect back then. Just ask Penn State.
