Can confirm the efficiency of silat. I have been a long time student of various Filipino Martial Arts, have been a student of Cikgu Maul Mornie for over 10 years, and student of self defence based Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, training with a private student of Rickson Gracie. I find that SSBD has a way of making everything better.

Coming from a JKD background, silat looks a lot like everything else in combat. Sometimes its very difficult to distinguish

I agree. All the cuts in the video of me teaching, is before I even Started Silat. The throws and takedowns are mush like BJJ, Hapkido, JuJitsu, etc. The striking reminds me of the Kajukenbo (Tum Pai) I did years ago. It also reminds me of FMA.

Never heard of Taiho Jutsu until today, much like (I'm guessing) many people haven't heard of the art of *Hapbaaldo* which is a "lost" Korean martial art that's only been passed on through word-of-mouth, with no books published, no instruction manuals/VHS' /DVD's etc ...

Taiho Jutsu is not very well-known. It was developed for the police in Japan (post-WW-2). The techniques come from Ju Jutsu, Kendo, Aikido, Judo, and Karate. It is basically a style / sub-set of Japanese Jujitsu.

Silat is one of my primary styles.
I have no use for BJJ.
Everything worthwhile I can do with BJJ I can do with Silat and Shuai jiao. Plus my background is heavy into self defense and the Brazilian military rejecting BJJ and the fact that before the UFC the BJJ guys were basically pervs picking up women teaching rape prevention at the Y.
Luckily my instructors were combat vets who had a reputation in cqc in the military.
I was taught Silat by one and Bando by the other.
I then trained with the only available Shuai jiao instructor in Chicago.
    I would recommend silat

Wrong answer. Muaythai/sanda/kickboxing, judo/bjj, boxing and freestyle wrestling. 1 month in any of these will offer you more in self defence than what you do in 5 years (shuai jiao does not have ground work)
Do you know why the military rejects ground fighting?
      1) You're fighting in an army of people against an army of people
      2) You have a gun
      3) Hand to hand is never the primary focus of warfare
      4) Combat in the military is to train many people in a short time frame

Silat is amazing. I did it for years. I’m doing Catch Wrestling now. But I do miss it. Silat with Muay Thai is a hell of a mix. I’ve done it all. I’m good. But I learned hard. My Sifu used to crank us up.

Oh yeah, Silat is awesome and I’m also a Hapkidoist… Awesome combination… I’m about to leave jujitsu also because, it’s too sport oriented …. Awesome !💪🏾

Thanks, I think the Silat/Hapkido crossover makes for a very well-rounded street defense system. I sill train BJJ. It is still extremely helpful in my line of work. I us BJJ all the time. I split my training time.
