    Thanks Kyle. Installing new rollers as you demonstrated was as easy as shown. The new rollers made a huge difference! And doing it myself saved a bunch of $. Almost anyone can do this themselves.

    Good job.
    If you run the top roller to the middle of the top track, you can remove it without bending the track because the top tracks are not braced. Just twist out and push up on the door and it will come right out. One of the other youtube garage roller vids shows how.
    I like how you bent it on the upright section. Most people bend it way too far. Even without a forming tool, you were able to bend it almost all the way back to the original position.

    Hey Nick, taking the hinges off is a good way also. It is just a lot quicker to pop them out of the track as in the video. Usually it takes maybe 3-5 mins to change them all. The top fixture usually is already adjusted from the previous set over rollers. Thanks for the comments, it gives people other options. There is a lot of different ways things can be done, the main thing for people is to do what seems most comfortable. Thanks again for another way.

    Great job! Made the for an easy installation and much quieter. Used 3-1 lube on all the roller selves and hinge joints and what a difference. Took maybe 15 mins ladder to ladder. Thanks for making this safe and easy.

    Garage door was screeching and groaning with every up and down. after watching a couple different diy videos, yours was far and away the most simple and quick method. I purchased a set of 10 13 ball bearing nylon wheels and had a go of it. everything went quick and smooth. now the door runs as smooth and quiet as it did 6 years ago when it was installed.. total cost including wheels was $13.89! sorry I've waited so long to try this. diy'ers don't hesitate to do this. thanks diygaragedoorparts!

    brilliant, absolutely brilliant. Would you also recommend using white lithium grease while doing this?

      Jason Chalanick yes that works pretty well. I usually recommend our gel Lube or you can use 3 and 1 oil

    I'm glad I saw this video. I have a bag of rollers sitting for almost a week because I was too lazy to do it the way with removing all the hinges. This way seems much easier and I will try it when I get home! I am worried about the one on the bottom which has the cable tension. Your video doesnt show any cable on the bottom, will it still be an issue or can it be done the same way?

    Hi Kyle,
    I did not explain it well. The plastic cover of the garage door opener motor was making the noise. When I took that rear cover, the noise was much less. I am going to try lining the inside of the cover with a product called Dynamat to see if it makes a difference. Just did not know the cause of the noise. I read another post that experienced the same after replacing his capacitor (same as mine) and he solved or at least decreased the noise level by using Dynamat lining. JG

      hey Dynamat will definitely help on reducing noise and vibration. Let me know how it goes.

    Are rollers a standard size or do you have to match them to your door?

    Kyle Hogge, If you get this I would appreciate any feedback. I like your video here on changing out the rollers. I tried it myself but I can't get the old rollers to pop out. I have a 20 yr old wooden garage door. Doesn't seem to have much give. And the door is so heavy I can't hold it while trying to pry out the rollers. Thank you. Cheri F

    Thanks, Kyle. Just like you said it was. Track was a little heavier gauge metal...had to use a hammer to tidy up at the end.

    Installed the 10 rollers with ease. I like the quality. The old rollers I had were the original Martins and had cracked which I thought was causing the noisy door opener. Seems like it is the cover itself and can't find a solution nor could I find an answer thru the web. Any clue Kyle? Thanks and will buy stuff from you again. Great video tips.

    • @diygaragedoorparts
      @diygaragedoorparts  10 років тому

      Hey Joey, the cover on what? I am assuming the cap on the inside of the roller. If that is the case you might want to adjust your track width just a little to free up the rollers or you could try some lube on the track bolt heads. Let me know if this helps.

    A note of caution to go with this information. This video is good for showing you how to change the rollers. I even bought the parts DIY Garage Door Parts to do it. However, BE CAREFUL if you have the wires which help raise the door and are attached to these roller hook ups. I'm not sure if they are on all doors, but I have an automatic garage door opener and they were on mine. These were located on the rollers closest to the floor for my set up. That wire has a ton of pressure on it and will come shooting off if you're not careful. This video doesn't touch on that at all. So be cautious. Mine didn't fly off but got jammed in the track. I had to pay a garage door company to come fix it. There went my savings on DIY.

      Hey Dave, sorry that you had trouble with changing your rollers. At the 1 minute mark of this video we do mention that the bottom roller and bottom bracket has tension on it and as long as you hold them panel once you pry the roller out of the track it can't go anywhere. All sectional overhead garage doors have these cables to pull the door up and to keep it from falling to the ground. The way we show in the video will not allow the cable to come off because you are prying in towards the door not away from the door. Sorry that you did have trouble, anytime you get in a bind always feel free to call for support. Thanks

      @daveswitzer785 11 років тому

      diygaragedoorparts Thanks for the clarification. I apologize. I was doing the method where you actually take the hinges off to remove the roller rather than the bending the track back method as you show in this video. The way you show it - it works. The way I did it was a mess.

    Sometimes I just pop it out when it's open unless it's a 16' door. I'm not a fan of this whole bending the crap out of the verticals because steel weakens when you bend it and unless you have a track anvil you can't make that look nice again with just grips or pliers. One good thing is he's replacing those crappy clopay rollers with some good white nylon rollers. The door ends up working so much better. Thankfully my manufacturer doesn't supply those things with any door, even the cheapie ones.

    Great if you took the stupid DIY phone number banner off that covers a quarter of the screen. You can’t even see how to pop it back on the track because that dumb thing is in the way.
