You are the most enthusiastic, most irresistibly charming, and most cheerful music teacher on UA-cam. And the way you break things down to make them so much simpler is astounding. Most teachers I've come into contact with give you tiny bits of information at a time and they seem to be trying to make it more confusing... and they never come back and put the little bits of information they've given you together so it's up to you to connect the dots. Thank you nice lady
do you think one will be able to learn and master reading a score in 6months if practicing 30-60mins a day? and can u really play a music without memorizing and just reading sheet? can i play chords in my left hand instead of notes in the base cleft?
I'm 68 yrs old and have been learning piano for the first time over the last two weeks only and just adore your style. Thank you! You make everything just fun and fanciful...
the most valuable advice I can give as someone who struggled to sight read for ages is to play! the more you read the easier it gets and the quicker you spot the patterns and ideas discussed in this video. you'll build up a bank of mental patterns that appear in each style and you'll learn to not only recognise them but to play them without thought. these tips are really useful but the best way to get the most out of them is to keep reading. good luck!

Do you have a video on the proper fingering when sight reading from the bottom bass clef to the top treble clef? Still confused on when to cross fingers or reposition hand 🤔💯
I can play violin so I’ve learned to read one note at a time . Because of you i am now going to teach myself piano . The bass clef will be a problem but this will help a lot . Maybe I will sound better than on Violin . I’m 74 and started learning music at 64 yrs . I automatically figured out to map out landmark notes . My favorite first not was B . “ B in the middle “
i am 10 and i have lots of fun watching your tutorials till now i was scared of getting sheet music for my favourite songs now i can search for it without wories its faded by alan walker
Maam before 3 yrs my music teacher used to scold and shout at me because i was slow in piano so i stopped quickly.and i started to learn in you tube and i started to see your videos. now i learnt piano with your help . heartly thank you so much uncountable times .you are a beautiful in teaching ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
If only I had a music teacher like you when I was a kid. To say you are "wonderful" would certainly be an understatement ! Stay being our teacher FOREVER please !!
I'm an absolute beginner and last night I was doing the landmark interval trick on my own and thought to myself "I should just go learn the proper way of sight reading, it's easier to form good habits then break bad ones" so here I am watching this video for help and you're teach me the same trick, I love it! Thanks I love your videos
I'm 24 and finally learning how to play the piano after being in choir for 4 years in high school, and I must say I feel like I have learned more in this video about music notes than I ever did in choir class! Thank you so much!
Another little trick that might be helpful to some is recognizing the fact that even numbered intervals are always line-space or space-line. Odd numbered intervals are always line-line or space-space. Remembering this might help some people quickly differentiate, for example, a sixth versus a seventh. Keep up the great videos.
Marvelous. I'm 77 and bought a Korg Pa600 2 years ago. Know chords etc., but am just getting into reading sheet music. I took John Thompson's through 1A lesson book in the 1950s, and love music, but no playing until I also took up bass electric guitar 3 years ago. What a find for retirees with a love for music and the time and desire to want to re-acquaint.
i purchased my first piano sheet music book of one of my favorite artists Norah Jones. i have started deciphering the notes section by section thanks to you! thank you so much for your videos. literally a dream coming true
So, I've been working on getting better at reading sheet music for years. I have games on my phone, I use the acronyms, I practice, but it's been really challenging to get all those note names to stick to my brain and coordinate with my fingers, lol. Every time I've just gone up or down a note because I recognized the interval I'd chide myself and say "that's cheating read the music!" I feel like this video has given me permission to "read" in a different way. I'm excited to incorporate these tips into my practice. Thank you!!! Blessings
Madam you are great, though I have advanced but I skipped little steps. And through your teachings I have retraced my steps. Thank you very much Madam.
This channel has changed my outlook on my past. I have beat myself up for not joining music class due to bullying. I’ll spare you the details, but I had come to assume I would struggle for a long time to learn or understand these concepts. You, Pianote, have shown me so much and I feel like you’ve brought all these classes I missed to me. Its truly the best learning experience I could have asked for. Thank you very much for your time, effort, and knowledge!
I play a keyboard... Yeah I played many songs using ABC notes but I found trouble finding them... Then I decided to check out how to read notations and boom... I can at least read them now... Very slowly but through this video I know I will be able to pro at notation reading... Thank you Pianote
OMG! Thank the heavens above people like you exist! I just love your videos! They are so helpful! I just purchased a piano and I learned so much from watching your videos! Thank you so much!

Wow, you got me reading music! I learnt guitar through intervals, which is THE way to do it and have played for decades to session level but never learn keys. Lockdown is unlocking the piano. So very glad to find a system thats 'intervals for piano' as this just opened the door - immense thanks!
I just ordered an electronic piano (at the age of 40) with the intention of learning on my own and with my 7-year-old son, and watching Lisa's videos I am convinced that we will both be able to effectively learn the basics of playing the piano. What a wonderful teacher!
Awesome! I've been playing guitar for quite a while through brute memorization and by ear. At 67 I started playing piano and wanted to learn how to read sheet music. Apart from eye opening impact from studying music theory, your approach to learning how to read sheet music was almost equally impactful. For me your approach made so much sense and made it so easy to read music I was flabbergasted why it was more difficult before! Now it is so much easier to go from sheet music to keyboard. Thank you!
Not sure why this channel has not 10M subscribers, there is no better content on the entire youtube for learning piano on a better or more positive way, the vibes in her videos and explanations are unmatchable. My best discovery of 2021 or last years easily. Thanks youtube and thanks Pianote for the grind and joy bringing to all us piano fans!
This was very helpful. No thirds, fourths, etc. actually make sense. And I REALLY appreciate you pointing out the flow from the bass clef through middle C to the treble clef. Thanks!
When I watch these videos it feels like im on vacation. The way you break it down, the enthusiasm and the overall positivity that you bring with you is just so damn calming and inspiring. I'll gladly leave a comment here because I know that it will tell the youtube algorithm that I need more of this :-) Thanks for good vibes and for the lovely teaching. Slowly but steadily improving here from cph Denmark :-)
This is how I read it too! Thank you for articulating so clearly! One more landmark note I added to my memory after watching this video: base F. This is going to be tremendously helpful!
I just started reading notes today. I am truly a newbie, but I like my method better than the mnemonics that everyone else uses. I have two sets like every one else for space and then lines. LINES: [F]inal line [D]awning line (It is rising to sunrise) Middle [B] [G]oing up one line above the first line [E]ntering the treble clef SPACES: [E]nding space [[C]losest to top space [A]dvancing to top (It is going up one from the bottom space) [F]irst space on treble clef I guess my whole point is that it is better to know that the notes by looking at that immediately rather than going through a whole list. However, I totally agree that knowing relative positions is very valuable. So, I totally agree with Lisa.
Great video! It’s definitely “a skill” that you need to develop and reach automaticity. It’s not enough to simply “know” these things. I knew how to read music for two years, I knew about intervals, but I never tried to sightread. I always studied and analyzed the piece before attempting to play it. This year I entered a music school and I had to learn to sightread for our sightreading exams. It took me 5 months of frequent sightreading sessions to put these concepts into practice. But I’m so happy with the outcome. I can sight read simple pieces now! Like Grade 1 or something! But it’s a breakthrough for me, because I couldn’t do that before! I could see the notes, understand the intervals, but playing even a simple piece straight away was next to impossible!
My video actually stopped and started buffering....but it paused when you were smiling. Such a happy satisfying smile. Just release a complete piano course on youtube...it would make the world a happy place to live in.
This is so helpful! This is one of the areas where I struggle. Reading music feels like reading Arabic (and I don't know how to read Arabic). I am not learning the piano but I am trying to learn the harp and this is easy to translate for that. I can't wait to get back to it! This video will make is so much less painful for me. Thank you! :)
These videos are revolutionary for me. Sadly I gave up learning as a kid. But my 6-year-old has just started learning piano, so I'm trying to learn as much as I can so I can support him while he practices and learn along with him.
Thank you so much!! I used to be able to read the notes when I was a kid (I scored high in music classes) but now it's 30 years later and I forgot all that and guess what, at the end of the video I was able to read the notes all over again!!! Thank you thank you!
I love you! You're the best piano teacher ever! This is a huge hack to reading notes. I can't read notes but I've been playing by ear all my life. I've hit a wall for the longest and I feel like this has opened up my next chapter! Thank you. You deserve over 1million views!
Very well explained! Beginners get more benefit when a teacher goes at an easy pace without rushing it all. Her charts in red are helpful too! Middle C must be determined from.a.startimg point as done here! Good!!
I'm in love with your teaching, it's so clear and you're so enthusiastic in teaching which I absolutely love... I had a lots of doubt in reading and playing... But after watching your videos I'm kinda clear about it... Thank you so much for making this videos... Not only for me but also you're helping many people who are having hard time in reading notes, have a wonderful day (sorry for my english) !!!
Thank you, although I‘ve been playing the piano for some years I‘m not as good in sight reading. This gave me some new impulses. What I always do for the bass clef notes is see them like in treble clef and move them down a third. This is obiously only for the note names and not the height, and I don‘t know if it‘s the best way.
You are having special gift God gave you .am 50 yes old never read or play piano before. BUT for 2wks amable to do something . May I continue with you lessons ..bye
Haven't learned sheet music since I was n middle school. Needed a refresher and this helped so much. Transferring my knowledge from the other instruments I have learned. "By your powers combined, I can finally remember how to play." Lol
Lisa and Pianote, this is probably the best lesson I've received in basic music theory. I guess it helps that I love the channel anyway haha. Thanks to the two videos I've watched so far, I was able to sight read the example you gave us at the end.
This is great! I've naturally started using landmark notes but felt like I wasn't learning properly so I kept running the acronyms through my head trying to get the notes to stick. I'm so glad to see you say that I'm not going crazy but normalizing reading notes. Thank you for that! I feel more confident in my skills now!!!
I just started learning the piano and if I have any success, you get the credit, you present the information clearly and your enthusiasm is infectious, Thanks!
Thanks! I've been working on studying and recognising notes on a music sheet and naming it literally on the music sheet, e.g. C4, E4, A3.... etc, before I actually play the notes on the keyboard. Now I can mix what I'm doing with your "cheat codes" to make it even easier to sight read! However, I have also learnt that some left hand/right hand combinations may be written on the same bass clef as in Hanon's practice sheets! Took me a while to figure that out!
Awesome lesson as usual. Loved the intervals part. So happy to be a Pianote lifetime member. Best choice I made to have you as my teacher. Thank you Lisa and team.
After viewing several videos, this is actually the first one which emphasizes that the treble and the bass cleff are connected by the middle C. Great explanation.
Wow, learning to read sheet music for 6 months now with frustrations and this makes things so much easier when learning to play a piece late at night when I'm tired lol.
That was a great lesson and refresher for me. I am a singer and remember most of this music theory from high school but am about 7 years removed. I look forward to watching you videos more!
oh wow!! I'm stepping into "mature" age and never played piano, so I just got myself a great birthday present. I had some music education in school as I sang in chorus but that was so long ago. I could figure out simple melody with right hand but was hopelessly lost with base. This video lifted mystery and fear. Thank you so much!!!
I love this soooo much! Thank you for giving of yourself to teach! You are an outstanding teacher. You are by far THE MOST effective and fun teacher I have found online. You don't move too fast. You build our confidence and make us believe we can do this. I cannot thank you enough. Seriously!!
I'm sure you are like one the coolest person to meet in real life. So sympathetic, enthusiastic but still in a modest way. Thank you for all these videos!
Very good video, really helpful. Just a friendly tip for your voice audio, you need a limiter or compressor on your voice to control your voice going very soft to loud since you’re very animated (which is great) but jumps in volume a lot on headphones.
I've just started piano and struggled to figure out where the low C was in the bass clef although I memorize the position of high C. But your video gives me an inspiration. It you assume the middle C as a mirror, the low C is the reflection of high C in the treble clef.
Thank you very much for your lessons, you make learning fun and easy. One thing that I'm struggling with right now is knowing when to move my hand, vs when to just move my fingers. Ie in this lesson, at around 14:30, you moved your hand to a new position. How /when did you know to do this? I'd love it if you created a lesson speaking about this in detail. Thank you again for your great piano lesson videos. 🎹🎼🎵
@@jaleenmorris9221 Yes, but if you watch a little earlier at 14:20 the same note was played with the pinking and the hand didn't move! So sometimes you need to know to move the hand, and other times you know to leave the hand where it is, and just use the finger that is above the note. That is the part that I need practice on as I don't know when to identify when to move my hand, and when it is okay to leave it where it is.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Nobody did it as simple and enthusiastic as you did. I thought i would never be patient enough to get it and then this channel appeard. THANK YOU!!!
Thank you. This was really useful. I had already started to use a couple of the techniques before I saw this BUT I thought, "No that cheating - it can't be the right way". You have really helped me and my confidence.
Ok, you have taught me so much today! I was feeling overwhelmed because I thought I needed to know the notes. I play a few songs since yesterday. Mostly by guessing the notes, didn’t realize that’s considered “site reading” a good thing. Thank you!
I just found your amazing channel! I am a guitarist of over 20 years and for the second stage of my life, my goal is to learn piano. This information is a godsend for me and it's done in such an approachable way. Thank you for existing! :)

I love this video. I’m so glad you explained about the landmark notes because I always hated those acronyms. They always confused me! Thank you!
Thanks Sam and Lisa for putting this on here as well, was able to come back to it today.
Ma’am-you are a fantastic teacher! 👏🏼 Thank you!
You are a GREAT teacher! I love the way you present these lessons!
Thank you for caring so much! I am learning SO much just watching your videos. :)
Thank you so much ! Merry Christmas!
As an almost 50 year old who just decided to learn the piano, I really appreciate your channel.
You got it! We will accept half of your Grammy Award!
I love this video!!!!!
Very glad to hear!
Awesome lesson as usual. Loved the intervals part. So happy to be a Pianote lifetime member. Best choice I made to have you as my teacher. Thank you Lisa and team.
🙏🙏🙏🙏 We are so happy to have you aboard
Something finally made sense and "clicked" in my head.
Great Teacher. No doubt. Bless You.
Thank you so much. God bless you and your family.
After viewing several videos, this is actually the first one which emphasizes that the treble and the bass cleff are connected by the middle C.
Great explanation.
The best sign reading lesson for beginner so far
Sight reading
Wow, learning to read sheet music for 6 months now with frustrations and this makes things so much easier when learning to play a piece late at night when I'm tired lol.
Thank you, teacher!
After 72 years the entire sight reading thing now makes sense! This is the most effective music lesson ever! Thank you
That was a great lesson and refresher for me. I am a singer and remember most of this music theory from high school but am about 7 years removed. I look forward to watching you videos more!
You are an excellent teacher!
Well done!!!
@Soulful Notes Thank You!!
Seriously!!
just started self learning and this has got to be the best note reading lesson
I'm sure you are like one the coolest person to meet in real life. So sympathetic, enthusiastic but still in a modest way.
Thank you for all these videos!
Thank you so much for publishing these short videos.
I play guitar and I plan to learn the piano. These short videos are encouraging.
Thank s again!
It's nice to review your past lessons. It's much clearer now.
Your such a good teacher
This was incredibly helpful. Reading notes makes so much more sense now. Thank you!
Very good video, really helpful. Just a friendly tip for your voice audio, you need a limiter or compressor on your voice to control your voice going very soft to loud since you’re very animated (which is great) but jumps in volume a lot on headphones.
You are amazing! Thank you for your efforts!!
Your style, expression and cuteness really touched my heart ❤ and I'm really love you from my depth heart.
The following note is G; so she remembered her Landmark note and just moved her hand!
The positive vibes in your videos make this much easier to under stand. Love the idea of landmark notes
Hi Lisa, Love your lighting in the video!!! Keep up the great work! Best, Albert
I really love your way of educating piano.
i was also taught FACE; Every Good Boy Does Fine, etc... but this is just an easy way to do the sight reading. Thanks for sharing your learning.
Lisa, you're awesome. Love your enthusiasm.
Great video. Thank you very much 🎼🎹🎶❤
