  • Arm knit, hand knit, finger knit, potato, potato. Whatever you want to call it, it's NOT knitting with needles, so throw those away. This is basically how to knit anything with huge yarn. A huge scarf. A huge blanket. Gloves? Socks? Go for it!
    Keep in mind you can use any type of yarn for this, as long as it's thick.

    A little late to the party but I found this tutorial and decided to try it. I’m now halfway through making a blanket for my king sized bed. This is actually my very first knitting project I’ve ever done and I love how it looks so far and I’m so proud of it. This tutorial was so helpful, informative and simple

    I have watched numerous other videos online and also gone through the step by step directions trying to understand how to make this blanket, and after several hours of failed attempts trying to reproduce what I was seeing on the videos, and step by step directions that only confused me further, feeling totally disappointed I was ready to give up when I saw your post, thinking I was probably wasting my time, I clicked on it. I am so happy that I took the time to watch yours, it was straight forward and easy to understand. Thank you so much!!!

    Hey there! Thanks a lot for your content. I stumbled upon it today as "videos you might like" on my feed.
    Personally I do more crochet stuff. But your videos are really awesome and I got a pair of needles to try knitting. So thanks for feeding my yarn addiction. 😜

    Thank you so much for this video. After trying a few others, as a complete novice, I felt like this was just impossible for me. But your video and seeing you lay it out on a surface was amazingly helpful. My first project is complete: a super cozy blanket for my dog :)

    These look great and your instructions are super clear. Thanks. In terms of the blanket you appeared from under at the start, how much wool did you use? I’ve seen balls of 500g, 1kg and 4.5kg

    This video is great and you have a really soothing voice! I just found your channel as I’ve decided to take up knitting while in quarantine haha. This looks like it would be such a fun project, out of curiosity, where did you buy this really thick yarn/wool from?

    • @agemoth

      Try ebay, I think I've seen it on there.. Or you could try Amazon.. I'm sure it's VERY expensive though!!

  • @cameronallmon
    @cameronallmon 5 років тому +2

    I found your videos today after getting inspired to learn how to knit and this looks like something that would be great considering I was just saying I needed a new blanket. I wanted to ask though, everything was very clear except it one thing I was a little unsure of. At 7:30 you say that you don't need to worry about the last loop you made when starting the new row but at 8:30 it appears that you start the new row by going through the last loop you made on the row before. Is this simply a matter of depending on which side you are on or am I mistaken in my observation? Like I said I am a complete noob at knitting, I've never even touched needles because I have yet to go buy any lol

    • @RJKnits
      @RJKnits  5 років тому +2

      Very astute observation! Honestly, the jury's still out on whether you need to go over this last loop or skip over it and pick it back up when you're coming back (if that makes sense). With this blanket, I think I ended up doing a mix of both... sometimes picking it up, sometimes skipping it, and I found that it made no huge noticeable difference. But I'm sure arm knitting purists will have something else to say!

    • @cameronallmon
      @cameronallmon 5 років тому

      @@RJKnits Okay cool I appreciate your response! I went and got some yarn to try this today but couldn't find anything nearly as thick as you were using. I also made the rookie mistake of not realizing I would need about 7 of them and only got 1 haha

    • @cameronallmon
      @cameronallmon 5 років тому

      @@RJKnits if it's not too much to ask could you tell me how I would join in new yarn doing this? I have found videos about joining when you're using needles but I'm not sure how to translate it to this method. I ended up really enjoying this once I got a groove going and would love to get to continue on for a full size blanket once I buy more yarn

      I’ve been wanting one of these chunky knit blankies for way too long. The yarn seems pricey but if I am comforted by daily, well then, worth my time and new effort. I searched maybe 25 vlogs and yours seemed too speak too me :)- thanks so much.
      Where do you get your yarn 🧶
      I was just gifted two bags of very decent yarns some Merino Some Suoer kid mohair and more: I need the chunky knit. Decided maybe I can make my own?

    I don't know why.... but seeing the chunky yarn as a strand is really disturbing me.... It's fine once it's knitted up.... but it just looks.... gross or wrong or something else totally irrational to be thinking about a fine piece of yarn.
    Lovely tutorial, I always wondered how to do arm knitting, even though I know how to knit with needles. (I came to get a refresher on cables and while checking to see if you are still active this video caught my eye)
