In this video I show you how to replace a 97-03 F-150 steering wheel. The process is pretty easy and straightforward if you have the right tools. This should apply to 2004-2008 and 1996 and older trucks as well, and likely other models like the Crown Vic, etc.

I loved the way he kept going with the torque wrench after it clicked.
THEMOWERMEDIC1 THE SMALL ENGINE SPECIALIST good catch. The torque range is a little higher than I set my torque wrench to so I think it will be fine anyway. Given the choice I’d rather have it a little too tight than a little too loose. It hasn’t fallen off or come loose yet 😉
this is great thank you i have a 99 f150 and my steering wheel needs replacing now i know it can be done its worth it to rebuild then buy a new truck i love my f150 and it has 180000 on it but runs like new and rebuilt tranny and front end and all breaks and calipers gona put some new paint on it hay 10000 into it it is way better then 400000 ya know it seems most people are getting 300,000 mls out of their f150 great trucks
These older trucks can last nearly forever if maintained! 👍

I have a question: is it possible to take a king ranch searing wheel from a Ford Excursion/F-250 (the one that has cruse control as well as volume and A/C controls on it) and put it onto a F-150? i.e. is the wiring harness the same and would the controls for the volume and A/C still work
I believe the wiring is different, I think it would be pretty involved to do such a swap. It would be cool though to be able to do that swap.
You can try a 2007 to 2014 and 2015 to 2017 expedition seats in a obs 1997 to 2002 f150 they both share the same body.
The puller tool you are using is not the one you have posted in the discription.
im about to do this job also on my king ranch but id like to replace the airbag as well but i can't seem to find it online anywhere. I do see the black xlt versions but no tan

I recommend you check eBay for a good used one. You can still get these new but they are spendy $$

Do you happen to know what i should replace my steering wheel is wobbly like the center bolt is loose or something, this happened beacuse I havent replaced my lower column and is binding already, thanks
If your bolt is tight then the problem is probably with the bearings inside the column, or the U-joint down lower.
Note 97 98 and some very early 99's will have blue buttons instead of green
I've been trying to find a steering wheel for my 2002 f150 it's the same as the one in the video down to the very color, where did you buy yours cuz I can't seem to find any online or most junk yards that I checked? Can a new model steering be used?

What year is your F150 King Ranch? I have a 2001 Expedition Eddie Bauer...and I must admit, both interior dash/console set up is almost identical....I am curious if the replacement wheel would be compatible with the 01 Expedition? Great Video tutorial though....
Your steering wheel buttons may be different but the procedure is the same. Mine is ‘03.

Anyone know if the xlt steering wheels (the ones with cruise control buttons) will work on an xl trim truck with a steering wheel with no cruise buttons? It’s okay if the buttons don’t function I’d cut the wire, but that king ranch leather looks nice hehe matches with the tan I have.

Another easy way of pulling the weeel without a pully is to put wd40 and wiggle it till pups up, i have done lots of steering wheels that way.
The f-150s are always so easy. The standard puller is useless because there are no holes to thread bolts of a puller. He shows two different pullers, then goes to a third one that is barely even shown, but already installed before he finally pulls the steering wheel! This guy should not be working on anyone's car.

Krypticate No! An alignment is the fix for a steering wheel that isn’t centered. Take it back and get them to fix that for no extra cost.

If you try to take the wheel off and turn it there's no guarantee it will be straight when you're done.

Whoever did the alignment on your truck is a fuckin idiot.. take it back or somewhere else and have it fixed.
You should unplug the battery before unplugging the airbag to prevent a phantom charge from setting off the bag in your hand. (seriously) It only takes 5volts to discharge it.

+henry ford I got it from Auto Nation Ford. All in with tax and shipping it was about $660 Canadian.

@@224chingon My OCD wouldn't let me LOL the covers that go over it wouldn't be nearly as smooth when installed, it would be bulky in spots.

I know the body of a obs 1997 to 2003 ford f150 is the same as the 2003 to 2006 expedition, 2007 to 2014 expedition, and 2015 to 2017 expedition. Parts like the fronends can fit.
Where did you purchase your heavy duty puller?
I borrowed it but you can buy one at many places like Harbor Freight, Princess Auto, Amazon, etc.
Yes, I checked out those places prior to posting my question, but they didn't have the exact same one you used on video which is the one I'm hoping to purchase. Can you find out brand or model/part number? It would be of tremendous help in order to narrow down my search for that product. The feature I like about that particular puller is that it can convert to a 2 jaw puller. Thanks!

Marking the wheel is useless as it will only go on in one spot anyways due to the clock spring underneath it.
