NS has bought new Alstom Corradia Stream (Intercity Nieuwe Generatie) trains which will run the former Fyra route. They only run 200 km/h compared to the 250 km/h Fyra, but hopefully they will actually be reliable.
@@OntarioTrafficMan It's really unfortunate since the HSL allows for trains to run at 300km/h nearly all the way Schiphol - Antwerp. The Thalys (with a 300km/h top speed) saves about 35 minutes compared to the current IC Direct (top speed 160km/h) on most scheduled departures. If all the trains had a higher top speed that would probably allow for better scheduling and even faster services, especially for Amsterdam-Rotterdam.
How would you compare these with the ETR610 or an ETR4XX (as that is probably the direct comparator)? The ETR610 is amazing on the outside, but (like you), I found the ride problematic, and the interior not comfortable (for instance, there was a bin where I wanted to put my knee). Although the seats in the UK Pendolino are horrible, the ride has been much better than the ETR610, so I was left quite disappointed, as I had been really looking forward to the ETR610. I haven't been on an ETR4XX. Apart from the noise, the ETR700 looks like a really nice environment, and it seems alot smoother than the Pendolino. And to the V250 haters- it got to its end destination without falling apart or catching fire- what more could you ask?!!! I think it will be interesting to see how much life Trenitalia gets out of them. Amazing when you realise they first started building these trains in 2004, so some are over 15 years old, but have only just started being used in regular service!
Apparently, it wasn't all AB's fault for the Fyra failure - AB did accuse SNCB/NS for running the trains incorrectly in cold/icy conditions. It's sad to see the technical problems of this train still haven't been fixed, though. Nice video! :)

Another debacle of the Dutch railways, after the fyra, after the intercity alstom, just in these days the railways of the Netherlands, NS, have released a very harsh statement against Infraspeed, the company that built and must maintain the infrastructure of the HS line. The reason is easy to say, the high-speed line has "dramatic" speed limits because it has a lot of problems. The company writes: "NS considers it unacceptable that the operator Infraspeed must again impose a speed reduction on the high-speed line (HSL). The railway line, designed for a maximum speed of 300 kilometers per hour, in several places has maximum speeds as low as 120 kilometers per hour. From Wednesday the speed will be further reduced to 80 kilometers per hour in five places due to construction cracks discovered in 2022. Obviously in this case too it is Ansaldo Breda's fault! A railway company run by incompetents!
I'm sorry but the Belgians have no right to complain here, they wanted an etr500/1000 for the price of an intercity and they got it. If i ask a contractor to build an olympic pool in my garden for the price of a regular house pool i can't complain if it has problems.
The story if the Fyra reminds me of a story that goes almost the same, of a train I Denmark the IC4 also build by… you guessed it, AnsaldoBreda. That train was also, as you might know, plagued by technical issues and delays, although I do not know if DSB sued AnsaldoBreda 🤔
Madrid's metro also bought trains from AnsaldroBreda and...well, their traction motors had a tendency to fall to the tracks. They are a maintenance nightmare.
HOWEVER AnsaldoBreda is no longer exist because HITACHI has absorb it and change it's name to HITACHI RAIL ITALY And their (Hitachi ITALY) seem to be look quite well.
I just rode on one of these when I was in Italy and it wasn't bad. I didn't notice the noise and the doors worked lol. Maybe it's just my low American rail expectations but I don't think I would've thought anything of the train if I didn't know from before.
milan it’s fuller of hidden gems, at first sight it’s quite normal to think it has a few things to offer. do you know that i live in milan since i was born and i discovered some beauties of this city only this year? hahaha
I think there are going to enough Dutchies like me and Belgians who are curiously going to watch this video :-). Good that they managed to get it working properly eventually!
Thanks for the review, Thibault. Altough the train still isn't perfect (and sometimes encounters problems - which has been shown in trip reports from others), it's nice to see it hasn't been scrapped. Shame the problems could not be resolved (for whatever reason) when it was running in Belgium/The Netherlands.
You are talking about the little red/green indicators for brake status, right? Here in spain lots of trains have those as well, although mostly useless because they always end up covered in graffiti paint 🤦♂️
The sensors of the automatic doors are all subject to breakage sooner or later, for this reason on almost all trains in Italy, the doors between the carriages all have the opening and closing buttons. The only remaining problems on this train are two: one the furnitures. I admit that the chairs are not exactly comfy. And two: the biggest problems: the low number of toilets!!!! Imagine this: a man suddendly has an urgency...then he need to run between carriages. And pray all the Saints in Heaven that: 1) the bathroom is not broken, 2) the bathroom is free :DDDDDDD Really a bad bad bad choice here, especially for a long travel between two cities.
the Dutch railways are notoriously shit (no pun intended) at toilets in trains. Many of their 'koploper' long distance intercity sets only have 1 (!) toilet per EMU, or at most two. VIRM sets have 1 toilet every other or even every third carriage, and they use double-deck cars. Then there's 'Sprinter' commuter services that have no toilets at all. BlauwNet(Keolis) rides regional services between two major cities with no long-distance-train alternative (Zwolle, Enschede) where the journey takes over an hour, and they use FLIRT's that have 1 toilet that is practically always broken down to the point that they instructed their personnel to allow people in the conductor's compartment to take a leak if necessary. It's laughable. Point being, I bet the Dutch Railways just asked the FYRA designers to not put many toilets in, Dutch train travellers are primed to expect nothing, not drink anything before and during a long train journey already so they could just get away with this as well.
In the original project, this train was supposed to cover the Brussels-Amsterdam section in about an hour and a half, almost as if it were a fast metro. The dutch specifications therefore envisaged few toilets in favor of more places. Trenitalia has not been able to change this aspect, although I think it has some ideas about it. However, on the Milan-Venice section, the train is adequate, because it is a two-hour journey, which would be the work for which it was designed
Although I’m glad we’re replacing them with higher quality Coradia streams, I am quite sad that the speed from the trains will be downgraded to 200kmph compared to the Fyra which could do 250kmph
True, but it also means the train will be a lot lighter and quicker, making it convenient to use them for domestic 140 km/h services too. With a heavy and long train it would be way less convenient
im italian and I think that the italians are the best designer and mechanical in all europe. if we dont' have the problem like corrumption, problem in the factory and no money I think that we will the best in all europe with our engineers; the other countries go forward because we sell to them our ideas and our skills. another example is alfa: if alfa didn't have economically problem in the 70s probably they would sell a lot of car now; alfa in the 70s have the best mechianical technique in the world but fiat ruined all.
Such a shame it failed here in Belgium... To this day in my opinion I still think this train is one of the prettiest trains pit there, especially in the white livery...
I saw one of those Frya's when I was going from Rotterdam to somewhere, can't remember where,a few years ago when I was in the Netherlands little did I know they wouldn't be there long!
only a few Fyra trains were eventually repaired. Unfortunately, we still have no successor in the Netherlands and then I wonder whether the trains could not have been completely fixt here.
The electrical noise kind of reminds me of this noise, though I don't think we had this on the high speed portions! ua-cam.com/video/58h6cxqSBLE/v-deo.html
Its not the FYRA experience I used to have when working on these trains. The bolts of the light fixtures flying around your head, loud bangs from the roof when entering a tunnel, random odd emergency brakes when flushing a toilet…. Yeah great stuff. Opened a bottle of champagne when they were banned to operate.
Well, I think this train doesn't have much potential and I assume it won't last long. It has neither the speed of Freccia 500/1000 (300 km/h) to make the full use of the new lines neither the tilting ability of the standard Pendolino (which is also 250 km/h enabled) to negotiate better the curves of old lines (when finished, Milano - Venezia will be a 300km/h line if I'm not mistaken). It won't become very popular if the seats are uncomfortable (it's worth mentioning that the seats in the 4th class on Freccia 1000 are perfectly comfortable) and if we add other flaws like annoying noise (lack of insulation or simply bad design?) and mechanical flaws (doors, toilets, missing outlets etc) I see no big future for this train. As to the design of the nose, yes, it's ugly and the comparison with Multipla is quite appropriate, but I think that there's a historical reason for that (just my 2 cents): I believe that it was a "retro" attempt to make it look similar to the Dutch trains of the 1960s-1970s, which were nicknamed "Doghead" and "Monkey Head" (and if I remember well, Belgians had similarly shaped locomotives at the time).
Well it makes for Trenitalia to use this rolling stock up until it last while waiting for the etr 1000 orders to fill up its fleet. After that there may be some place in the Adriatic line, in the connection to Slovenia and down south in Sicily
I had a copy of the original report by the Dutch train maintenance shop that assessed this train 10 years ago. Sadly i don't have it anymore, but it was devastating. I tried to photograph a Fyra from Amsterdam to Brussels in the last week of 2012 on the Dutch-Belgium border near Breda, I was freezing my b*tt off, and it drove by so fast (then) that i didn't have time to focus properly. Alas, a week later the service was discontinued, the only photo i have of it is one of several trains standing in a marshalling yard somewhere near Amsterdam, waiting for better times.
AnsaldoBreda was taken over by Hitachi and some of the IETs for the UK were built there. There still seem to be the same issues with build quality, though hard seats 💺 seem to be universal these days. Interior noise levels didn't seem too bad apart from the hum from the transformer (which would presumably only affect the pantograph coach), though, and ride quality seemed to be reasonably good
The court in the end put the blame not on AnsaldoBreda but I'm the companies for not teaching the personelle how to manage and maintain the trains Basically, AnsaldoBreda was relieved of charges
hey there if ur gonna come to the USA number 302 and 301(ALC-42 engines the newest on the fleet for Amtrak) is leading the empire builder it already had it's inaugural run
Personally never took the ETR700 but living in Italy and travelling often by train I saw them few times and every time I can't stop thinking how ugly they are! Prefer by far the ETR600. Also from June 2022 the frecciargento services are suppressed, all trains will go under frecciarossa services.
I arrived in Europe (in Brussels) on January 18, 2013 and I still remember there was a LOT being said about this train. I'm so glad I paid the extra $$$ for Thalys to go to Amsterdam that day. That said, Thalys was also a disaster when I took it to Paris from Amsterdam a few days later due to minor winter weather and a train that didn't show up. It was, however, memorable because I got to travel in the small "meeting room" compartment at the very back of the train - sitting next to none other than Judith Sargentini - an EU MP. A Karen who was assigned to my seat tried to make me move, but because seat reservations were suspended as a result of the issues, she was told to sit elsewhere. It was also bad because of a 160 km/speed restriction, which meant it took around 6 hours to make the trip.
It seems beautiful but it sounds awful! It's like you said, someone is having a hair cut or the "plane" is falling. Let's hope it gets better with time, crossed our fingers on that.

They also have many problems but at least they dont fall apart on their own.
@@stocks_9750 no the replacement trains are slower.
@@stocks_9750 Dude, the ETR700 is shit.
Though it is not really an aerodynamic design, I like that unique, front of a car like nose design..
Sad that the fleet was not so successful…
Apparently, it wasn't all AB's fault for the Fyra failure - AB did accuse SNCB/NS for running the trains incorrectly in cold/icy conditions.
It's sad to see the technical problems of this train still haven't been fixed, though. Nice video! :)
4:00 the hilarious external design of the train (shaped as a duck/dutch face)
was explicitly required by the initial Holland railway authorities
the designer Pininfarina just renamed it "Albatros"
TRES bele video je kiffe tre beau train italien
I hardly ever see you complain, so this was probably even worse than it looked. Sorry you got stuck in the bathroom - what a mess. I hope your next trip is an amazing one
The 1000 looks good bacause it was bombardier that have made the train with AnsaldoBreda .
A railway company run by incompetents!
the thing looks like a car
Strange…..why can AnsoldoBreda make this time the train in good working order ?
What is it with trains these days having concrete for seat padding? Every new train seems to go that way.
I think I understand the criticsm, this is probably the worst high-speed train I've seen for a long while
Ding ding! I'm a tram and I approve this video!
I'm sorry but the Belgians have no right to complain here, they wanted an etr500/1000 for the price of an intercity and they got it.
If i ask a contractor to build an olympic pool in my garden for the price of a regular house pool i can't complain if it has problems.
Probably the train is not top quality in terms of comfort, but it has not yet had significant safety problems, so make two considerations...
HOWEVER AnsaldoBreda is no longer exist because HITACHI has absorb it and change it's name to HITACHI RAIL ITALY
And their (Hitachi ITALY) seem to be look quite well.

I just rode on one of these when I was in Italy and it wasn't bad. I didn't notice the noise and the doors worked lol. Maybe it's just my low American rail expectations but I don't think I would've thought anything of the train if I didn't know from before.
Multipla was a Fiat Model like a SUV of the 90´s
Nice Video!
I think Milan as a City is not the coolest, but the station is just great. Best one in Italy!
Nah its ugly
Milan is a tipically "love at the second sight-city" - it offers much hidden treasures even if it isn't a flawless beauty.
milan it’s fuller of hidden gems, at first sight it’s quite normal to think it has a few things to offer. do you know that i live in milan since i was born and i discovered some beauties of this city only this year? hahaha
I think there are going to enough Dutchies like me and Belgians who are curiously going to watch this video :-). Good that they managed to get it working properly eventually!
Coach 1 noise free.
The Multipla: An ugly but practical Fiat
I traveled one time with this train when it was from NS in the Netherlands and there where these grey doors !
I get to do this trip in July when we go from Paris to Milan and then Venice. Looking forward to it.
And Switzerland 🇨🇭
Train sounds like a microwave lmao
Vous avez raison! Le nez du ETR700 ressemble le Fiat Multipla!
That noise ruins the whole trip for me.
This train nose looks just like a van lol
4:31 You can still see the brakecheck-indicator. I don't know if its mandatory in Europe. But here in the netherlands it is..
You are talking about the little red/green indicators for brake status, right? Here in spain lots of trains have those as well, although mostly useless because they always end up covered in graffiti paint 🤦♂️
@@osasunaitor Yup!
@@BubblesBub434 Oh my...really? I thought that the ETR 700 case for the number of toilets was unique.
Fyra was such a massive fail by NS (Dutch Railways) , still NS sucks hard, trying to get better, but can’t manage to release new trains
im italian and I think that the italians are the best designer and mechanical in all europe. if we dont' have the problem like corrumption, problem in the factory and no money I think that we will the best in all europe with our engineers; the other countries go forward because we sell to them our ideas and our skills. another example is alfa: if alfa didn't have economically problem in the 70s probably they would sell a lot of car now; alfa in the 70s have the best mechianical technique in the world but fiat ruined all.

Very nice and beautiful ❤️❤️❤️
I have a bad news, no more Frecciargento and Frecciabianca, all rolling stock are going under Frecciarossa
Was that ship at Fincantieri a Leonardo class cruise for Norwegian Cruise Lines?
Yes it's Norwegian Prima.
I saw one of those Frya's when I was going from Rotterdam to somewhere, can't remember where,a few years ago when I was in the Netherlands little did I know they wouldn't be there long!
David Goodenough is THE projet chief of this train ! you should know that !

only a few Fyra trains were eventually repaired. Unfortunately, we still have no successor in the Netherlands and then I wonder whether the trains could not have been completely fixt here.
Update the etr 700 was transformed from frecciargento to frecciarossa
Great video! Though I think the nose of the train is still quite ugly, the whole thing looks so much better in that smart Trenitalia livery.
That's one ugly looking train.
Lol, emergency brakes when flushing the toilets, really??? XD
that is why when tracks are covered in snow dutch trains do not run?
The sound is like a jet engine
I took the Frecciarossa on this route back when they had food at the cafe. It was quite tasty.

As a Belgian (and railroader with SNCB) I still get goosebumbs from the word Fyra 😂😂
Are you involved in pedophily or was abused by your parents when a child?
Honland trains workers are better like vetrine workers, belgian involved in pedhophilie..
That ugly front sure reminds me of that ugly Multipla
Hope the at seat service sold ear plugs.
I would get a migraine listening to those train sounds!

AnsaldoBreda was taken over by Hitachi and some of the IETs for the UK were built there. There still seem to be the same issues with build quality, though hard seats 💺 seem to be universal these days. Interior noise levels didn't seem too bad apart from the hum from the transformer (which would presumably only affect the pantograph coach), though, and ride quality seemed to be reasonably good
The problem was just this kind of trains they made and still are making great trains such as frecciarossa 1000 and other great regional trains
Thank you Mr Simply!
Amazing.
These are maybe the only breda product that actually sucks
I would always pick ITALO for this route - the ATR is so much better and the staff couldn't be more friendly and obliging.
As a cheap semi-high-speed train, it is GOOD!
The court in the end put the blame not on AnsaldoBreda but I'm the companies for not teaching the personelle how to manage and maintain the trains

Personally never took the ETR700 but living in Italy and travelling often by train I saw them few times and every time I can't stop thinking how ugly they are! Prefer by far the ETR600.
Also from June 2022 the frecciargento services are suppressed, all trains will go under frecciarossa services.
Seats without window are very bad. 🤢
Heyy
What a trip! Probably not the european train experience you were expecting...
@@osasunaitor but it was funny when Ms. Sargentini told me to stay where I was and politely told off the Karen.
