    How could you not want to learn as much as possible from someone like this? An absolute genuine guy, loves to teach and passionate about drumming. I enjoy watching every video and attempting to learn everything I can. But I am one that could ruin an anvil with a rubber mallet as well! lol

    Mike: "Hey, here is this cool rudiment and I'll show you how you can use it on the kit"
    Thomas Haake: "You could make a band out of this!"

    5:05 and 5:15 are my favorite parts of what you're doing. Those smooth little ghosted rolls that get you back into the beat are awesome.

    Nicely explained. I've taught a lot of Drumline since 1973 and my website drum tab has 1,000 videos on rudiments and about everything else Drumset (5000+ students since 1998: necessity is the mother of invention), but this was very nicely explained so I sent it to my students. Thanks.

    I just realized that the "bludoosh" fill is essentially the same sticking as a herta, put you just smoosh the first two notes together into a flam. Kind of makes working out that fill a bit easier, since leading off a fill with a left-handed flam can be awkward at first.

    Some observations;Herta is a line of mass produced German frankfurter sausage on sale in the U.K. Second:there is always a two universe scenario between any drum rudiment notated & how it’s actually played:it seems like chalk & cheese to continue the food analogy. Third:the Kim Plainfield book is a monster & could actually be anyone’s desert island tutor book. And fourth - well played and explained.😀👍

    Wow Mike.... This is amazing.. this exact fill popped in my head a few hours before your video came up😅😅😅 (not that I am a seer or anything 😹😹😹)... I just didn't know how many different ways it could be applied. Thank you so much. I appreciate this lesson. And your way of creating it..…. " Do it once, then do it a second time to let the audience know you (the drummer) know what you are doing and then as usual.. two notes to get you out of the fill"... Most times those two notes are what can be permutated as a starting point for my own print to it 😁😁😁

    Hey Mike!
    I think this is a more detailed lesson of using the herta than one you uploaded years ago, I'm not entirely sure. But I'm pretty sure I have a video of me using the herta you taught in the older lesson on Instagram that I uploaded over a year ago. Anyway, great lesson. I've learned a whole lot about drumming just from watching you.

  • @PezrulezHaakon
    @PezrulezHaakon 5 років тому +1

    I don't know why, but I have a hard time liking the Herta concept. Well, I've never spent any time on Hertas learning to use it. But still I don't think it fits in anywhere, no matter how good you play it..
    However Mike, I've never heard Hertas been played like this, but this is the best I've heard so far. This actually made some sense 🤗
