Drax can be very difficult to play! But your deck was not optimal for him! If you want to play protection, Drax will need (depending of the archetype): - Shake it Off and/or Hard Knocks for tough - Energy Barrier and Repurpose if you want many readies and mitigate damage - First Aid and/or Med Team for healing Mantis or Drax - Knowhere for drawing cards with Guardians and + 1 ally - Limitless Stamina (It pays itself with the mastery) - Unshakable for steady Draw can use many basic cards. Avengers Mansion’s price is too high for Drax IMO. You can draw cards in many other ways.
Drax is one of my S tier (in terms of fun, not strength) heroes. So it's nice to see you try him out. Although, I played him 2 handed solo so his weaknesses can be covered by the other hero and he can focus solely on his strengths. He definitely looks rough in true solo.
I caught a glimpse of getting him rolling and i think he could be fun when that happens. I may try him again but i agree multiplayer is a much better way to play him
Oh man, tough game. 😅Funnily enough, I have this exact matchup on the table right now. However, I only dared to use standard. I think you either have to go more towards perfect defense or keep Mantis in the game with med team for more healing. I also always try to stay in Alterego for one turn at the beginning to get a bit of setup. Either way...this is a tough matchup for Drax.
You’re absolutely right, i have to find a way to keep Mantis for longer or get a defensive engine set up. Love the advice to stay in AE turn 1 for more setup. Thanos might give me the breathing room for that! Awesome tips jehoba :)
@@webwarriorfanatic if you are interested, i published my version of Drax protection i used against Thanos in marvelcdb. My username is also jehoba there. I guess its nothing new, just my version. 🙂
During the first turn you play Built support + Mantis and thwart for 3 on built support to put into play helicarrier: if you play directly helicarrier from your hand and use it to play Mantis you have to use Rocket as resource but you'll have Mantis and Drax free to do better things than thwarting on build support. That's my thought. Sorry, now I'm going on watching the full game...
That’s a good point. Definitely the better play there so i could’ve started working on Sanctuary. Thanks for the tip i gotta remember that thwarting the player side scheme may not always be optimal 😁
Don't give up on Drax! He is an unconventional hero with a tricky playstyle. Once he gets built up with his vengeance counters and Dwi Thweet Mastery (draws each time you attack), it is easy to chain together like 3+ attacks per turn and melt the villain. Tough statuses, healing, and extra readies are invaluable for him. That being said, Thanos is an especially brutal matchup for him.
This honestly felt like all of your key cards were at the bottom of your deck so you were gimped for most of that fight. But I suppose that's just the way it goes sometimes.
It be like that :/ if Thanos didn’t snap away Parry, that might have been the advantage i needed since i could draw into them much more often with the thinned out deck
"Drax the Destroyer has taken this insult lying down for too long. This 'Web-Warrior Fanatic', this interdimensional critic claimed he DREADS using the Destroyer? 'Low C Tier' he says! HA! Drax is never low, for he can jump higher than any other. He will show this so called fanatic of the warrior of webs that he is GREATER then that untrained Half Spider Half Man. He agrees to enter a simulation to duel a facsimile of the Mad Titan to show his power... Wait a second, where is Drax's knife? That's not fair! He can't parry without his knife! NO NO NO-" Well, that could of gone better. Never could hit that pivot moment of re-taking control and stabilizing that feels SO GOOD with a build style. I admit, I adore the brawler characters and I find myself constantly looking at low hand-size characters (Hello She-Hulk!) and I've struggled so much to make Drax work solo. Even though I LOVE the challenge of trying to take 'Low Tier' characters and really make them sing. (Partially why I never gave up on Shulk, which paid off! Thanks again btw ). As I really love to EMBRACE what the character does. I've tried him in an aggression Big Attack, Protection, heck even used a version of my 'Pool deck from She-Hulk to him. So my only option is to turn to a fairly generic justice package (Leadership is always last for me, as it's my least favorite aspect). It always feels like if I don't draw Drax's specific cards right on turn one, he will get overwhelmed and crushed. On top of the usual problem of 14hp+ folks there being so many deck building taxes it feels like you have to pay (Unshakeable, Limitless Stamina etc.) Which is what seemed to happen here. You couldn't leverage his big attack, you couldn't parry away Thanos' big hits and then that REALLY nasty turn where Thanos schemed his way through the main taking away your chance at stabilizing. I will say it is nice to see you making decisions that I find myself making 'I can't defend, if I do I'll lose anyway, time to gamble on the boost'. Funny enough the character I compare him most to mentally is Spider-Man. As Drax has to build up 3 counters to get Spider-Man's passive along with having to get Parry which is a weaker version of Jump-Flip 😅Though mind you, that isn't a 'Who is better then who' that is me trying to solve/think about what truly makes the character unique. Maybe the Guardian specific things? (Shake it Off, Rocket Boots? 🤔) Great gameplay! Sad The Destroyer didn't turn out well for you
Thanks Ritsy! Yea that one was tough. I felt like i was getting there for several turns but Thanos kept ramping. That’s a really interesting comparison you made though between Drax and Spider-Man. If Drax has 3 counters, he essentially has Spider-Sense (but as a response instead of an interrupt) and his Parry is essentially a Backflip (unless the villain does like 15 damage). It just feels bad that he needs to take 3 attacks to get to that point :/
I only have about a 50% win rate with Drax so this video help a lot! I have not played him in over a year so maybe it's about time to dust his cards off. When you have all the heroes, it is hard to play all of them all the time.
Haha i have a 0% win rate with Drax so not sure how helpful i can be! But i wanna try to increase that. I agree there’s so many heroes so it’s hard to play them all
Sorry but this time I totally disagree with you. This match remember me the time you loss with Hawkeye. I think your style of play (hard build up) is not functional with all heroes: Drax wants to be attacked all the time...and wants healing/more life: losing Mantis on turn 2 is terrible. Mantis mean 9 extra life for Drax (2 or 3 free villain attack damage). The key card for Drax is Theet mastery (great with cheap stand up cards like Limitless stamina, leading blow and fight me coward). Endurance and Unshackable are needed to. Repurpose is also a great combo card for Drax: rush for Drax is better than chumpblock allies and control 'cause he's not to good in threat removal (in protection naturally speaking). If you say " I like only heroes with great versatily that can build up controlling the board" ok, you're right, Drax sucks. But personally I think if the best and only way to play and win with all the Heroes would be "buld up and control" ( and I love very very much "build up and control") this game probably wouldn't be so interesting and various.
Hey there’s no disagreement here, i never said that building out is functional with all heroes, it’s the way i like to play and heroes that can’t do well aren’t my favorite. I agree with you that Drax plays better just attacking the villain and i may have to try him again. I did feel like the poorly timed Advance at the exact moment Thanos just needed 6 threat to pop the main with a 3 boost to exactly hit 6 didn’t help 😅
I think this is ok in Standard, but I really don't think this strategy will work against expert hard scenares. There are some villains, like Ultron, that have some many HP, because of that I don't think this "rush" strategy is reliable. Even with high HP and Mantis, it is pretty hard defeat high HP Villains before get defeated. And agaisnt Villans that have effects during activated, like Ultron, Thanos and Magnito, take all this activation making the game even harder.
@@fernandofete That’s the way i see the game too. It’s cool that some heroes want to play with tempo or rush, but unfortunately it’s not as viable in the more difficult scenarios or at least some degree of luck is required. I like building out because it feels consistent too-a lot of heroes can get to a 90% win rate against even the more difficult scenarios
I agree with you for the rush down strategy of Drax in Protection, which is legit strategy and probably optimal strategy. But I still do think he is not the best at rushing down and that is the problem. The guy is locked out from Alter Ego, unlike many other rush down hero, and that's very detrimental. I don't hate him in multiplayer, but true solo, he's very weak option in my eyes.
I play only expert and heroic but don't have recorded play but I remember a Descry two handed play with Drax that kill expert Ronan first turn: watch that video to see what amount of damage is capable Drax! He also won an entire solo expert campaign with aggression Hulk in less than 30 minute! I don't like rush, I prefer control, but for sure with a good built some heroes perform better in rush and are capable to won vs every expert villain.
Nice gameplay, I miss your decklist's in video description, the Colossus vs Ronan I wont see your decklist either, whats hapening? Your are afraid of someone stealing your job?🤣 I learn so much watching your videos and copying your decks. This realy make this game fun for me because I hate build decks.

I don't know if it is "hot take" or not, but I do feel that he's much more appreciated by the community and is ranked higher in Tiers List than Hulk or She Hulk. But as far as I'm concerned, being lock out of Alter Ego is a huge turn off for true solo. Hulk can build thanks to ingenuity and high HP/Rec, and She Hulk rush down better than him. I like Drax in multiplayer, but true solo? It might be one of the weakest champion of the game, and that's because Alter Ego is very strong in this game, and people might underevaluated how much it is. Nice try, anyway. PS: 29m20s, you played Rocket Raccoon in alter ego before flipping. No impact on the run, but that rule of "guardian only" lead to misplay without honorary guardian.
Hmm that’s an interesting take. I think i might have to agree. In true solo at least, I’d probably say She-Hulk and Hulk are stronger than Drax. Maybe not when they all came out, but the Hulks have gotten stronger with new cards and i don’t feel like Drax has gotten enough support at least to the degree as the other two. And good catch with the Rocket ally needing Guardian trait to play i totally missed that 🤦🏻♂️
