I really really love this message. My kiddos started archery very young and the eldest is now one of the better archers on her high school archery team. I have messed up arms and can't really do enough archery to be very good. But we all still have a lot of fun at the range.

This is not actually correct as I started with backflips whilst akimbo shooting (bow in each hand for any newbies reading) I am really, really good though.
Love that you mention it can even be done sitting down. My brother had a stroke at 27 and has been in a wheelchair since. He's taken up archery because he is able to do it while seated and it brings him so much joy ❤
When I was a kid I did proper modern archery in a club. The best guy there was a wheelchair user, he'd had some sort of spinal cord injury and couldn't do his previous sport anymore and someone suggested archery as a "relaxing hobby". We also had a kid with down syndrome, he wasnt the best shot, but he was better than his (healthy) brother. Archery can be done by everyone who can hold a bow (and even that isn't a must, as there are contraptions than can help).

You know, I've actually seen this on multiple occasions. When I was an instructor at my old range, we had a couple of people come through our introductory courses in wheelchairs, and we had them shooting in no time.

As a person in a wheelchair who loves archery (specifically with recurve bows) it is awesome to hear you talking about how it is for everyone :) I’ve never let my disability hold me back but more people need to get that message!
I had childhood arthritis, hinged knee braces in my teens, a surgery in college to clean debris off the shoulder joints, and was told at the time that archery might help strengthen my shoulders and prevent that from happening again. I feared it'd be too hard (my best friend took up archery and kept whining about how difficult it was). So, instead, I took up the sword. No regrets, it's fun! Who doesn't love swords! Now it's my knees going bad, I walk with a cane (and try to make it look cool, plus SWORD CANE) and I'm faced with knee replacements or even being in a wheelchair within the next few years. It sucks, I'm not even OLD but my joints are those of a WWII veteran. You pointing out that archery can be done sitting down gives me hope. I saw an archery range near my doctor. I should go check it out. Cheers!

Both my grandmothers has complete hips and knee replacement (one while still quite young after an accident) and regained full range of everyday mobility after the operations (interdiction to go skiing but that's all 😅). The technology is improving through the years too. If it's possible for you, then I wish you can get it!
I've got a wacky hunting longbow from the 60s, it's mixed wood and fiberglass and has about a 70-80lbs draw weight, it took me months to strength training to consistently get a full draw on it while using proper longbow stance and everything. Archery is awesome, and warbows are no joke
@@TekWolfie ye even back in the day they didnt do that, they started on lower draw weights that still had a purpose hunting bows could be lower than warbows (pretty sure they often were) and moved up as they gained strength actually hold proper technique with the stronger ones
the little sibling started with a draw of 40lbs at 13 years old and didn't know why it was so difficult and frustrating. we lowered it significantly and now it's their favorite sport. start where you're capable, this really is for everyone
We went to an archery range with my girl scout troupe when I was a kid. The girl in a wheelchair was the best shot of out of all of us. Archery can be a really inclusive sport!
I'm an archery instructor, and I tell this to my kids all the time! We as humans have been shooting for so long that we figured out how to make it accessible for so many people. There are archers without arms, archers in wheelchairs, even blind archers! It's a beautiful sport that can be done by so many people.

I appreciate that you showed that it can be done sitting down. I'm disabled and can't stand for very long, so any hobby I have has to be something I can do sitting. I still wouldn't be able to do archery, because I only have one fully functioning arm, but I always appreciate when people think about how things can be adapted. (Side note, I know foot archery is a thing but I can't use my feet either. I actually learned to do a lot of things with my feet as a kid. But I also have hip dysplasia so my hips constantly pop in and out of the socket, and by now my hip joints are too damaged to use my feet for stuff anymore.)
I'm disabled too well I can walk but I can't run and archery is one of my hobby. You can shoot while sit down, even I saw in youtube video many bow hunter shooting their prey while sitting in a tree.
This is really wholesome and motivating, I've never been able to find an archery range or space nearby and I dont have a lot of strength or endurance so I kinda gave up on that childhood dream... now I'm considering looking for a range near my university and giving it another shot in my early twenties even if my social anxiety makes me terrified of being the only beginner adult 😅
@bacul165 couldn't find a range within convenient distance, but I have started going to a gym so my anxiety about these things is easier to deal with now! For sure finding one once I move away from here though!

There's a traditional Javanese archery called Jemparingan. The archers shoot their arrows literally sitting down on the ground 😅 Some of the Sultan's servants practice in a range near Ambarrukmo hotel and plaza, I think it's every Friday. Nice sight to see ❤
Great video. I remember watching a programme in which human remains were analysed from the battle of Agincourt. The longbow men all had massively thickened bones in their favoured arm and shoulder.
As a wheelchair user I appreciate the sit down show. I can't do archery as I have one working arm so nothing to pull or hold with but I have loved the physics of archery my entire life. It is a beautiful sport. Added thirst traps are of course appreciated

I started with a 16 pound bow and 7 years in I have a 30 pound wooden one piece recurve BB and a 25 pound carbon fiber 3 piece recurve BB. You don't have to climb in strength, be happy and comfortable with what you're pulling and enjoy ❤️
My legs aren’t great, but knowing it’s such an open field makes me happy. One day I should start learning archery, that way it can sit with my bo staff and other old weapons I’m trained in for no good reason.
I met a para-Olympic gold metal archer that had a birth defect with almost no arms. He uses a holster to hold the arrows and drew the bow with his feet. Incredibly accurate and strong.

I officially started at the end of August this year with a #33 (idk if its pound, im in Europe), traditional Hungarian bow. Im doing better and better. Last lesson I was finally allowed to shoot 13 meters after I was doing only 10 meters for such a long time. It's one of the best sports out there in my opinion. And because I'm also riding, one day I'll either ask my instructor or learn by myself how to do horseback archery, to really bring me back to my roots.
This was one of the reasons I fell in love with archery, given the right weight of bow and length of arrows it is a sport absolutely any kind of person can do well

Hi I love your videos! Just a quick tip from someone who does gymnastics/parkour. When you do your front flip focus on the initial punch off the ground and try to gain height in your jump as you are turning over for the flip. 👍
Personally, I took a couple archery classes at summer camp one year and personally I loved it and I got a compound bow in a recurved bow for myself. Turns out the recurve bow was just for display. Didn't know that at the time but the compound bow was for children so I just kind of stuck with it and filed down the handle till it was good enough for me. But it still works fairly efficiently. Great for shooting cardboard and stabbing watermelons
I love this! I had my first archer lesson when I was 12 and I was the oldest kid there. I had always wanted to do it and I was surprised how comfortable I was with a bow and arrow. Since then I have not had an opportunity to try again but it became my favorite activity since then. We used the 20 pound recurve bows with a light string and I did not know the difference in other bows. The funny thing is even though I train for fun now and still wait for a chance to do archery again one day in middle school we had a Ren fest after studying the area and I talked up a good game of my target skills. I forgot my bow and being left eyed I went for the left hand bow though I am right handed. It went very badly because I had no strength to pull back an 80 point bow and string. I did not care for that event. But I still very much love archery and can't wait to try again one day. I do have my own bow but have not gotten to use it because since moving I don't have a yard anymore, a place to practice or arrows for that matter to practice with. One day though. ❤
This is such an amazing message. Definitely the first time I could imagine sitting in my wheelchair but still kicking ass! ... sadly, though, shoulder problems mean I'd have to work a LOT harder to get proficient with a bow, probably starting with a physiotherapist. I've tried archery a couple times, and even with a 20-pound bow, I can feel the force start to pull my arms out of their sockets.
It's also worth noting that the muscles that you use to draw a bow are pretty much *only* used to draw a bow, there isn't any work out regimen you can do to train to draw a bow other than to... draw a bow, so it doesn't really matter if somebody has been lifting weights for years or whatever, unless they've built up their draw weight via tons and tons of practice with increasingly heavy bows, they aren't gonna be pulling those historical warbows, at least not more than once or twice, and they'll probably hurt themselves trying.
Archery is a great stress reliever. With a 35# draw weight it's so easy to wear out within an hour and I'm no longer angry cause I'm too tire to care at that point.
Seeing someone shoot a heavy war bow is really impressive. You can see how demanding it is just watching it. Joe Gibbs is a good example, he is amazing in the Tod's workshop videos.
You know, you’d probably be able to land your front flips WITHOUT the mat there. As someone who does free parkour and tricking - I know that having the Matt there offers psychological comfort- but you have the hight - you have the rotation - if you had 5-6 inches to land - you’d nail it man!
I first started learning with Pasadena Roving Archery $5 dollar classes, if you are in Los Angeles county and don't know where to start look them up the instructors are amazing and you don't need to own any equipment to start.
The draw weight of bows for war greatly depends on the location and time period. There are plenty of war bows used under 80lbs such as in meso America and the Stone Age and often forgotten today
Tbh I’ve been seeing a lot of your videos as of late on DND stuff and it keeps drawing my interest with bows, I’ve always been interested in them as a whole and it really would be amazing to learn. I’ll be it I’d need to save the money to be able to.. but being able to learn one day would be amazing!
My first bow was 40 lb… I didn’t want to go overboard, but figured I should go on the high end of the suggested range, because I’m doing it for exercise, not to compete or anything. It’s ambidextrous too, and I take equal numbers of shots on both sides. I work out a lot, and 40 lb isn’t too hard, and I can def hold it at full draw for 30 sec… But not completely comfortably. I’m going to swallow my pride and go down to 30 lb so I can really focus on proper technique. At some point I’d like to get an insanely heavy one that I can use like lifting weights, but I might as well learn to get good while I’m at it. I’d recommend starting like 10 lighter than you want to.
I love how the hood went on when you did that flip. One does not simply do archrry without a hood unless you're in the MCU. Even comic book Hawkeye at least has that goofy cowl. When Morgana used the Scsrlet Witch to warp reality, he had a purple hood.

A lot of people underestimate the fact that you can let your strength build up as you practice archery.

I suppose you could use a crossbow if someone else loads, but that might be illegal where you are. I know they are supposed to be illegal over here.

There's plenty of beginner adults, I was a beginner at like. 27. I'm sure there's beginners at 50+. No time is too late to being something.

Hi I love your videos! Just a quick tip from someone who does gymnastics/parkour. When you do your front flip focus on the initial punch off the ground and try to gain height in your jump as you are turning over for the flip. 👍
Personally, I took a couple archery classes at summer camp one year and personally I loved it and I got a compound bow in a recurved bow for myself. Turns out the recurve bow was just for display. Didn't know that at the time but the compound bow was for children so I just kind of stuck with it and filed down the handle till it was good enough for me. But it still works fairly efficiently. Great for shooting cardboard and stabbing watermelons

I love this! I had my first archer lesson when I was 12 and I was the oldest kid there. I had always wanted to do it and I was surprised how comfortable I was with a bow and arrow. Since then I have not had an opportunity to try again but it became my favorite activity since then. We used the 20 pound recurve bows with a light string and I did not know the difference in other bows. The funny thing is even though I train for fun now and still wait for a chance to do archery again one day in middle school we had a Ren fest after studying the area and I talked up a good game of my target skills. I forgot my bow and being left eyed I went for the left hand bow though I am right handed. It went very badly because I had no strength to pull back an 80 point bow and string. I did not care for that event. But I still very much love archery and can't wait to try again one day. I do have my own bow but have not gotten to use it because since moving I don't have a yard anymore, a place to practice or arrows for that matter to practice with. One day though. ❤
This is such an amazing message. Definitely the first time I could imagine sitting in my wheelchair but still kicking ass!
... sadly, though, shoulder problems mean I'd have to work a LOT harder to get proficient with a bow, probably starting with a physiotherapist. I've tried archery a couple times, and even with a 20-pound bow, I can feel the force start to pull my arms out of their sockets.

It's also worth noting that the muscles that you use to draw a bow are pretty much *only* used to draw a bow, there isn't any work out regimen you can do to train to draw a bow other than to... draw a bow, so it doesn't really matter if somebody has been lifting weights for years or whatever, unless they've built up their draw weight via tons and tons of practice with increasingly heavy bows, they aren't gonna be pulling those historical warbows, at least not more than once or twice, and they'll probably hurt themselves trying.

Archery is a great stress reliever. With a 35# draw weight it's so easy to wear out within an hour and I'm no longer angry cause I'm too tire to care at that point.

Seeing someone shoot a heavy war bow is really impressive. You can see how demanding it is just watching it. Joe Gibbs is a good example, he is amazing in the Tod's workshop videos.

As someone who does free parkour and tricking - I know that having the Matt there offers psychological comfort- but you have the hight - you have the rotation - if you had 5-6 inches to land - you’d nail it man!

I first started learning with Pasadena Roving Archery $5 dollar classes, if you are in Los Angeles county and don't know where to start look them up the instructors are amazing and you don't need to own any equipment to start.
The draw weight of bows for war greatly depends on the location and time period. There are plenty of war bows used under 80lbs such as in meso America and the Stone Age and often forgotten today
we all start somewhere! with consistency and training everyone can learn :)
Tbh I’ve been seeing a lot of your videos as of late on DND stuff and it keeps drawing my interest with bows, I’ve always been interested in them as a whole and it really would be amazing to learn. I’ll be it I’d need to save the money to be able to.. but being able to learn one day would be amazing!

I started on a target range with a 30lb bow. And now I'm aiming *punny* to longbowman in a re-enactment group. Defo a good hobby to get into.

My first bow was 40 lb… I didn’t want to go overboard, but figured I should go on the high end of the suggested range, because I’m doing it for exercise, not to compete or anything. It’s ambidextrous too, and I take equal numbers of shots on both sides. I work out a lot, and 40 lb isn’t too hard, and I can def hold it at full draw for 30 sec… But not completely comfortably. I’m going to swallow my pride and go down to 30 lb so I can really focus on proper technique. At some point I’d like to get an insanely heavy one that I can use like lifting weights, but I might as well learn to get good while I’m at it. I’d recommend starting like 10 lighter than you want to.
I love how the hood went on when you did that flip. One does not simply do archrry without a hood unless you're in the MCU.
Even comic book Hawkeye at least has that goofy cowl. When Morgana used the Scsrlet Witch to warp reality, he had a purple hood.
