@@blumineck 😳 You’re also from “Oop North”, too: A wild and fantastic land beyond the London Commuter Belt… So it’s very probable. 😉 Anyway, get well soon
my first thought was "so like if you're climbing something like a rope or ladder or tall post and can only spare one hand-" then I remembered I was literally watching the pole dancer who hangs from a pole with leg strength so he can free up his hands for archery. have you ever tried it from a ladder or rope, though?
I do aerial silk (which has lots of transferable skills and technique to rope) and there are definately plenty technique that let you hang upside down/sideways on a rope (if you don't want to slip having it be gurty enough to have a diameter of about your fist) and still leaving your hands free for archery. As for a ladder (as long as the ladder stand sturdy and secure enough it like hanging from your knees or alternatively you go partially through the slats and hang on your waist.
@@blumineck Same problem for my aerial silk and well the public/police gets a little nervous when you walk around with bow and arrow in public. Edit: I suppose at a remote part of a forest could be fine.
There are/have been a few fully armless archers to compete internationally as well! To my knowledge, just one man and one woman. Not sure if the guy's still competing, but there's a young woman on India's para-archery team who's been racking up international titles using her feet and a shoulder harness release. She has so much control, it's amazing.
I took an Archery class with a girl who learned to shoot a recurve with only her feet because she was born without arms. It was so impressive to watch!
This is very cool, also thanks for mentioning disabled archery and pointing out the differences between that and battlefield injuries. Hope you're feeling better soon.
I've busted my shoulder before and wish you steady recovery. I can confirm as someone prone to injuries ( mostly broken bones and pulled muscles) and I learned at a young age to get very creative with working around injuries and still finding ways to use the injured areas in order to encourage fast and healthy recovery.
The foot bracing reminds me of the scene in Hero (2002) where an army used large bows lying down, bracing the bow with both feet and drawing with both hands. Always struck me as a pretty reasonable idea for huge formations where range and penetration are far more important than accuracy. They were apparently really used even, though about 1,300 years later than the setting of the film...
First thing I thought of two! Even English Longbowmen would do that sometimes. The thing was, doing that effectively turned it into a less effective heavy crossbow. As you basically sacrificed a normal longbows advantage - speed, to attempt to gain some of a heavy crossbow's advantage - power.
@@Jafroboy I can imagine that it would work relatively well in some sort of ambush-scenario. A unit of longbowmen lying hidden in the tall grass and suddenly a volley of arrows flies out of seemingly nowhere.
Matthew Stutzman, the armless archer, was nearly disqualified from the ParaOlympics because his the strength from the hip was stronger than most people could get from their shoulder 💀
Check out Sheetal Devi, the armless Archer representing India at the Paralympics. She was inspired and advised by the American armless archery paralympian Matt Stutzman
On foot, on a wall, tree, upside down, in a tree upside down, poll, upside down on a poll, possibly a ceiling?, with his foot and mouth. This guy can shoot a bow anyway you think of, and i find that amazing, great inspiration👍.
I always love how he says that something is more suited for a fictional character than a real person and then proceeds to do something only a fictional character should be able to do.
My boyfriend is disabled and when he was a kid he loved archery he would shoot with his toes. He uses is feet for everything and it's really cool to see the workarounds he has for everything.
I don't remember this Tik tokers(I don't know if she has UA-cam either) name but she is a foot archers and she is really incredible when using a bow with her feet
I really appreciate taking the time to acknowledge disabled archery first before getting into the other relevant parts of the topic. I feel like disability in sports is often forgotten about (as is disability in general tbh) so it’s much appreciated
I am glad to know about the existence of disabled archery. It makes sense, but I haven’t thought about it before. Judging from your channel, you seem to be good at everything we do. Can you post a video of you doing something you are bad at? Like idk.. baking? You might be good at that though. Maybe hard tongue twisters like “Irish wrist watch.” Anyway. Get well soon!
I’m glad disabled athletes are finally getting a bit of recognition; they are true athletes, many of whom train for hours every day. The Paralympics aren’t some feel-good way to pat people with disabilities on their head and give each a medal of participation; they are a competition with dedicated athletes who train just as hard as their non disabled colleagues.
Ngl, I went into this after reading the title and thinking "well duh, bows are two handed weapons, of course it'd be *near* impossible to do it one handed" And after watching I gotta say, I've been impressed, amazed, shocked, surprised, and etc. (Also, just like everyone else, I wish the best of luck for your shoulder lad... but of course, you don't need it, you got so much skill and talent, lol; keep being you man, you're amazing)
thank youuu ive needed this short I have a character, shes a Harpy and often needs to keep one hand free even while flying I've been entertaining the idea of her using one of her talons to hold her bow while shooting

I love how even though you take a look at how realistic fictional tropes are, you don't act like they're worse because they're unrealistic. And you don't belittle people who think they're cool.
The elven archer-bard is at it again! I was scared for your teeth, so I'm glad to know both that such release aides exist and that you didn't try the heavier bow. And who'da thought firing with feet was actually viable? Although people can paint with their toes, so holding a bow makes sense, too. 😸
That reminds me of Tulin, from Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. He's a bird, so he holds the bow with his claws, pulls the string with his beak and, since his wings are free, he can do all of that while flying. It looks pretty awesome.
I instantly thought of the painting "Caboclo" by Jean Baptiste Debret, showing two Brazilian Indians hunting birds using their feet to hold the bow and pulling the string with (both) hands.
I only took archery for a couple years as a middle schooler but seeing anyone draw a bow with their teeth gives me the same feeling as nails on a chalkboard. Like oh my god y’all are gonna need DENTURES in a minute
You should try holding multiple arrows in the hand you use for shooting when you heal:) Its a method used a lot in history, and it is said to be one of the best ways of Archery in the book arab archery, if i recall correctly.
I really want to see you do a collab with Sofie Dossi. The shooting the arrow with your feet reminded me of it again as that is one of her signature moves.
Now I'm thinking of the cinematic trailer for Assassin's Creed: Origins where one of Bayek's shoulders is injured and he used his foot to shoot his bow.
This is very handy! I have a character who loses an arm eventually, and yeah he gets a veey advanced bionic/prosthetic, but he relearns life first without one before he's offered one, when he's approached by the person offering it to him as a gift, she explains she understands how hsrd he's worked to regain his life without his arm and if he'd like to continue how he currently lives, he doesn't have to accept it and they'll figure out something else she can gift him. (He does accept the arm but doesn't always use it, and it takes just as long to relearn once more how to live WITH the new arm due to programming and training of the arm and how to use it, etc.)

I feel both would do doable but harder then a pole
Granted it also depends how stable the ladder is
