regarding the leaf fletchings, It would be better to use a waxy leaf with a better profile, ideally more of a pointed oval as these last longer, have better flight characteristics, are more waterproof, and are generally thicker and sturdier. You would also not bind the fletching in the manner done in the video - instead you would make 3 cuts along the length of the rear 120* apart (so equally) to ensure the fletchings are securely bound. then you would cut around the leaf stem on both sides. flattening the leaves under a heavy press would also help. you would then insert the leaves into the cuts ideally with a binder but this is optional, before tying the shaft back together with some twine (stripped roots are a suitable substitute). We use 3 fletchings to enable triaxially stabilized flight. The important trick here is to make sure that when carving your V-notch for the drawstring, that you pick a fletching to do this at 90* to, and likewise if you are using an arrowhead with fins like a broadhead, then to make sure that this arrowhead is affixed to the shaft parrallel to your V-notch. This is done to ensure that the two fletchings which must pass the arrowhead do so in a way that lets them get pushed away rather than ripped off, and also so your arrowhead doesn't get stuck on the bow when loading/drawing. Regarding arrowheads you can use recycled aluminium cans :p. You cut out the flat bit and make cone nets (circles with a single cut to the center). you then fold eights until you get to the very end bit, which should be not quite enough for another fold. Cut a bit more off and fold over the edge. force the carved shaft into the neck and crease the arrowhead and you have free, renewable arrowheads. It's a good option for those without home forges

Well, I'm afraid that the answer is, it depends. Each having pros and cons. I'll try listing them briefly off the top of my head: 1) Leaf is ,,pre-made" , quick to attach just need thread and good to go. But it has almost no durability. 2) Duct tape, super durable and versatile, but you won't find it just laying around in the wild. 3) and let's include feather as well just for fun. may be the easiest or the hardest to come by, depending on area. durability is in the middle compared to 1) and 2) and lastly, just want to mention that this was an experiment, just for fun to see what happens, since i did not expect anything, i was nicely surprised how the leaf operated :D
Indeed, the choice to neglect safety procedures is okay if it only concerns yourself, that's your own prerogative, but by showing other people to use a knife incorrectly, that also concerns the life and wellbeing of others, and in this case also their safety. So John's comment is very spot on, and maybe sounded harsh but actually isn't. Loosing a finger due to something that on hindside was a stupidity, that isn't a joke... He wasn't rude at all, as a matter of fact I find his reaction more than neutral enough considering the context. And this is a good example of constructive criticism. Criticism hurts, but when it is constructive criticism, then at least you can improve on what was being done wrong... Safety first, especially when others are involved and might be affected.

I recently made a little practice arrow with paper fins, the trick to making them is to cut layers of paper, something like 3-4 layers should be good, then stick them together with paper glue, and then coat it with a bunch of superglue, i don't know if it works with every brand, but the result is a super hard fin that can take a hell of a beating. I shot my arrow well over 30+ times before anything ripped. The only thing that really ripped is the tip of one fin though, so can just make another fin to replace it. And for fin shape you can just use a printer to get a bunch of fins drawn on A4 paper, then just cut em , also means you could make all sorts of fins, with way more accuracy.
sounds awesome, maybe the only downside is that you can make the fin too hard and it impacts the trajectory of the arrow when it encounters the bow, but i guess it can be mitigated... Thanks for the tip 😁
