Fun fact: 1998 was also the first time since the 1970 merger that the Cardinals won a playoff game
Actually, it was the first time since winning the (pre-Super Bowl era) NFL Championship in the 1940s. I think it was 1946, but I could be off by about a year or two.
@@dionr1168 They won the championship in 1947. 2 years after that was also the last time until 2018 they beat the Packers in Lambeau, the game that got McCarthy fired
Fun fact: NFL states many statistics after the 1970 merger
And they beat the cowboys in the wildcard round that year
First time since 1947
These 2 teams would meet each other again in the Wildcard game and the Cardinals beat the Cowboys on their home turf
third times the charm
And I believe that win for the Cardinals marked their first playoff victory in maybe half a century.
@@dynamicrockwell3449 ur right in Dallas it was the game after the miami Buffalo thriller I remember as a kid
I watched this game as a kid with my grandpa on an old school tv. Omfg I miss these days.
Same back when I first became a packers and Auburn tigers fan
We better win on Sunday

Throwback to when the cardinals used to play in sun devil stadium in the blazing 🥵 hot
@Hector Rodriguez youdahoe
85 degrees in mid-November for this one - you got that right
metal benches n shit, and ppl wondered why they had no fans at the game😭
I went to the last game of the season that year and it was a beautiful day to see a game.
Aw man, Pat Sommerall and John Madden! The good ole days
Amen
Amen
It's a good day when NFL Throwback uploads
Amazing how the Cowboys scored 35 in this one and 38 in their week 1 matchup against the Cards, and yet when the playoffs happened and these two teams met, they could only muster up 7 points
That dismal Cowboys Wild Card game performance was one of the more perplexing showings ever.
And those 7 points were in garbage time.
Never forget the Cardinals used to be in the NFC East
And they were usually at the bottom
And the Colts were in the AFC East 😂
Before they where in ari they where in Stl yes with the same name as the baseball team after they left Chicago
And I wish we still were..
The Seahawks was in the AFC west
Damn Fox has been using that theme for a long time lmao
Since it's inception from 1994 to present day!
Its iconic. Just like the old NBA on NBC theme
@@yaahlabanyamyan144 true
1998 it’s nice when you see the Dallas Cowboys have Emmett Smith, Michael Irving , Larry Allen and trey Aikman Who misses 90s cowboy team
Who tf is trey aikmen sumo
That endzone paint is fuckin wild!

Old NFC East rivalry game from Week 11 of the 1998 NFL season between the Dallas Cowboys and the Arizona Cardinals. Never forget the Cardinals used to be in the NFC East. May Pat Summerall rest in peace.
Wish they would load the wild card playoff game from that year at Texas stadium
May John Madden RIP
@@MonsieurLeRocck amen
When Pat Summerall and John Madden we're calling your game, you knew it was important
Summerall was really good in this one - he was up and down in his later years as he got old and battled some health problems but he was at the top of his game here.
@@walterlv01 fr
WOW taking snaps under center in obvious passing situations.
And Aikman looking completely lost in shotgun lol so weird.
@@rodneyking8896 back when 4000 yards was considered a accomplishment
You guys gotta have the playoff game in here.
First cardinals playoff win in nearly 50 seasons
I grew up on Madden and Al Michaels
Madden and Summerall I only remeber from Madden videogames
@Keith Cousins I remmeber madden 98 with the ambulance cart lmao where you would hear a bone snap when someone was hurt
I liked that Cardinals end zone design
Crazy game. Dallas ended up going 8-0 in the NFC East in 1998. Only games they won outside the division: home games against CAR & SEA (I was at that game, fun times)
Next time these two teams would meet: Wild Card Round, AZ would win 20-7. Their first postseason win since *1947* when they beat the Eagles for the NFL Title 28-21 as the Chicago Cardinals
Hearing Summerall and Madden on the call is my favorite part of these old games
Deion was out there trying to play on one foot.
Yep and still got the interception and dang near scored just goes to show what a truly special athlete Deion was#cowboysnation
Classic Pat Summerall,John Madden,Old Fox Theme,Sun Devil Staduim and Jake Plummer knew he was wrong for throwing toward Prime and RIP Pat Tillman
Miss this era and im not a cowboy fan but i still love this game
They need to bring back that end zone paint!!
I waited this whole video to see the cardinals win.
The endzone paint job is spectacular
It's amazing how old the Cardinals franchise is. They were celebrating their 100th anniversary in 1998! It took 21 years for another team would reach the same milestone.
Not sure that’s true. NFL started in 1920.
@@rkid727 The Cardinals franchise began in 1898. They're wearing 100 year anniversary patches in this game.
@@rkid727 Cardinals began as the Chicago Cardinals of the AAFC, I believe
@@rkid727 The Cardinals franchise proceeds the NFL's existence itself. They are the oldest franchise in the league by far. 20+ years older than the Packers and Bears
I was born on this day, during this game!! What a thrill to discover this! GO COWBOYS🔥
Fun Fact the 1998 Cowboys would end up going 8-0 against their NFC East rivals (Including the Cardinals who use to be in the Division) but 2-6 against the rest of their Opponents that year.
Actually 8-0 vs. division (5 teams in NFC East at time) and 2-6 outside of division.
@@toddbiesel4288 Thank you for the correction
Good to hear Pat Tillmans name .
Cowboys just held on in this one but 2 months later were upset by the Cards at home in the playoffs.
Fact
Fun game. This play at 2:01 is so underrated too. Not much different from a normal option, but different enough that I'm surprised more teams don't try something like this today. It's probably because there's not many QBs who line up under center anymore, but I feel like it would work well.
The Philadelphia Eagles ran a lot of options when they had vick
Am I the only one thinking Jerry McGuire right now? Show me the money Jerry😅😅
Crazy ending
Great comeback effort by the cardinals but they got revenge on Dallas in the 98 playoffs
Remember this game well I was almost out of elementary school good memories but man was that wild card loss tough to take#cowboysnation
15:18 just pointing this out to people who whine about the modern NFL being too soft, they have been making these calls since the 90s.
The good old days at sun devil stadium when every sunday at the game is hot
Vince tobin the coach of these Arizona cardinals was the dc of the 86 bears defense the year after buddy Ryan left and that defense set the record that the 2000 ravens broke on defense
Vince Tobin was also the defensive coordinator for the 1995 Cinderella Indianapolis Colts that ended up upsetting Chargers and Chiefs in the playoffs then lost to the Steelers in the AFC Championship Game on the famous Jim Harbaugh/ Aaron Bailey Hail Mary incomplete pass.
I liked Jake Plummer as a QB, even though he would have some boneheaded games. Apparently, Bill Walsh liked him coming out of college, and recommended the 49ers draft him (to be understudy of Steve Young), but the top brass went with Jim Druckenmiller instead. I know the 49ers eventually got Garcia in 1999, but it would have been interesting if Jake was taken instead.
One of my more fond QB memories for Denver as lower tier.
Wrong. Walsh preferred Drukenmiller due his size. He liked Plummer but after Montana and Young, he was wary of QBs with smaller builds.
@@rodneyking8896 You have an article that cites such? I'd love to see that information from sources at the time. Meanwhile there's actual evidence available that Walsh wanted Jake.
a.espncdn.com/nfl/s/walsh.html
@@rodneyking8896 i remember seeing an interview where Walsh stated he preferred Plummer over Druckenmiller. In many ways, Jake was like a bone head version of Joe Montana.Same wiry frame.Jake was just more of a risk taker. His best attribute was his clutchness. He was pretty good at the end of games. But of course, his team would be down thanks to his bonehead plays earlier in the game.Despite his lack of discipline at times, some people actually thought he was the best young QB in the league around '97-'99.The Cardinals had been a doormat for nearly 50 yrs, but they started winning, and even won a playoff game when Jake got there. It's hard to put into word.Jake could be a jack azz & magical at the same time.Loved him whe he was at ASU.One of my favorite college QB's of all time.
I'm going to be at the week 3 game vs Cardinals. #CowboysNation
The hit Plummer takes at 7:43 is insane.
When Emmitt Smith has played for both of these teams
Deion injured his toe in that game.
He was never the same after that.
10:06 I don't know why I laugh everytime I hear that name. Ever since I was a little kid lol
Cowboys was a great team In the 1990s
Anyway to watch this replay in its entirety???
Excellent
Rest in peace pat Tillman a legend in Arizona the famous wild card game cards win lol ha ha
163 yards passing earned Aikman NFC Offensive Player of the Week? Either every other NFC QB sh** the bed or the bar just wasn't very high.
Different rules and all he had was irvin left
I was gonna say, I know this was the 90s, but come on. Even in the 70s I don’t think that would get you player or the week.
A young Jake Plummer is reminiscent of an old Rich Gannon
Can you guys do Shannon sharp career highlights
I remember watching this gm. Good to see the league bent the rules for the Cowboys...
A desert comeback that didn’t even exist (the Cowboys still won) Nice naming.
Terrible no call to end the game. Cards got robbed of a chance to tie it. They did get their revenge in the playoffs though.
This was actually the Cowboys' only win in Arizona from 1997-2002 and they played there every year during that time.
Because the Cardinals were in the NFC East.
Prime Time Turf Toe Injury Game
It's crazy how many times the QB's drop back to pass even under 2min.
What was the penalty at 10:16...all I see is a Cards receiver with his arm outstretched grabbing the Cowboy receiver
Cards had such a nice classic uniform. Not sure why they clowned it up in the 2000s. Glad they have a new look now but they should really go back to this
That stadium must've been 50/50 Cowboy fans if not more. Couple of nice plays at 17:37. The block by Eric Metcalf to free up Moore a bit to make a dash to the pylon...and the tackle by Kenny Wheaton that kept Moore in bounds and prevented a TD.
The last play to Moore was likely PI, but the Cards did get that gift penalty on a 4th down earlier which led to a TD...so can't make a stink about it
I actually thought you were going to play the 1998 wildcard game we all know way
Why can't we be this good again
How is this a comeback? They did not win.
Where is the Bills vs Chiefs throwback?
LIfelong Cardinals fan, and I was at that game. I'm still upset about the non-PI call. But glad the Cards got some payback in the playoffs.
1:59 That’s a bad mugshot of Emmitt 🤣🤣🤣
Anyway to anybody that’s watching this remember y’all, Keep Going & Be Safe 🤟🏾💯
Wonder why they never bring it back
back when football was football
I was there , left pissed off as usual . PI for sure …
What cardinals end zone?
Cardinals screwed on no call p.i.? What else is new
When the cardinals played in the nfc east.
Pat Tillman, say HIS name!
the game cant end on a defensive penalty. who thought that one thru? just means the defense could cheat at the end of the game
Once again the Cowboys get a Cowboy call or in this case no call spoiling a great comeback but the Cards would get revenge in the Wild Card game.
Yessir go cowboys
Refs are still ratdogs can’t be fair
Cardinals got screwed!
These are Cardinal uniforms, not the horror show that they wearing now1
Cards need to go back to these unis..
Ahh. When the cardinals used to be good in the late nineties
They are good now
Why call it a comeback? The cardinals lost
of course the cowboys get that call lmfao
YESS THE COWBOYS WON!
But not Tonight 🤣🤣🤣

Fun fact back when aikman was patriotic...
Pass interference
First!!
actually fourth
@@purplegamer9794 oops sorry lol (:

Pass interference on the guy covering Rob Moore. Cowgirls cheap win. I tell you what I'd take Jake Plummer over Troy Aikman any day pure guts. Aikman was so soft. If he didn't have the offensive line he wouldn't have done crap in his career. Same with Emmitt Smith Barry Sanders was better. RIP Vince Tobin Cards coach took them to the playoffs 1st time since the 40's
