Hello, I dry my seed and pollen in a closed box with silica, either my mesuring equipment minimum is 10% or thats how low can silica go, because It's always 10, that would be close to ideal if you don't want to use a liquid. Need to be tested more with proper equipment tho.
Silica will absorb water till it is satured, so humidity can go down to 0 % in the surrounding air. That is not what you want. I would expect the same applies for clarinervium
@@Cactusinformation I ended up finding some silica and stored it beside the envelope of pollen over night but took it away before adding to the freezer. I didn't have glycerine. But I have the next inflourescence shooting up now and am excited to try this for the first time! Hopefully it works!
Thanks ! My tries wend wrong with doing this.. I think that was becouse i dryed the pollen to much ? I thought that de pollen would rot (or distroyd) by 10% humidity. No drying at all ? Greetings
For periods longer than a couple of months, it is better to use the freezer. In that case the pollen have to be really dry before storing and kept dry. The can last for years. But i am not an expert on all different kind of pollen.
Hi Mohammad. Rice must be baked first before use, else it will not work. Once baked i can dry things. It think however that is will just absorb all the humidity (so not a certain balance as with glycerine)
Wish there was any kind of speech describing what is happening. It gets pretty difficult to just look and try to figure out what you're doing, and go back and forth to watch again if I blink.
Hi Kathryn. There are subtitles. Speech can not be translated in UA-cam. Also if someone claims that the background music is theirs (even if that is not true), we have to replace speech/sound together, thereby loosing the speech and have to redo the work
Thank you for posting this! Will be trying with my pumpkin plants & will update you on my success/failures 🤞hoping for the best!
Such a wonderful video explanation ....will be useful for cactus enthusiast and hobbyist for ages to come.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Very informative for the hobbyists.
What’s the use of the glycerin?
Excellent! Exactly what I needed to know!! Many thanks!

Is it possible to store clarinervium pollon without the glycerin? What were the silica packets for?

@@therootandvein did your method work?
Thank you for your work!
What soil mix do u use for cacti
How long can pollen be stored in the freezer
That can vary from half a year to several years
Thanks !

This could well be. Some species allow to dry below 10% but others don't. Also the pollen have to recover before use including increase of humidity
@@Cactusinformation Thanks !
How long is the recovery time you hold on ?
@@21egbert21 At least one hour. High humidity environment will make the pollen to absorb some moisture
When was the silica used and for what purpose?
We do not use, but it is normally used for drying
If i want to store pollen for later use (long period) i should keep them in a refrigerator or in a freezer? How long will they last?

@@Cactusinformation thank you, I'll be trying with gymnocalyciums, hopefully I'll be able to get seedpods later
Can possible in rice plant?

The envelopes you are using look perfect for storing pollens. Did you make them yourself?
No not hoemade. They are used for stamps and in the past for salary
Does this have words cause Captions says something, but I hear no actual speaking throughout?
