    Yep, the "wind blowing" or "paper crumpling" sound is definitely a preamp tube that's gone bad or microphonic. Sometimes you can pinpoint which preamp tube has gone bad by lightly tapping on the preamp tubes with a pencil/wooden dowel and listening for which one causes the tapping to transfer into the speakers in the cabinet.

    Christ on a bike, I hadn't watched your video yet but it has been the deciding factor on pushing the button and buying this amp. Exceptionally versatile and just what us pedal platform guys need. Great video :)

    Strange that i watched another youtuber say that he didnt like Victory amps because he had nothing but issues and here i see a live demo and BAM issues. I respect you that you kept it in the video but if i didnt see that other video i would forgive and forget.

    I've had the same noise on my newly acquired used V40 and it was NOT a preamp tube but a POWERAMP tube instead! No problem, thanks to your "poweramp tube kit" video I solved it! :)
    Thank You!

    I bought this amp a month ago. LOVE IT. I use it for anything from clean blues to loud and obnoxious fuzz laden sounds so heavy it sounds like the pedals will melt. It has a beautiful clean but won't get as sparkly and the brightest fenders. Speaker pairing should be considered. if you want a brighter sound look for a brighter speaker , else it will have a softer tone. Perfect amp for me. couldn't be more pleased.

    • @tinman8014

      Allan Ardon it does 40watts so not by design, but you can switch down to 0.5watts for bedroom play

    I’m really pleased with mine which I’ve played including on stage with a big soul band for more than two years. It is nearer to a Fender than anything else but it is definitely ‘its own man’ when it comes to sound (distinctive as here). It’s great with or without pedals. For agreeable crunch, put the Master Vol at nine o’clock and the Volume to 10. I went for the 6L6 valves which I agree with another reviewer are slightly darker than EL34. It is plugged into a Montage ported cab with a Celestion A Type, American sounding speaker, chosen for the Motown and Stax numbers we play. Because it is ported the cab really let’s out all the sound energy ‘effortlessly’. Montage cabs are incredible value for money, well made and free of buzz and rattle. The digital reverb has none of the horrible nasal quality of spring reverb. Loads of power at 7watts… enough for live work leaving the PA to do the heavy lifting. It also smells nice hot😉 Nothing not to like 👍
    Oh yes. I use an ES355 guitar with a Varitone switch. This enables five different levels of capacitance to be applied. Using positions 3 4 & 5 removes any excess ‘darkness’ when needed. Folks moan about the Varitone thing but I just don’t know why.

    I am one of those people (who play predominantly clean). All I own is a delay pedal, a reverb pedal and a chorus/vibe pedal. It is great fun. However, even I crank my amps a bit sometimes.

    I don't think it sounded horrible through the clean speaker. I mean it's not a very sweet sound but it's certainly useable in the right context in recording, especially in double tracking.

    That blown tube wouldn't seem such a big deal but Phillip McKnight who had a retail store mentioned he also found quality control issues with Victory amps. Of course Chapman never mentions these things but it's still a bad look on Victory if these issues are a common thing. Nice that they fixed it for you quickly & were honest about it at least. Great sounding amp!

      Not trying to be the devil's advocate but... It would be interesting to know if people in Europe and especially in the UK have this same problem with bad valves. It could just be due to it being shipped across the Atlantic after all, valve amps are quite fragile. Now that I think about it if the problem really is that why doesn't this happen in Europe with American amps (or does it? Honestly have no idea)?

    • @stephen9944
      @stephen9944 6 років тому

      My V40 bought in Canada came with 4 broken valves, broken power LED and required all of the valve sockets to be either replaced or re-soldered. It's been a year since and it's still a bit noisy but it does sound pretty damn good cranked with a KTR.

    I had exactly the same weird noise coming from my Laney Lionheart LT20. After hours of searching google and UA-cam for possible causes, none of which sounded anything like my noise I contacted Laney. They asked for a sound clip which took me forever to record as every time I hit the record button, the noise stopped. Eventually I succeeded, guess what , dodgy preamp valve.

  • @TobyDN1982

  • @DerEchteBold
    @DerEchteBold 7 років тому

    I completely understood it the way that the 'preheat' stands for middle position, what else should it mean? But maybe they could write all three positions above or below the switch to avoid misunderstandings.
    I'd say you don't need that written on at all, everybody who uses such amps will figure out that the middle position is 'standby', wether they're allowed to call it that or not.

    I'm new to the pedal platform thing..I have a Hughes and Keltner grandmeister 40 and it's cool for rock and metal but I'd like to be able to be more versatile. I love that Texas tone and I want to be able to access that. If anyone could give me advice I'd appreciate it. I just purchased a v40 duchess , probly gonna grab a Friedman deluxe pedal for my moded Marshall tones. But I'm not well versed in the tube sceamer and blues driver territory. I was thinking King tone soloist and and jhs bonsai for my Texas tones. I've done much research but it seems like there are do many overdrives and boosts out there my head is spinning..anyone got any suggestions? I have a 96 lonestar strat with the pearly gates hb and Texas special single coils and plan on grabbing a silver sky. Please help !!

      You need it to fix your vocal tracks. When you have to decide between "honesty" and not causing irreparable damage to your audience, the latter has to win. Otherwise quite a fine track, I enjoyed it.
