The public needs to be aware of what’s a happening to the field as well. Who wants to go to a therapist who is obsessed with politics, and may be more concerned with how I voted than actually, genuinely helping me.
Institutional capture is a huge problem. I’m so glad Karen got out and is blowing the whistle. She is so calm and measured. I know exactly how she felt when she said, how do you assume to know who I’m voting for? It’s like a test to see if the client gets triggered. Affirmed 💯
Maybe I can finally begin to practice! You've been so helpful to me over the past couple years. I do feel a sigh of relief right now for the first time in years.. Much lighter as people feel safer speaking their feelings. What we as therapists have been tasked to elicit. It has been too much for me to hold my position of neutrality with so few others around me sharing that approach and I am hopeful things are changing. Any suggestions of groups/mentoring I can seek out for support in this decision? I would love to talk with others who also share this view.

I graduated with my masters in 2013. Things were getting cranked up back then. I've worked for 11 yrs without license (lmhc). With the state of things, it's tough to want to study, test and get it without drinking the kool-aid
A general skepticism about the ability of politics to improve your life is probably the best working model! Skepticism is different from cynicism. I think Helen Pluckrose and James Lindsay's book "Cynical Theories" really hit the nail on the head. Critical Social Justice is deeply deeply cynical about the ability of human beings to use reason to come up with less bad outcomes.
