  • Short video of my first trip out 4-wheeling with the R2.8 Bronco. Trail was the T33A crash trail near Ward, CO. The R2.8 did very well, running cool at 178°F with very little cycling of the engine fan even though temps were in the mid-90s. Lots of low end torque for crawling. The computer feels like it aggressively adds fuel near idle speed, making the engine feel un-stall-able.
    Truck details:
Cummins R2.8, ZF-5 transmission, 6:1 Atlas, FW D44/9inch locked with ARBs. Custom coil/linked suspension.

Awesome video! Just read your latest post on Classic Broncos, and immediately looked on your channel and wasn’t disappointed. This only gets me more excited to start this swap in my ‘73 Bronco. Sounds like the R2.8 and Tremec TR4050 should arrive sometime in August, can’t wait to get started on the swap. Keep the videos coming, great stuff!

Looks like it works really well, but it sounds like you're wheeling a Kubota tractor... ;) FWIW, I just scored a 2.8L CRD Liberty for my nephew. He's pretty excited. I forgot how nice the powertrain is... I'd like to get a wrecked one and toss the engine/trans/t-case in the Comanche... Any update on what kind of mileage you are seeing from your Bronco now that you've got some miles on it?

Average is 23 mpg, lowest is 22, best is 24.5 mpg. Only one trip towing, but got 17 mpg with hardsided camper going through the mountains.

Your Bronco is looking great! Last time I saw you you were working on the cage. I built a full size and would love to get out and wheel with you and catch up! Rich

Good to hear from you. Just getting it back together so should be ready for the spring. I’m going to the Moab Bronco Safari again this May so you should come out.

Beautiful. I plan on putting one in my 89 Ranger. Did you do the work? Can you roughly estimate the cost to have to work in your details done including parts?

Yes, did all the work myself. Can't speak to the cost precisely, but a shop would likely charge $10k-$15k in labor to do it right.
Parts-wise, you need an engine, transmission adapter, custom engine mounts, and a lot of custom plumbing and wiring.
