Geoff Castellucci is One of the Divine Trinity of acapella Basses. The other two being Avi Kaplan (solo, formerly Pentatonix) and Time Foust (Home Free). All three also can sing really high for basses, and top out in the 4-5 octave range.
Welcome to the bass singers in acapella groups. Geoff the bass of VoicePlay has his own channel with a cover of “Blackbird” I love. VoicePlay sings some non-costume songs like their recent “You’ve got a friend”. Also try Home Free with their bass Tim Foust in their cover of “Ring of Fire”. That one also features Avi Kaplan the former bass singer of Pentatonix. #subscriptionsquad
I came here to say the same thing. LoL definitely needs to check out home free, and voice play is good too. Both have their own awesomeness about them.
Geoff's brother-in-law played Santa. But I believe the voice was dubbed by one of the other group members. I don't know which one. When Voiceplay does covers of "ordinary" songs, sometimes their video visuals are pretty simple. But when it's showtunes, they go all out. Costumes, makeup, character voices, greenscreen, whatever. For songs where they're using just their primary singing voices, so you have something to critique, I suggest Can't Help Falling In Love, Tennessee Whiskey, Carry On Wayward Son, or Go The Distance. For another showtune production just for funsies, try You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch. #Subscriptionsquad
It so fun! it took me almost 2 years, but now i can sing down there with him too. if you want i recommend you do watch his tips videos cause they do work.
I love how the reactors lack critical information that my mans is able to go more than an octave lower than that. This is sub E1 and his lowest recorded sub is like a C#0 or something, which is literally outside the range of a grand piano. He doesn't usually go that far though, he stops at around B0 - A0 in Voiceplay songs
Both Tim Faust (the bass for Home Free) and Avi Kaplan (formerly the bass for Pentatonix) have said that they think Geoff Castellucci is a much better, deeper bass than either of them -- capable of reaching lower notes than either of the two of them -- which is a claim that Geoff refuses to accept as true. The truth is that all three of them are friends and none of them have a competitive relationship with one another.
yep Geoff learned from Tim how to hit the lower notes, Geoff didn't know how before to do the low growl which Tim does so Geoff had Tim teach him that method so now Geoff can hit those lower notes easier he never heard of doing that before he listened to Tim. But even such talented people do a lot of practice, Geoff has said he's been working on it for years and still isn't quite great with it, it takes a lot of practice to fine tune such techniques.
Love the reaction. I couldn't believe Geoff went that low. I thought it was just done post production to make the tone that low, but then I heard them perform this live... and he does it live. It's freaky.
@@paulstelian97 I have seen the cases where Geoff is using subharmonics and whoever is doing the video edit overlaying that he's hitting a B0, but he's not actually hitting a B0. He's hitting a B1 with subharmonic register, which simulates the rumbly, low resonating effect a B0 has but its in the key of B1. Same with Tim Foust of Home Free. They've never hit a true A0 or B0. I think Geoff's lowest note in song that i've seen/heard is maybe an E1, which is lower than a B1, because the scales change on C notes, not A's. A0, B0, C1, D1, E1, F1, G1, A1, B1, C2, etc. But you're right, it just doesn't sound human at all, and the fact Geoff is only like 6' 180-190lbs doing it is even more freakish.

What I like about them the most is how you can feel that each member is having so much fun doing their parts. It really makes a difference when you can see that
Love your reaction! Geoff is amazing, he is a very low and high singer, he has like a 5 octave range, but as for the extreme low note he actually did a video showing how he did it. He has a cool way to play with the mic and air in the room along with his voice to get the note to sound lower than what it is. But with that said he is absolutely awesome and definitely not human. Keep the reactions coming!

Dude, Geoff is pretty much literally the best XD He always brings it, whether he's hitting the low bass or going up higher. Heck, he's even got a solo channel, where he'll layer himself four or five times in the video, singing all of the different parts. He did a great job with The Headless Horseman, but my favorite is his cover of the song Sixteen Tons... so you might need to look into that one. That high tenor that you were geeking out over is Earl, who left the group over a year ago. Sadly, JNone (their baritone) has just left the group himself... and they hadn't even had a chance to set a permanent replacement for Earl yet, so at the moment, VoicePlay only has three permanent members in it, though they may be close to closing with a new high tenor, named Deejay Young. I'm close to giving him my full seal of approval, I just need to see him in one of their more theatrical pieces like this one in order to 100% endorse him. And yes, Geoff blows the bottom out of the basement. He doesn't just have a bass range, he's actually skilled with subharmonics, and even goes into how subharmonics work on his solo channel.
You should definitely check out Home Free's cover of "One Voice" featuring the song's original artist Billy Gilman. It's a great message on mental health.

Gotta love Geoff and his low notes. Most bases drop into the basement when they sing, but Geoff is one of very few who dives down and cracks the foundation. And makes it look effortless.
I know you said you've never heard a vocalist go lower than the E1 in this song, but this same bass actually went lower in the Little Mermaid Medley you reacted to before (D1 subharmonic), you couldn't really hear it because it was double tracked under a strong D2 at the end of his big slide starting from D5 (!!!). There's a video on UA-cam of the D1 isolated without the D2 tracked over it if you're interested in hearing it.
D - When you're ready for another powerhouse a cappella group, Home Free will amaze you. Whereas VP has lost 2 members and is down to a group of 3, Home Free has maintained the same lineup for 5 years. That time it was hard for him because he wasnt that familiar with subharmonics back then, but in blackbird its 10x better. So i understand where u are coming from
Voiceplay's Just Sing is a good introduction to the group and a few of their a Capella friends. Remember to turn on Closed Captioning for this one. All of the songs that they have done with Rachael Potter are great.

Welcome to the lovely world of subharmonics. I have been practicing them since learning how they work and I still suck after almost a year. Geoff is INSANE!
I have watched so many vocalists/vocal coaches' jaws drop when geoff hits that subharmonic E01, and actually go back to make sure they had heard correctly. Its so great!
I am a patreon member on Geoff's page and asked him about if any of them were in theater growing up. He actually replied back (big squeal of excitement) saying most of them were in chorus but had interest in theater.
If you like those low notes, you should check out Bass Battles. There are several of them. Most feature Tim Faust, Geoff Castellucci, and Avi Kaplan. However, there are some that have Matt Salee and other artist both new and old. Both Tim and Avi have blown out speakers during performances with their low notes, always makes the crowd go wild.
Great reaction and you should listen to their version of The Phantom of the Opera if you are a true theatre buff. You won't regret it. #subscriptionsquad
First off I just want to say I loved your reactions to Voiceplay so far. Second if you liked those you should react to Geoff's covers that he does by himself they are amazing every single one of them. And last but certainly not least so happy to be a part of the #SubscriptionSquad to one of the most beautiful reactors on all of youtube😘
Wow. Santa had a VIP a capella session with amazing performers! Lucky guy. Except... of course, for the fact that he was tied in an uncomfortable chair, being threatened to become stew ingredient... A mere detail.
Definitely ear candy and a great showcase for Geoff's range, especially that 4-5 octave spread at the very end. I'm glad you showed off your ear "buds" because I was going to suggest them. First time seeing you but loved your reaction. You are right about their theatrical ability. Of the big 4 acapella groups on UA-cam, VoicePlay (5 members, all male) definitely seems to be the most theatrical, has unique arrangments, and I think several of the members worked for the theme parks in Orlando, FL near where they live. Additionally, their wacky sense of humor shows through quite often in their videos and their performances or interviews. They do covers but I haven't heard anything original from them. Voctave is also based in the same area, has the same theme park background, is slightly less theatrical in their UA-cam videos, but has a larger mixed group (anywhere from 8 to 15 from what I've seen) and, uniquely, no beatboxer. Again, covers only from them. Pentatonix (5 member mixed group) helped (with Pitch Perfect) bring acapella music back to the front-and-center for the modern viewer and music connoseur, paved the contemporary social media platform for everyone else, has innovative signature-style arrangements, and has the largest audience world-wide; to see their sense of humor, you have to wander over the 'Superfruit', a separate channel by 2 of the members. This group does mostly covers with some original material. HomeFree (5 members; all male) has cornered the market on (and perhaps invented altogether) the country acapella sound but can certainly hold their own in R&B ("End of the Road'), rap ("The Butts Remix"), gospel ("How Great Thou Art" and Peter Hollens' "Amazing Grace"), pop ("Country-Fried Pop Medley," "Life Is a Highway"), assorted ("All About that Bass," "My Church," and "Mayday"), patriotic (Lee Greenwood and the USAF Singing Sergeants "God Bless the U.S.A."), children's ("Try Everything"), romance ("When a Man Loves a Woman"), straight-up harmony ("Helplessly Hoping"), and of course, country ("Ring of Fire" with Avi Kaplan, Oak Ridge Boys' "Elvira," "Meet In the Middle," "Take Me Home, Country Roads," Don McLean's "American Pie," "Go Rest High on that Mountain), ...). Their wack-a-doodle sense of humor is on display at all times and their beatboxer, Adam Rupp, has his own solo on UA-cam that can make anyone a beatboxing believer and rumbles the theater at all performances; he's one of the best in the world. Look forward to more acapella. Definitely haul them back out around the holidays because all of them have great Christmas music. #subscriptionsquad
My Mother Told Me is awesome...also check out Voctave. Another group that will blow your mind...and Home Free also! Dont stop now you're already halfway down the rabbit hole....
Voiceplay is great and your reactions are fantastic! Some other great voiceplay songs are there "queen medley" or "my mother told me". If you ever want another great accapella group you should also check out home free, they are a country accapella group !!! #SubscriptionSquad
You'll be getting a lot of requests for Home Free. I strongly recommend waiting to do their cover of 'Mayday' by CAM. They have a surprise in that video that goes over the heads of people new to them. I would make sure to watch at least a few other videos from them before doing Mayday. I recommend their covers of "Man Of Constant Sorrow', 'Some Girls Do', 'The Butts Remix' (that ones really funny), 'End Of The Road' and their original songs, 'Champagne Taste On A Beer Budget' and 'Why Not'.
The Santa Claus is one of Geoff's neighbors. This was his first time doing anything like this. Also you should check out "face vocal band". Hallelujah and waiting for the end to come are a couple of my favorites.
Santa was played by Geoffs brother in law if I remember right. Look at Take me home Country roads by Geoff Castellucci (his page where he talks about singing that low and has many solo songs)
@Danielle Marie Sings Santa is played Geoff's brother-in-law, who is also a singer himself. The high voice you heard and loved is Earl Elkins (guy with the beard), who is no longer with them, but was SO amazing!!
i love Geoff's 4+ Octave run in the end of this..... although if you want to see the bottom of Geoff's range and just how impressive he really is, check out Valhalla calling, he holds a b0 for around 10 seconds in the first minute of that song...
I don't know about Voice play as a group, but Geoff, their bass has some stuff he has made on his own that I'd love for you to have a look at. He did his own cover of Sixteen Ton, Misty Mountains and Blackbird, each of them lovely. You might also want to check out his version of Headless Horseman sometime.
Those last notes of Geoff's, its like his voice drops to the floor, decides to sink into the basement, and then thinks, 'what the heck?' and puts on its mining gear, cracking through the Earth's crust.
Hell, there would be no way she could voice coach me. I'd be too mesmerised by those eyes, I could drown in them. The last note was a B1, I can hit it too, but without the amount of power that Geoff has. He's a trained singer though while I'm not. I love to hear Geoff sing, I often sing along with him, especially Misty Mountains Cold. He does a lot of videos of him in multiple roles from low bass to almost a soprano, he has an amazing voice range. I also listen to his coaching videos on how to sing low notes, I've learned quite a lot from his videos.

Bruh his lowest note in this song was E1 and his lowest note in Blackbird was E1. He hit the same note
The last note was a B1, that's the lowest Geoff will admit to going although it is rumoured tht he hit A1 once, but he denied it.
@@Tryst46 it is actually E1
Voiceplay's Just Sing is a good introduction to the group and a few of their a Capella friends. Remember to turn on Closed Captioning for this one. All of the songs that they have done with Rachael Potter are great.
4th Impact brought me here so I decided to subscribe and put like. Thanks for the reaction.

Welcome to the lovely world of subharmonics. I have been practicing them since learning how they work and I still suck after almost a year. Geoff is INSANE!
Use your big headphones when you listen, but Geoff has several Bass covers including 16 tons.
that last part I think I listened 10 times in a row because that vibration shook me, love it.
I have watched so many vocalists/vocal coaches' jaws drop when geoff hits that subharmonic E01, and actually go back to make sure they had heard correctly. Its so great!
I am a patreon member on Geoff's page and asked him about if any of them were in theater growing up. He actually replied back (big squeal of excitement) saying most of them were in chorus but had interest in theater.
voiceplay always makes a song/cover their "own" way!
They have a new one out!! My mother told me!! The BASS in this is 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
What I appreciate is that they didn't all do their purest voices, but did character voices on top of the body language and face acting
You think that's low... Tim Foust from Home Free has broken a speaker from going full subwoofer at a country fair before lol
I love your reactions, Brilliant. :) Welcome to the subterranean world of Geoff;'s subharmonic skills.
When you get settled in in Texas you need to check out Home Free - Thinking Out Loud / Let's Get It On (Ed Sheeran and Marvin Gaye)
You are the third professional I've heard say it's the lowest note they've ever heard. He is awesome in the truest sense.
Loved your surprise at the second to last note only to be surprised even further. I had the same reaction.
I think you would get chills from 'run to you' cover by Pentatonix
Love the song, love Voiceplay and love your reaction 🎶❤️🎶
I loved your reactions throughout this song. Almost as fun to see as the video, itself.
Voiceplay is great and your reactions are fantastic! Some other great voiceplay songs are there "queen medley" or "my mother told me". If you ever want another great accapella group you should also check out home free, they are a country accapella group !!!

A great song to check out for Geoff is his cover of Blackbird which shows off his range very well, and his newest cover of Misty Mountains
Look up Geoff's cover of 16 Tons, or some of his other solo stuff, it is crazy.
You should react to, This is Halloween by VoicePlay. You can hear more of their character voices.
Santa was played by Geoffs brother in law if I remember right.
Look at Take me home Country roads by Geoff Castellucci (his page where he talks about singing that low and has many solo songs)
Anything Geoff does honestly react to his solo videos you won’t be disappointed
You DEFINITELY have to react to Geoff's cover of Sixteen Tons
A great one to hear everyone is voiceplay’s boybands in five minutes
Just back to show some love dear! Your reactions to this one was so so much fun! Much hearts!♥
@Danielle Marie Sings Santa is played Geoff's brother-in-law, who is also a singer himself. The high voice you heard and loved is Earl Elkins (guy with the beard), who is no longer with them, but was SO amazing!!
Awesome videos and break downs! So happy you found Voice Play!! Can't wait for more. #Subscriptionsquad
just wait until you hear Geoff Castellucci's cover of 16 tons or Blackbird by the beatles
i love Geoff's 4+ Octave run in the end of this..... although if you want to see the bottom of Geoff's range and just how impressive he really is, check out Valhalla calling, he holds a b0 for around 10 seconds in the first minute of that song...
First time to watch this OMG she looks just like Lisa Franks from original Celtic women. And that is a BIG compliment!!!

New subscriber (thanks to the voiceplay reaction) if you really want a shock you should react Geoffs (bass) cover of headless horseman gives me chills every time I listen to it
