Apple Watch SE (2022) - Don't Be Fooled!

- Опубліковано 27 вер 2024
- Apple just released the brand new Apple Watch SE which is a departure from the last Apple Watch SE because it now has the same performance as the flagship Series 8 Watch with its S8 processor. It also gets a new car crash detect features, and a bunch of software improvements in watchOS 9 including a low power mode for 38 hours of battery life, and a redesigned compass app. However, is this watch really worth it with its older design compared to the Series 8, and will you miss out by not having the latest health sensors?

What is better for the same price? Apple watch 1. gen 44 mm and cellular or se 2. gen 40 mm wihtout cellular
If you already have a better Apple Watch (I don't use Apple products), why use the SE 2?
Got the original SE last September and it was pretty good for the price, didn't see the extra value in paying more for a series 7, and it's still really snappy in day to day use. Charging is a little slow but it makes up for it with its excellent battery life
I got mine when the Series 6 released… Still running strong and not gonna replace it this year…
How long does it last?
@@blankets1453 I easily get a full day out of it, could probably get two days but I usually charge it when I'm sleeping
Right! I got myself the S7 just because I am a more technical and active person so I do use and take advantage of everything. But I recently got my dad a watch so we can keep each other accountable for activity and my dad loves the SE. I didn't think it wouldn't be liked but with the person my dad is, price doesn't matter but the experience will either make or break it and the SE hits everything an apple watch needs and more.
Excellent 18hours battery life 🤡
Didn’t care of all the extra features so I went and grabbed the se2 in midnight. This should last for me awhile especially that it has the s8 chip. This was a no brainer for me
What did you upgrade from?
The s8 chip is actually the chip from Series 6 lol
@@bigsur370 says who? Where did you see that?
@@emilsecker7881 did you not watch the video? He legit said that LMAO
@@emilsecker7881 It is indeed the same CPU and memory! They have other stuff integrated in the chip that probably has changed over the years but the core is the same.
I decided to buy the SE2 because in Europe it was the best investment (Series 7 wasn’t discounted much) and I love it A LOT! It’s super fast, I compared it with the Series 7 and 8 and the extra 2 sensors (O2 and temperature) and always on display weren’t worth double the price (299 euros for the SE2 vs 399 for the Series 7 vs 499 for the Series 8). If you haven’t tried an Apple Watch, I think you might love it, I initially bought it to use it for fitness tracking and I have found countless opportunities where I use it on the daily. Hope my experience helps some of you!
Can you reply with personalized text in SE2?
Thanks
Yes Admir
@@LitRandomness thank you. I bought one SE 2 ( GPS +Celular) for 379 Euro ata Amazon , but send it back after 4 days. Battery drained very fast.
O2 sensor, temp sensor, ekg data is just gimmicky and you are on point. It is not worth buying the series 8 at 2x price. In india series 8 is 3.5x times of se2
I'm actually glad the SE exists, as it lets people on low incomes test the waters without spending an entire month's disability check on the higher end watches. Even with my vision, (low vision), I'm able to use the SE's accessibility features to access this watch. I have a heart condition, and wish the SE had the ECG capability of the higher end watches, but it at least has the ability to let me know if there's a problem. At my age, the fall detection feature is a must have. Thanks for sharing.
@@IsaacMazur Get critically ill, blind, and disabled, and loose your freaking job, and you'll find out,
The Apple Watch 8 is dope! But, after getting the SE, I’m super happy! The nylon back looks so good, it’s lighter than the 8, and noticeable. The screen size doesn’t bother me, it’s a fast watch, I got the cellular version, and I love leaving my iPhone behind while I go out with my friends, dinner with my wife, work, etc… it’s super nice for my mental health. The only feature I wish I had was a blood oxygen sensor. The SE is a perfect balance and value.
Getting a Fitbit for the fitness tracking
I'm good with my SE gen1. It does everything I need it to do. I'm keeping it until apple no longer sends updates for it.
I do the same 👍.
Exactly… bought my SE 3 weeks ago on sale… I am happy with it
Preordered the SE in 2020, never felt that it needed an upgrade. Have the iPhone 14 pro though.
Same
I was in the market for an SE2 or Series 8 after finally upgrading from my Series 1 (which is still on watchos6…). I ended up really liking the more premium design of the Apple Watch Series 8 and although the SE2 was enough of an upgrade for me, I feel like I’d always stay wanting more so I ended up buying a preowned Series 7 in starlight in really good condition and 98% battery health for £220! It was an absolute steal and I’d seriously recommend trying to find a really well priced Series 7. I saw it averagely between £240-£290.
The only downside and the thing that made me return it is Those insanely huge bezels, it makes everything look like some knockoff
I have the Apple Watch Series 7 Nike edition, and I love all of the features that it has. I was excited to see what the series 8 was going to bring to the table, and have to admit that I was completely underwhelmed. Temperature tracking for ovulation does absolutely nothing for me, since I am a man. Now, if the temperature sensor was able to give you a read out on the spot to let you know if you are sick or something, that would be a game changer. And then the added crash detection, it’s just not enough new features to warrant an upgrade. Now, if we later find out that the temperature sensor CAN work in that fashion, perhaps I’ll consider it.
You have a series 7. Of course you would be disappointed 😂
I think future’s update will enable it
The temperature sensor can tell when you are sick. I own one and I’ve seen many posts on reddit when the S8 or Ultra detected their sickness.
I think Apple watch SE is more than enough for a normal user. I miss only one feature that is the always on display, else its perfectly fine.
I upgraded from series 5 and I liked always on display but honestly I use focus mode on my watch and at night that feature turned off in sleep mode so the se 2 was the perfect fit for my iPhone 14 pro
How about the missing keyboard? Is that a deal breaker?
"Nylon composite" is definitely a diplomatic way of saying plastic lol. Not necessarily a bad thing though
I still have my SE and I wear it daily, even with the new updates it really is fast and smooth enough that I don't really see a need to upgrade to the SE2. I was seriously hoping that the SE2 would end up having the smaller bezels that the S7 and now S8 have, but it didn't. Honestly I would say if you're looking for a first time apple watch you could snag the first SE for an even greater discount. It still works perfectly fine and the speed is really not something most people are going to notice.
UPDATE: I ended up trading in my SE on the Apple Store to buy an S8. If you have your watch on you all the time, the upgrade is worth it. Noticeably less laggy, charges significantly faster, and the battery lasts longer too. And the flashlight seems to get brighter than before. The bigger screen is also a plus, although I haven’t noticed it as much As I was hoping I would on the watch faces mainly. But the keyboard is actually great and the swipe to type gestures work surprisingly well.
I really like my new se 2. It’s my first ever Apple Watch and I’m stoked to have one. I got it as an anniversary gift from my husband. It has a sleep app that I installed and I use the heart app. It’s cool.
I am a first time Apple watch wearer. I have the SE and am so excited about it. It was easy to set up and to use, I am enjoying it very much!
Greg, I like your videos, but the "Don't be fooled" titles are getting out of hand. Honestly... you can do better than that! I lose interest whenever I read that silliness.
It’s definitely an upgrade from S3 i traded from. Bigger screen
Sold! I just purchased one as a Christmas present (for myself 😀). Thanks for the video!
My original Watch SE still functions perfectly so I’m going to hang onto it. It does what I need it to do. I was looking at the SE2 but will pass on it for now.
Well I decided to go ahead and upgrade to the new Watch SE2 (for myself) after getting a new Watch SE2 for a family member as a gift.
When basic doesn't mean less. Had it for over a year and it work as needed. Still looks great.
The good thing about not getting new chips every year is older watches don't slowdown due to heavier OS.
Bought the Series 7 last year. But if I was in the market for my first smart watch right now or upgrading from a really old one, this is an absolute not brainer IMO.
Meaning what? You’d go with the SE (2)? Or the 8?
It does look like a good upgrade from the series 3. However, I just can't stop thinking of how much watch I can get for that amount of $$$, and more importantly, the thought of paying hundreds of dollars for a watch that I have to charge pretty much every day is a huge quality of life regression imo. There are tons of useful features, but I'm still waiting for the day when we need to charge them once a week. At that point I'd seriously consider.
I doubt a watch with such a battery will be here soon… However, I think from a series 3 it would be worth upgrading to a new Apple Watch, just for the faster chips since even the previous SE doesn’t really need to load much at all… I don’t know for sure but a friend of mine recently upgraded from a series 3 and he said he noticed a lot of difference in loading time
@@casvandijk03 some Fitbit smartwatches can get to 5+ days of battery life
@@Pea-G but are they capable of what an Apple Watch or a Samsung Gear watch is capable of? More capabilities = More power requirement…
@@casvandijk03 yes, some of their smartwatches have temperature sensors, oxygen level sensors, and ecg (take the ecg part with a grain of salt since I’m not sure) now, are they as compatible with the iPhone as Apple Watches? No but still, they’re very close
I would not consider buying until at least 7-10 days battery life on a single charge is standard
I’m 79 and want the health sensors but younger people really don’t need them.
I mean.. there are younger people with congenital heart defects and such too you know
I will get the se2. Always on display is the only feature missing from the se2 and only one I would want.
Buy a used Series 6. Same chip, same design, has an always-on display.
AOD consume a lot of power meaning expect battery to get drained more and meaning again that it will faster fuck up the battery count.
@@helloworld9124 You can turn it off if you really don't want the AOD, but it's a nice feature.
@@NoTimeForNoodles nice feature to have but not with how apple impose those battery, they have other competitors with AOD that last up until weeks, they purposely put a weak battery for the need of upgrade every year.
My rules is to go back a few years and take advantage of depreciation. Watching that old review as if that older model is released now helps to get rid of mental biasis
I picked up the SE Gen 2 in Midnight and its perfect for what I need. Thanks for the review.
I’m getting one for my mom so she can stop losing her phone lol I hope she loves it
Who doesn't want the Ultra, but I settled with this one because I still work from home and then go to the gym & grocery store...the SE is probably more than I need for now.
Because of the latest Series 7,8, SE 1, SE 2 are more expensive, I got the Series 5 and my own Series 6 is the final Apple Watch since I will give the Series 5 to my eldest brother to used it.
What the difference between the SE 1st generation and the 2nd Generation?
I have the Apple Watch 1st generation and probably thinking of updated if I will like to the the features for the 2nd generation to make my decision.
@@michelleramos1452 ok can you trade in your old one for a new one?
I never had an iWatch in my life and i want one..Now,the always on display and the less bazzles on the series 8 is reason enough to purchase myself an series 8..
I've had my first time Apple watch SE for quite a few months now and I love it. The only thing is I keep forgetting to turn on "Outdoor Walk" before I leave to go walking. I had a Fitbit before this Apple and it measured my steps, however, I love that I upgraded to the Apple watch SE!!!
My Gen 0 finally is coming to end of life with battery life (no longer gets full day). I believe Gen 0 was testimony to quality: battery lasted to today, I actively swam with it etc (technically isn’t waterproof). What a positive experience it has been!
Ended up getting this watch and iPad for free when I bought my IPhone 14 pro, I been wanting a new Apple Watch but never knew which one to get. I still love my Apple Watch Series 3 but I’m glad that I was able to get an SE 2.
Still rockin' the SE from 2020 (or was it 2021?) since last August. I like the ceramic back better with the silver frame as it gives it this black and white vibe instead of mostly white. Plus, the new one doesn't have a bunch more features compared to the one I have, so upgrading is out of the question.
Definitely not worth the upgrade from the last SE, but a great watch for new apple watch owners.
@@GregsGadgets Agreed!
Ugh I wish they’d just call it the SE the SE2 and the new one the SE3
Just upgraded to the Series 7 a week before I post this reply. Much needed for practicality!
Thank you for the video. I’m upgrading from the 3 and am torn between the SE and SE2. Pros for SE: USB-A charger, Price, And it appears as though the back is the same as the S3 that I know my skin isn’t irritated by. Pros for SE2: Chip, Crash Detection and the price isn’t much more than the SE. I have to decide by Monday. 😅
Never had an Apple Watch before but always used an iPhone. I just need it for quicker Apple pay, to tell the time, and to give me a few notifications, nothing fancy. Getting this new SE also because I want years of updates. $249 hard to beat.
My SE 2022 is my new “best friend “ and my 1st entry in the I watch realm
I had a series 4 44mm for a year or so then left the apple ecosystem for a few years just came back and got this SE and it’s exactly what I want and need I don’t need all the fancy gadgets and features that I’ll never need
i think based on my next two paychecks or so i might buy this watch. i really want one because i think it'd be super useful, and i've seen a lot of people using them at work to check their texts without their phone or even just the time. i feel like it'd help me with that and allow me to peak every now and then without my boss getting bothered i have my phone out. also, today in class this girl next to me was changing her music on it- i didnt know you could do that. funny enough that made me want one though- im very much a music enjoyer and the concept of being able to toggle it with my watch sounds super nice.
Go for it, there’s a lot of useful things you can do on it.
The only real noticeable difference are 3 things. Always on display, thinner bezels and the Ultra wide band
that keyboard on the series 8 looks terrifying..
Haha and they thought the tiny actual buttons on the blackberrys where bad 😂😂
first Apple watch buyer.....the SE is fab, miss a keyboard.
i have a apple watch 7, i'm happy with it. Don't really need anything else.
The crash detection is a joke, every time you bump your watch it calls the cops 😂😂😂
SE2 for 249$ or series 7 for 329$ ?
Series 7 for the always on display and because it looks better (even tho se look good too)
I liked the review because it shows me I'm not missing anything. Apple activity tracking is very decent as long as you don't really use it. The problem with the Apple watches is the absurdly short battery life is you really use it in a multi-hour workout, even the ultra isn't even in the game when it comes to battery life. You should be able too use a watch hard for days without recharging, maybe just limiting GPS. What happens when the watch is a few years old ... oh, that is right, you should buy the new watch then. I'm replacing a Garmin watch that is like seven years old because I have to charge it too often, at least I won't waste a lot on money on a watch that won't even make it through one hard use day.
I don't keep my watch on 24/7. So the time it's off, I charge it. Not a big deal
@@Johnnyiswhere Which means you don't get things like sleep tracking are really know what your resting heartrate is. My point is for serious activity tracking, Apple watches while reasonably accurate aren't reasonably useful. A overnight hike means you have to carry an extra battery and charging cable. That is just crazy. Now, if you just want the watch for the apps and integration into the Apple sphere ... I guess it is fine, sort of, if you don't mind the dismal battery life.
@@wck2150 i agree with you what’s the point of having all those things if your not using them I use watch for lots of things and I charge twice a day lol it’s a Apple Watch 4 I might get the ultra but the 8 is not really a upgrade
Your comments are directly on point.
@@wck2150 this would be true if my watch didn't last overnight...it does. But I personally don't track my sleep so I throw it on the charger ...and when I do it's usually at 65 percent. So I'm not sure what the issue is?
This man always prevents us from being fooled LOL

I just upgraded from the Apple Watch 3 to the SE. Loving it so far!
After my 16 MBP purchase I had to stop watching for a while (to curb my Apple addiction). Now that I’ve given up and accepted im an Apple addict im back.
i just got this for my birthday after never owning an apple watch, or a watch in general ! i really love it so far. as a person that's just getting into fitness and working out, i'm really loving how it motivates me to get up a moving. sure, a fitbit would do the same, but this is really nice !!!
Skip the SE and just get the S7 from your cell carrier! I just picked up a NIB S7 for $240 from TMobile (and since it’s carrier it’s cell/Wi-Fi)
Just bought series 7 midnight. Wowee this is a nice watch. The screen is gargantuan!
Totally helpful video. Thanks for sharing this review!
I was considering getting the 2nd gen Apple Watch, since it started at 249, but I saw Walmart selling the 45mm in green for 300, so I jumped for that one.
great video!
disclaimer: the first-gen Apple Watch SE models sold from Sept 2021-Sept 2022 came bundled with the charging cable with USB-C on one end.
I still have the first se Apple Watch worth the upgrade or wait for se 3 ? Also what exactly do you get with cellular version? You can text without your phone being near you.?
I have my Apple Watch SE since April 2022. I got it just after using a refurbished Apple Watch series 2 for almost 2 years. I did need an upgrade for this one app from my iPhone to used on the Apple Watch to start my vehicle up. I also have a series 1 Apple Watch, too. I have those 2 Apple Watches just in case something gone wrong with the SE. I still used the watch bands from my 2 older Apple watches which they are both 38mm. My Apple Watch SE is in space grey that I got at Target. I’m happy with it.
Good watch I hated the large display on the 7 and I just want the health tracking so se is for me
literally not a fan of apple watch but i got it as christmas gift... not bad very stylish and functional
I need those watch bands
After suffering with Afib for the first time and being told by my Series 6. I would always opt for a watch with ECG functionality
Don't really care for all the extra features, so probably looking into getting the SE2. Although, I would miss out on the always-on display and larger screen size.
Everyone’s different, but for me I found always on display not to be worth it, wasn’t a fan. The larger screen personally didn’t fit my wrist, but if you have wrists that can accommodate then I’d consider it. Though, if you have your phone on you and plan on using it alongside your phone (not by itself on cellular), then I don’t think a larger screen would matter much with your phone there.
@@user-sf9gs2pg1b AOd is worth it every penny
I"m just gonna go to the Apple Store for the ECG!
Thanks for video. It helped me to decide between the SE and the Series 8. Will spend a little more and get the Series 8.
love your honest review on this new Apple SE2. does the low power mode applies to the phased out iWatch7 on Watchos9?
I hate it when companies cut costs to deliver sub-par products.
should we buy se2 or series 7 folks? and when the blood sugar detection feature ever shipped?
I am curious about durability. It would be nice to get new features without having to spend a fortune on a new Apple Watch. Last year I got the Space Black Titanium Edition Series 7. I was gobsmacked when Apple discontinued it. After seeing the Ultra I understand why, but I’m not feeling that price point for a clunky Dick Tracy watch. So I’m gonna keep this one for a while. I just wanted the rainbow Modular face that’s shown in your thumbnail, and I have that now, so… Yaaaayyy!!!
Greg I am going to buy my first Apple Watch. What do you think if I need to buy this as I wanted a affordable one
I personally dont like having the AoD. When you hang around in not so great neighborhoods, it's nice to not draw attention to your wrist if you dont have to.
Just got a refurb series 7 for a little more than the SE. the apple refurbs are a great deal that most people don’t know about
so when are they making a round one
I bought the original SE, and I wasn't doing many workouts at all. However I ended up starting getting into the little bit of fitness features in the SE about 6 months in and when the Series 7 came out I traded up. Ever since I got my Apple Watch I've done on average 1.5 hours of working out (gym for an hour and then misc. workouts), so I'm really grateful that I'm really into data lol. I didn't bother getting the 8 because they used more or. less the same processor as the 6 and 7, and I liked the Ultra but not for $800, when I'm likely getting the 9. I feel like they'll have an "SE" version of the Ultra even though that seems contradictory lol.
Hey! How does the Apple Fitness app work? Is it enough to buy Apple Watch and pair it with your smartphone or do I need to pay for some premium subscription to get all the features (sleep cycles, zones, closing activity rings etc.)? Also- can you control Spotify on your wrist or it works for Apple Music only?
Watch is looking good
If the se had the full keyboard I’d get it
i have a applewatch ultra and its just too bulky and i am looking to get an se as well to use daily so i am a bit miffed on which one to get either the se or series 8 and this video helped alot!!
I recently upgraded from 3 38mm to SE2022 44mm. Super happy with the size and everything, but I'm not sure I feels good on my wrists, like it's slightly itchy from resting on my wrist and it's hard to find a balance between tight and loose. First night I slept with it, I woke up in the midle of the night with minor pains, tried shifting it to the side but still felt uncomfortable so I moved it to the right write. When I woke up I had noticed I had tiny red spot from the sensor!! I searched, and I'm not alone. I think it was from it sitting too tight, but when sleeping you might place your wrist in a way that's pressing on the watch you know.. Haven't happened since. but I'm contemplating sending it back.. It's not even warm outside, I'm curious how it will feel on my wrist in the sun. No one else is complaining about this, so prolly just me. Was thinking that cheap bottom material is not as nice on your skin as the more expensive....
I grabbed the Apple Watch series 8 in the midnight color and I’m loving the new features. I love the always on display and the fast charging and bigger display. I would buy the Apple Watch SE⌚️ if it had fast charging.
They should have done multiple colors like the Mac series.
I’m thankful for the blood oxygen sensor on series 7 it came handy for when I got Covid I had to go to the hospital since my number was getting low
So if you have the original SE hold onto it basically??
What about the heart rate accuracy and burnt calories accuracy? Is it less accurate than the series 7 or 8?
Agreed! SE is all I need
If they put the keyboard I would buy it
I fell and my iwatch started calling emergency by itself but asked me if I want continue or I was ok
I went the green series 7 with cellular.
its funny. The WYZE watch they came out with like 2-4 years ago whenever it was, it has the blood oxygen. And that was like 25$ watch. LOL
I hate the se doesn’t have a keyboard and I’m stuck w/ it bc best buy wouldn’t even let me exchange it bc it was 4 day pass being able to return 😤
I was underwhelmed by the 8 so last week I bought a refurbished 7 from Apple. It came with the USB C plastic charging puck and I had a feeling it wasn’t fast charging. I’ll be having a chat with Apple about this.
Update - I was near an Apple Store today so I went in and explained. They gave me a retail packaged fast charge cable with no fuss, and even let me keep the original cable. Great customer service as always.👍🏻
@@TrailBikeMike but why did they add the worse charger first?

Does s7 have battery saving properties. Please don’t get upset with me if Greg answered this as he’s a little fast and I’m s little slow at 70.
Buying a watch for fall detection and heart health.
I'm upgrading from a Garmin watch with always on (but awful) transreflective display.
I look at it many times during the day at various angles, idk, to me it's crucial to have AOD to see the time at any moment without raising the hand
*me still with the series 3 while having the latest phone, laptop, and computer*
and honestly? the only reason i have to currently upgrade that i care about is the better sleep tracking, and always on display… but i already have a leather and metal bands for this one…. and it would be a haste to switch….. and it’s a lot of money for those 2 things….. i think im good honestly
The only thing i used on my loaner series 3 was voice commands and texting. Ill never pay more than 50 dollars for a contraption like this. When the price his exacly that point i will adopt one.
