Whether you have just bought your first Apple Watch or are upgrading from an older generation, this is the video for you! Today I will cover everything you need to know, from using the watch along with some neat tips and tricks, to going through the essential settings to change to optimise performance and battery life, to finally a look at the top apps and features of the Apple Watch. I will be demonstrating this on my Apple Watch SE 2 however this also applies to the Apple Watch SE 1 as well as the Apple Watch Series 6, 7 and Series 8. Swipe from left to right to switch between watch faces. Press and hold on watch face and swipe (or use digital crown) to right to add a new watch face (can also be done on iPhone). Show adding/customising a new watch face
Range of watch faces, some with many complications to show lots of data, others are more clear and look more like a traditional timepiece. Pro tip, use less complications to save battery. Essential gestures. Top down, notifications. Bottom up, control centre. Quick access to many features and see battery percentage. Turn on/off low power mode, new with WatchOS 9 will turn off non essential features for up to 36 hrs of use - good for travel. Turn on/off wifi. Press digital crown to enter the home screen. Gird of all installed apps. Press again to return to watch face. Install apps right from the built-in apple watch app store. Now that we’ve looked at how to use the watch, let me show you how to setup your watch to maximise battery life, performance and features! Settings app on the watch is good, letting you change the essential settings. However today we are diving deep, so instead will use the Watch app on iPhone to change settings. Notification (only allow important notification on wrist). Turn on auto updates. Watch orientation. Background app refresh (only apps that need it, mail/messages/workout). Enable bedside mode. Enable screenshot. Storage. Display and brightness. Keep brightness in middle (excellent auto brightness). Wake duration (15 sec). Text size (pros/cons). Turn off Hey Siri - save battery, instead use digital crown. I prefer silent mode (haptic feedback) save battery plus does not disrupt others. Erase data: on. Unlock with iP: on. Emergency SOS, turn ON ALL including new crash detection. Now that the Apple Watch settings are setup let's take a look at some of the key Apple Watch apps and features. Play song on iPhone - now playing on AW. Activity rings - move, exercise, stand (love using). Workout app - scroll through tap to start. Weather app - syncs data from iPhone. Calculator - neat tip feature. Heart app. Voice memos. Apple Pay. Create and send new message. Phone dial pad - uses iPhone to make call, GPS+ cellar model can make calls independently. Press side button to access multi tasking. Swipe between open apps. Swipe to left to close an app. Quickly switch between two most recent open apps by double clicking the digital crown. Press and hold side button to turn off, show medical ID or start and emergency call. Alright, that was a long video, congratulations if you made it to the end ;). All of this should give you a good idea on how to setup, optimise and use you new Apple Watch! For me the Apple Watch has become an accessory that I can’t imagine my day without. It is the finer things like, Apple Pay, Maps, receiving Notifications and Siri that make the Apple Watch an essential product I use every day with joy!

It’s still more expensive than a second hand series 6 though, which in many ways is a superior watch. Doesn’t really seem worth it to me.

I just purchased my first Apple Watch, the S7 41MM and I love it. The SE2 is a great alternative, but the ability to actually type a message out is what made me go for the S7.
Favorite use of the Apple Watch is controllling media and music especially. Not having to fumble with phone to adjust and control music is a game changer. Using Apple Watch SE 1 and preparing to purchase with 7 or 8 soon.😊

Omg. I’m another soon to be senior who’s second fit bit versa 3 just bit the dust. Fit bit sent me a new one after the first one died after six months. The new one died 7 months after that. So since I got the extended warranty from Best Buy, they gave me a full refund for it and I’m using that to pay for my new Apple Watch SE 2022. It’s time for quality.

Helpful video. I will definitely be using some of your save battery recommendations. I’ve had my Series 2 for 6 days. I love it! Its my first Apple Watch too. I personally do not like the “Now Playing” app on the watch. I find the volume adjustment latency very annoying and when I lift my wrist for a time check the “Now Playing” is open. The app I like the most is the Sleep app. It’s cool to know when I fall asleep and how much sleep I get.

This SE 2nd gen is my second Apple Watch because my Series 3 was slow and the button kept getting stuck and I didn’t know how to fix it.
What i love the most is the calculator, its on my homescreen and i can use it fast and easy at work.

I think the new UI looks gorgeous from a visual perspective. Updated fonts and colors are definitely a lot more pleasing on the eyes, but the altered/removed functionalities are too much of a drawback to even consider upgrading. Enojoy.
Love the great and detailed explanations and examples. I ride horses and the feature I love is the fall detection. While I ride great horses you still have that time when they spook or whatever and you eat some dirt.

If you have the 'loud sound' feature turned on, isn't it always listening? While it's listening for loud sounds, isn't it always ready to hear "Hey, Siri" and therefore not taking any more battery to have that feature enabled also?

Thanks for this! I just got my Apple Watch SE 2 just under a month ago after upgrading from a Series 2. So far my impressions are great! It's good to have a guide on what features are best for actual use and for good battery life, plus to see what I've missed out on. Shame there's no always on display though, that I really wish this watch had, but I can live without it.
I'll definitely be keeping this watch for 2-6 years. I used my old Series 2 from 2017-2022, and although it had some pretty major scratches on the screen, it never broke. Seriously, Apple Watches are tough cookies, tougher than a lot of people think, and I was pretty hard on that thing.

That's great! Congratulations on the SE 2 :) I'm in the market for a new apple watch, and it would be my very first one. How do you find the charging feature? Does it take a long time? :) Basically I'm debating between SE 2 and series 7. Passing on the series 8 though

Under the sounds, I tried changing my default to prominent for the vibration on my wrist it goes there when but within a few seconds it goes back to default by itself. How do you get it to stay on prominent?
