I've never heard this in church. I've been to church less than 10 times since I was a teen. That said, I don't think I've ever seen a rule stating that this song is barred from churches.
110,000+ at the Monsters of Rock tour at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas 1988. Most memorable moment of the entire concert hearing that many people chant Die! Die! Die! Die!.......
A Metallica song you need to check out is 'The God That Failed'. That song is about the frontman James Hetfield's mother who was a Christian scientist that had cancer but refused treatment and possible survival because she said that God was going to heal her, but she ended up dying because of it. Another is 'Dyers Eve' which is also about James' parents who were very religious and controlling of him. They shielded him from the 'dangerous world' and he was never taught many things or ever learned anything outside of his household's beliefs and morals. They hid him from from the real world, so when he was on his own he was shocked at how the world actually was. I love this channel guys, I'm an Atheist but I love hearing about Christianity and all of the lessons and morals that are taught through it and I hope you guys continue to grow.
I remember a family in my neighborhood, they had two boys, they were younger than my generation, the mother never let them out to play with the kids their age, and my thinking was that she was screwing them.... well15, 20 years later she turned to be rigth, those kids have good jobs, good cars and great lives and most of the kids their age got fucked up into drugs, one got 8 years for dealing drugs and another one make a scene in front of everybody in the street, he had a bad trip or something. So its not so easy as to trow mud at the parents, maybe James will have a different perspective in a few years
I thought you would find that ineresting. Metallica has a couple other songs that I can think of dealing with religion. Leper Messiah. And The Four Horsemen
I'm happy that the pastor "got it". That Metallica are just telling the story and not taking sides, just the facts according to the book. Iron Maiden were really great at this, Piece Of Mind and Powerslave were two records that did History justice as well.
They did a lot of great songs like that. The Trooper was the Charge of the Light Brigade. Aces High was The Battle of Britain. Run to the Hills was the wars on the Indians in the US. They even did classic poetry like The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. We could go on and on. They were awesome.... and still are.
Corey Taylor said it best about Iron Maiden " It was like listening to a history class but they made it interesting!" Pretty much 9/10ths of Maidens catalogue can be referenced to either a film, a poem, a novel or a historical event. If you added up all the songs that DONT reference any of these topics, you MIGHT get 2 albums worth of a material out of 16 lol
Right, Iron Maiden got alot of shit from stupid ass ignorant people about "the number of the beast." It wasn't satanic or anything, it was just a goddamn story being told in the form of a song.
James and Cliff were watching The Ten Commandments and the scene where the fog was rolling in Cliff Burton said " Whoa Creeping Death. " and the song was born
Yep. It was either Cliff or James who said something along the lines of "whoa...creeping death" while they were watching that part. The rest is metal history.

Song was written after Cliff and James were watched classic movie, “The Ten Commandments”. During the movie, Cliff commented on the Angel of Death, by saying, “It’s like Creeping Death”.
Ok, a Metallica fan here, and now a Christian. This song was inspired by the Movie The ten commandments . The sory goes.. they were up late one night, drinking and smoking funny cigarette..LoL. and that inspired the song. That is why you have the words " so let is be writren, so let it be done " , because that is not in the bible. And also why it's called creeping death. In the movie the angel of death was portrayed by a green mist. The guys of Metallica are no big bible followers. So I definitely wouldn't get it twisted into thinking they are a good influence on biblical stories.
James rebelled against religion, especially after his mothers death. But my point was, they didn't write the song out of a biblical conviction to share Gods word.
Many don't know it's inspired by that movie.. very old and long one. Good point out. I'd like to say that though they might not be a good influence .. they are also not a bad influence either. If one feels the need to express how something is not a good influence. I believe it's fair for that person to follow that with saying it is also not a bad influence.. this be way those that read don't automatically think it is a bad influence because you said very vaguely that it wasn't good but did not clarify. That can and will easily persuade the perceptions of others who don't think to a certain degree for themselves, to consider it as bad if not good. When it's neither. It just is. It's not trying to influence. None of the lyrics suggest that and all said was written and all said was done. Hence the song chorus and words "So let it be written - So let it be done." 🍷
David Rice . The band has never set out to influence anyone.. they just wanted to Rock hard , Party ,and live life. My statement was directed to the paster in this video who made the statement that he could see using this song to help explain this story to others. (something like that). My point was ,I wouldn't go that far with. I was a die hard Metallica in my teens. A devoted Christian, and I wouldn't today let my own teen sons get heavily involved in the music. Thats all I was trying to says.
Penny Miles Fair enough. And I agree.. it is too raw a topic of discussion among most religious followers with very little positivity. Not a good idea for a class unless their is a mass of value in the lessons learned and he ends with those lessons while having his class write how those lessons can be applied to their own lives. Other than that I don't see it.. though its true.. its too taboo of a topic the way the song is written and what areas it brings up specifically. Anyway, you just didn't clarify, so I wanted to write that for future readers who see no clarification in that original comment also, so they don't get the wrong idea of the band. Normally I wouldn't care.. but Metallica is a very deep, raw, and enlightening experience if one understands the lyrics that James's writes. I understand the growing and parting ways with though. Had a small phase the same recently actually.. but ended up being more picky and choosing of what I'd listen to and why instead of just discarding. ... Not to say you discarded Metallica...... You are here and we are talking :D hehe
As person who has never read the bible nor really believes in most of what you speak of I still find these videos very entertaining and they really get me thinking about some of the things you say. Thank you for the video Pastor :)
Interesting story that I NEVER would have guessed, being that the late great Ronnie James Dio was such a "esoteric" lyric writer for Sabbath and his own band . . . Dio - Holy Diver in his own words: ua-cam.com/video/U8Ln5GW-3as/v-deo.html
Many Metallica songs explore biblical themes. A lot of biblical stories are violent and dark. It just fits that metal/rock bands would express those stories perfectly. God sending the angel of death to kill the first born son of every house. That’s dark…… and just one of many similar stories in the Bible.
Honestly metal is about the instruments and the music. The lyrics are secondary. James just found the story of the angel of death haunting the night really cool.
Songs worth reacting to: Metallica - Lepper Messiah Trivium - Pull Harder on the Strings of Your Martyr Slayer - Silent Scream Slayer - New Faith Mercyful Fate - Curse of the Pharaohs Ozzy Osbourne - I don't Wanna Stop Volbeat - Fallen Within Temptation - Angels ACDC - Let There Be Rock Iron Maiden - The Evil That Men Do Iron Maiden - For the Greater Good of God
BatcaveComics83 Light a Way is probably a better song with religious tones than Fallen for Volbeat. But I think they are both about Michael’s father/parents.
Fun fact : this song was based on the 1956 movie the 10 commandments and the words “ so let it be written “ and “ so let it be done “ are usually used after the high ranking Egyptians or the Pharaoh gives orders
Great video and great talk. I was raised Christian by my parents and am now an atheist. My brother introduced me to Metallica so many years ago and at the time I didn't know english to really understand the lyrics, but I do remember that their music was generally frowned upon by religious folk. Something I really liked about this video is his last comment on how the song has no negatives and it's just telling a story. It seems to me quite reasonable and sensible thing to say, as opposed to the sermons of subliminal messages and the like I received when I was a child. Thank you.
Its written from the view of the angel that did the killing is kinda the point. Like the idea of the darkness god would put this Angel through and force him to do such heinous acts, not only in his name but in disregard of the angles humanity if angles do infact have humanity
Yes it is true that this song was inspired by the guys watching "The 10 Commandments", but Hetfield also grew up in a very strict Christian Science house hold so prior to this Im sure he was educated to some degree as a child to this part of the Bible. Kirk also grew up as a Catholic so too had to be familiar with Exodus in some part, so this song is not completely derived from a faithless inspiration from a movie alone.
This pastor seems really open minded and cool..I hope God blesses him and he has very long and happy life and i hope he continues to inspire people to follow the word of God
Finally someone recognizes the story being told here!!!! I love this song, an absolute masterpiece. Please react to metallica-fight fire with fire or black Sabbath-black Sabbath
What I was getting at, is if Het was raised in an actual Christian home, he would possibly have turned out differently. Real Christianity isn't about "religion" and following law. A lot of people on the outside looking in get that confused
Metalhead Coaster Fan My keyboard is not to good, idk what else to say to you. I'm always backspacing back and forth while I'm texting. I'm not going to be perfect most of the time.
there's an old metallica interview online somewhere. during the interview metallic were asked about writing creeping death. they replied the idea for the song and lyrics, came after watching the original ten commandments movie; which was yes, based on the exodus/Moses story of the bible.
So..... I guess youve never seen cecil b demilles the ten commandments cause thats where the inspiration came from the main lyric "so let it be written so let it be done" is the lines yull bryner says in the movie
"So let it be written, so let it be done" is from Cecil B. Dimills The Ten Commadments with Charlton Heston and Yule Brenner who plays Pharoh, this what Pharoh says.
React to metallica's "The God that failed" "The four horsemen" and "Leper messiah" which are other songs of theirs with biblical themes. CHRIST IS LORD!
I know. Thats why I think they should hear it. They seem to be the type of christians that would agree with the song. As a christian myself I even agree with it. There are false teachers in the church that use the name of Christ for financial gain and mislead others using the name of Christ in order to extort money from them. True believers in christ recognize that this kind of thing happens in the church.
ed mora Most of Jesus' doubters and persecutors were the Hebrew religiois leaders , they hated him for teaching the people they no longer need the Sinigog or peiests to speal to God. I get irritated by Christians that use the passion of Christ as an excuse to hate the Jewish people. The sinigog condoned Jesus' crucifixion not the people, today's church would behave in the same way if Jesus came and took their power. sorry I'm typing on my phone
MrStacy1974 actually, the Jewish leaders main hatred for Jesus stemmed from the fact Jesus claimed to be God in human flesh... and it wasn't just the Jewish leaders who condoned the death of Christ, it was also the people of Israel as a whole. When they clamored for his crucifixion and said may his blood be upon us and upon our children.
paulsan2112 ... anyone who is an unbeliever is of the synagogue of Satan. Not just Jews. There were Jews in the Bible who were Believers in Christ and therefore they were not of the synagogue of Satan. It is unbelief that puts you in the category of belonging to the synagogue of Satan.
Best band. Seen them 4 times. If you get a chance to see them , go. You'll never forget the experience of the entire stadium shaking. Also, I was waiting for the involuntary head bopping ? Maybe next time. Nice review.
Been getting JACKED on this song since i first heard it. After getting saved and studying the bible i get JACKED 10 fold. God bless Metallica. Gods wrath is coming again soon to non beleivers, as is salvation. This is undoubtedly about the Planet of the Crossing and a near miss like the one we are about to have. Draw close to Jesus, its going to be a wild ride. God Bless and Thank you Jesus
Did this guy just say Metallica was just ok? that is metal blasphemy.
The killing joke how about “legendary”
I think he means Metallica as a whole, their first few albums were fantastic or even legendary, but for a while, most people have just kind of viewed them as good but not great, their newer material just doesn't stack up to this stuff.
He also did say this is one of their good albums. Let’s face it Metallica has like 50% bad-meh albums.
Metallica started to get bad by their own standards, but even when MEtallica got bad they were still great.
Theres a youtube video with the sound engineer that mixed "And Justice" Where he explains that the band wanted it mixed this way.He said He even did another mix the way he thought it should be with more bass, & they flat out rejected it in favor of what we have today from the original release. Then he meets them many years later & Lars asks him why the mix sounds so terrible!

Well I mean the songs are from like 30 some years ago so
The bit that you're forgetting about this song is that it is actually told from the perspective of the Angel of Death.

Dropping all these good songs while I’m at work-I see how it is. Now I have good videos to watch on my days off. Keep up the great work.
Terry Cairl thanks, we are having fun with this and glad you are too!
Big Cat asked if he likes Metallica - "They're ok"
As soon as Creeping Death starts "This is one their better ones."
😂😂😂 You're darn tootin it is!!!
As person who has never read the bible nor really believes in most of what you speak of I still find these videos very entertaining and they really get me thinking about some of the things you say. Thank you for the video Pastor :)
Dio- Holy Diver
Interesting story that I NEVER would have guessed, being that the late great Ronnie James Dio was such a "esoteric" lyric writer for Sabbath and his own band . . .
Dio - Holy Diver in his own words: ua-cam.com/video/U8Ln5GW-3as/v-deo.html
Last in line much better!
Goolash Jonah and the whale?
Great googily moogily you did my #1 favorite songs by my favorite band of all time
React to Fade to Black or One
I have one on this list. I’ll add fade to black.
Oh my frig --- Fade To Black
"One" is a very Spiritual song, the man is crying out to God in his earthly hell
One? Seriously? It’s based on the concepts found in the novel “Johnny Got His Gun”. So says Lars.
jai pate and fade to black a song about a man wanting to commit suicide lol
Not even one single fucking headbang ! WOW !!
King 810 - Alpha and Omega, big religious song.
Many Metallica songs explore biblical themes. A lot of biblical stories are violent and dark. It just fits that metal/rock bands would express those stories perfectly. God sending the angel of death to kill the first born son of every house. That’s dark…… and just one of many similar stories in the Bible.
Ok let's see pastor Andy's opinion on Slayer!!
Todd Durst especially since Tom Araya is Catholic
Honestly metal is about the instruments and the music. The lyrics are secondary. James just found the story of the angel of death haunting the night really cool.
Theocracy - I Am
Thank you for actually listen to the lyrics and not making assumptions. While I despise most christians, you might be ok to hang out with.
If you're a man of "God" you will love "God hates us all" by Slayer!
I'd love to see the reaction to that one!!!!! Not sure he would though lol
you should listen to it
Lol 🤣
I can't believe that album came out on 9/11
When i heard this song i knew what it was from right away because my mom always made us watch christian movies and i enjoy them
I would love to see you reacting to "At the left hand ov god" by Behemoth
As an atheist watching this i respect that he actually listened to the song. Unlike many others who simply condemn with no thought.
How about the god that failed?
Songs worth reacting to:
Metallica - Lepper Messiah
Trivium - Pull Harder on the Strings of Your Martyr
Slayer - Silent Scream
Slayer - New Faith
Mercyful Fate - Curse of the Pharaohs
Ozzy Osbourne - I don't Wanna Stop
Volbeat - Fallen
Within Temptation - Angels
ACDC - Let There Be Rock
Iron Maiden - The Evil That Men Do
Iron Maiden - For the Greater Good of God
BatcaveComics83 Light a Way is probably a better song with religious tones than Fallen for Volbeat. But I think they are both about Michael’s father/parents.
Attack_Dog513 I think you are right.
So It’s ok to play this in church right!?
Fun fact : this song was based on the 1956 movie the 10 commandments and the words “ so let it be written “ and “ so let it be done “ are usually used after the high ranking Egyptians or the Pharaoh gives orders
You guys should listen to Ghost "Bible" I'm really interested what you guys would think of it
bhauger1 I know what it's about I just wanna hear a pastor's thoughts on it
Great video and great talk.
Thank you.
Awesome to have you on board Isaac! Did you check out the other Metallica!
Its written from the view of the angel that did the killing is kinda the point. Like the idea of the darkness god would put this Angel through and force him to do such heinous acts, not only in his name but in disregard of the angles humanity if angles do infact have humanity
Dude says that Metallica’s “Ok” but smiles through the song
Thier O.K.? Only the most influential metal band in the last 35 years.
Metallica-Frayed Ends of Sanity and Metallica-Welcome Home Sanitarium
'so let it be written, so let it be done' is from Cecil B. DeMille, not the bible.
Still not as good as "So sayeth the shepherd, so sayeth the flock!"
Creeping death, the four horsemen, fuel, spit out the bone are my most listened to Metallica songs.
Its less a biblical song of reference and more of a reference to the movie The Ten Commandments
...and the Ten Commandments isn't Biblical?
We've got a fucking genius here.....And where did the Ten Commandments come from??
Yes it is true that this song was inspired by the guys watching "The 10 Commandments", but Hetfield also grew up in a very strict Christian Science house hold so prior to this Im sure he was educated to some degree as a child to this part of the Bible. Kirk also grew up as a Catholic so too had to be familiar with Exodus in some part, so this song is not completely derived from a faithless inspiration from a movie alone.
Metallica...Just Ok. smh
Broke the First commandment of Metal.
Thou shalt headbang!
\m/ 💀 \m/
This pastor seems really open minded and cool..I hope God blesses him and he has very long and happy life and i hope he continues to inspire people to follow the word of God
You could have saved a whole lot of talking if you just said, Listen to the song, then go watch The Ten Commandments.
Finally someone recognizes the story being told here!!!! I love this song, an absolute masterpiece. Please react to metallica-fight fire with fire or black Sabbath-black Sabbath
im surprised 20 someting year old drunk musicians were able to write such lyrics
During the first tour Cliff Burton and Kirk Hammet were watching The Ten Commandments on tv and Cliff said this would make a great song.
You should react to Avenged sevenfold "Brompton cocktail"
Kit rapsang That’s what the Rev took after writing Fiction!
Lori Santon i know the story i just wanna see him reacting to sucidal case😊
I love A7X & miss Jimmy tremendously!!!
Lori Santon A7X foREVer
the lyrics speak for themselves pastor. Great song
your audio is weird on this channel man. when the pastor stops talking, it sounds like your mic is off, then boom! there it is again. lol.
The use of the Phrygian scale helps give it that ancient levanent feel
James Hetfield was raised in an overly religious household
"Overly religious"? Yeah, ok, close. Christian Science, however, is not to be confused with Christianity. CS is really a cult
if its christian science then its even more to be feared. its about as stupid as anything can be
@@trentonberry105
What I was getting at, is if Het was raised in an actual Christian home, he would possibly have turned out differently. Real Christianity isn't about "religion" and following law. A lot of people on the outside looking in get that confused
if it was christian science, christianity all the same cancer@@trentonberry105
You just proved my point.
I love when bands preach the gospel
Do Spiritual healing by Death
Metallica is not and never was evil.
Please reac to Metallica: The Four Horsemen
Dissonant Fates *react
Metalhead Coaster Fan My keyboard is not to good, idk what else to say to you. I'm always backspacing back and forth while I'm texting. I'm not going to be perfect most of the time.

Leper Messiah. One of the greatest thrash grooves.
Please do some Behemoth. Ora pro nobis lucifer, or o father o satan o sun whould be good choises
franco zapata 😂
O Father, O Satan, O Sun please!!
there's an old metallica interview online somewhere. during the interview metallic were asked about writing creeping death. they replied the idea for the song and lyrics, came after watching the original ten commandments movie; which was yes, based on the exodus/Moses story of the bible.
all fantasy books make for good metal music
They got the inspiration for the song after watching the film The Ten Commandments. Cliff Burton made the comment “Whoa... it’s like Creeping Death!”
Can you guys do dream theater please!?
TheKB24BM yessss
So..... I guess youve never seen cecil b demilles the ten commandments cause thats where the inspiration came from the main lyric "so let it be written so let it be done" is the lines yull bryner says in the movie
Do Disciple by SLAYER !!!!!
CHRIST IS LORD!
ed mora Lepper Messiah wouldn't go over too well. It condemns the modern church practices that are almost Antichrist.
Nice review.
could you react to Stryper?
stealthRUSH by other than profuse vomiting?
Thomas McBride yeah I don't like Stryper either, too "glam" for me. Deliverance and Tourniquet is where it's at.
