No Human in the history of Earth has made such a concise and practical video about 4 different motorcycle tires. I am really thinking that Ryan with FortNine is an alien. I can barely process all the information he conveyed. I spent 2 days reading about tires, but learned more from this 8 minute video. Thanks Ryan!

Just got some Michelin Road 5 for my FJR. What a difference. Handles so smooth, less vibration, hugs road so quietly. Very happy with.
I have about 6k miles on my Angel GTs and they are holding up amazingly well. Mainly motorway mileage and used in winter without any feelings of doom.
I just finished scrubbing my new Metzeler Roadtec 01, and I have to say, they are amazing. Super sticky and quick turn in. I researched tires for a couple of months, and according to independent tests, they are actually better in the wet than the PR4; I live in Vancouver, so I should be able to verify that pretty quickly!
I've had PR4 before on a VFR800 (I now ride an FJ-09), and they were OK. Long life, but weird wear pattern...
Peter Lag so what's your verdict, now that you've had these tires for five months?
I would be surprised if it has quick turn in, with the flattest profile of the test group..
I'm corner rider and ride my Buell XB12R on the Metzeler Roadtec 01 and it's the best tire which I ever had. Super sticky on wet surface in the every corner and every angle. It's the extra safe tire and you can focus on the fun of ride your bike.
Been shopping for tires for a few weeks. Seemed that the more reviews I viewed, the more confusing it became. Your videos make it MUCH easier to decipher. I come away with a good understanding and better prepared to make my decision. Many thanks. Subscribed
Great reviews. Bridgestone T30's came stock on my 2015 Versys 1000. They have been the best cornering tires I have ever owned. The front (17 inch wheel) is wearing at the same rate as the rear. On pace to get about 6K miles on the set. I'll be buying them again. You know your tires.
Okay, so I'll now make my comments on this video. I had ordered a set of the Pirelli Angel GT A-Spec for my 2014 Kawasaki Concours 14. I've been running those tires for a few years now, and they are great. After watching this video I also ordered a set of the Metzeler Roadtec-01's. I actually got them for $3.00 (USD) cheaper than the Michelin Pilot 4's. I then proceeded to do a road trip from Atlanta, GA to Hyder, AK, and back. I was on the road for 29 days, and covered 8,756 miles. The Metzelers worked great! It pissed rain on us going up into Canada, and on the last two days riding home.
The tires performed without issue. They did, as is mentioned in this video, get a flat spot down the middle. I mostly attribute that to the large amount of highway miles under heavy load.
While in the Black Hills National Forest they gripped the road like silly putty on hot asphalt. They held their line, and made that big beast of a bike feel like it was locked into a track on the road.
I just returned home on Monday, and I have taken my bike to the shop to have them put on the Pirelli's since I had already ordered them, and had them standing by upon my return. When it comes time to order tires again I'll probably go with the Metzeler's. No dis on the Pirelli's. I just really liked the handling of the Metzeler. Plus, after almost 9K miles they still had plenty of tread depth left. I just need to do more curves, and less long highway miles.

P.S. This was my first time north of the border. Canada is a beautiful country. Alberta and B.C. were amazing. I look forward to going back.
Hey, Ryan! I took your suggestion and bought the Metzeler Roadtec 01! What a great tire! The best word to describe the ride is "plush"! It is so smooth! The only drawback I have seen so far is that i have lost 3-4 mpg compared to my worn PR4. I'm not sure why but the ride quality easily makes up for this one negative.

Huge fan of the Metzeler Roadtech 01's. So far great in wet and cold with lots of grip. Feels slightly better than Michelin Road Pilot 3's I had previously installed in turns.
Have the T-30 EVO and are really good, Haven't put a lot of miles but will see how it goes, so far for a novice track day, they work great!
Quality content without long useless intros.. I skip first 2 to 3 min of video in 90% of youtubers and so far haven't missed a thing as they prolong due to lack of content.. F9 on the other hand is Bang On!! Quality Stuff.
Most of the videos that you and your team put out are top notch. The bike reviews are a bit too artsy and short on information, but they trade that for being entertaining. The gear guides, and various other videos you guys make though are spectacular. Keep up the good work!

BMW K1600 GT
Rider 110kg with full gear and camelbak water back pack and ride without pillion.
On my 3rd set of 01's from Metzeler. Last set changed today.
7033km done with the back tire down to the 'sea' section and about 1mm on the flancs. The front tire is about 0.5mm to the wear indicator in the middle and to the flancs. I always change the set to keep the best handling on the bike. 4789km of the 7033km was done this past summer with top box and side paniers fully loaded.
Used two sets of PR4GT but couldn't get past 6500km on the rears and they would slide unexpectedly in the dry when you really got the hammer down in the corners.
First set of Metzler Z8's lasted 8500km. Since then I just cannot touch that mileage with either 01's or PR4GT. I found the Z8's did not inspire confidence in the rain as it does not have sufficient water evacuation designed tread. Then in the dry, on another trips in the Alpes, once the tire got hot with all that curved road and hairpins, it slid around, sometimes it surprised me, it was not a progressive slide.
The K16 is a sport GT and you can pretty much use it like a sport bike so it destroys tires. I still need to try the Pirelli Angel GT's which give better mileage but not all weather, all riding style better performance. Hence it seems I'm stuck with the 01's. I just think for a touring bike secttion of the market, whatever the manufacturer, they should give us a tire worth 10000km whatever the bike (Goldwing, K16, Harley/Indian heavy custom).
How can you go 'on tour' with a tire that can be legally done by 600O to 7000km? At the price they're sold, we should be getting more bang for buck but we're not.

I have the Angel GTs on my Daytona. I've been amazed by how evenly it's wearing down and now I know why thank you +FortNine. Anyway, they handled fairly well when it rained lightly enough to ride this past winter/spring
Hello Ryan, I have been enjoying your channel for about a month now. Appreciate all the work you put into bringing us great content. I had to take a break from riding for quite a few years, but picked up a 2005 FJR1300 a month ago. Now I am needing to put some new bands on it and trying to figure out what I need for a heavy bike and my heavy weight
I've ridden on a half dozen different tyres, and the T30 Evo was easily the best - better even than the Pilot Road 5 (at least in the dry), and I thought it performed really well in the wet. I'm looking forward to trying the Roadtech R01, or the T31 next.

Got my Roadtec 01s after watching a couple of reviews, including this one. Mounted them on my GSX-R 750. The tyre is simply amazing! Great grip under all conditions, including 4°C, humid weather. It gives a lot of confidence under all circumstances, and "signs" when its coming to the grip limit, which allows to correct on time. Its an amazing combination between sport and daily commuter tyre. Let´s see how long they last :-)

You made an interesting comment about guys that get 2 rear tires out of 1 front. I am and have been just the opposite. I average 2 fronts for every 1 rear. Makes it kind of hard to buy in pairs. This has also lead me to stick with the OEM Battlax on my FJR. It looks like the best for me on my next changeout will be the new Battlax, but the Angel GT intrigues me. Most of my riding is commuting but when I do get to hit the mountains, I like to go for it.
I’m gonna put the GT Angel 2 on my 2018 R1. They grip just as good as the SP VP 2. Also they get more miles and I can knee drag the bike. Thanks for this review. There is no need for a super sticky tire for city riding.

Got some Metzeler Roadtec 01's here too, got few kilometers with those tires before winter and damn these are good tires. Got em on bowth of my bikes ZX-9R -99 and ZZR1400 -07 with turbo kit and its perfect for bowth bikes.

AHA :) Because the roads in the UK at least in the Robin Hood County(NOTTINGHAMSHIRE/MEN IN TIGHTS LOL) have leaves and f*CKING great Branches In The middle of the road, I drove my, forgive me I am 50ys old and I cannot ride my trusty steed a HONDA VTR1000F FIRESTORM through the 4 seasons, so I BOAST, NAY Confess I drove Ford Focus RS MK1 to work this week at 5:15am and ran over a small bush and later on I encountered a 6ft square sheet of plywood on a roundabout, this begs my question WHAT THE HELL ARE WE PAYING ROAD TAX FOR People! As a Police Traffic Cop Car drove over it before me and at the end of work at 14:00 The Plywood was smashed/pulped to bits over two lanes of the carriageway?.
I think it is about time we as bikers video and report road obstacles in a real-time fashion and have an APP/Android or i phone I f*CKING DOWN`T CARE just like Google maps shows red for queuing/congestion, WE SHOULD HAVE A HAZZARD/PERCEPTION/OBSTACLE THAT COULD CAUSE US HARM Alert!!!!!!!!!
PS Anybody who agrees with me on this please feel free to comment, we need a Motorcycling safe APP of our own and if anybody has any idea how to get this going please don't hesitate to contact me, I Would have genuinely thought ROSPA or some other biking organisation would have Cracked this Subject by now FFS and if not I Will after being away from motorcycling for over 20 yrs due to family matters and financial constraints I would like to create such an APP as I think we as Bikers can save and help fellow commuter bikers lives:/

I went with the metzeler roadtec-01 and i am very pleased.
Not so much with the price of it, but certainly with the tyre.
I got a set of the Battlax Evos for my MT-01 a couple of weeks ago. Thanks for the advice. The bike feels much more confidence-inspiring than it did on the stock tyres.

Love the Angel GT, have the A Spec on the rear of my Concours. So far 10,000 miles and I think they will go a few thousand more. Center tread in good shape and still handling well. most miles were two up and loaded down as well. Going to replace with the same unless the new Dunlop tire proves better mileage etc.

Michelin Commander II's are on my ride right now and I've been very happy with them. Great in cold, wet conditions. They give great confidence in tough conditions. My one complaint is they are noisy. It is less noticeable now than it was when they were new, but laying it over in a turn you hear it. The tread is very thick and I still have perhaps half of my tread life left after 10K miles.
My BMW S1000XR came with Metzeler Roadtec 01 mounted at the factory.
Two weeks ago I had to replace them with new ones and I had my dealership mount the Metzeler Roadtec 01 SE.
SE stands for Sport Edition.
After a couple of hundreds of km so far, I definitely prefer the Roadtec 01 SE, especially for cornering.
They also feel much more comfortable to ride on than the simple Roadtec 01.
I didn’t ride in the rain with them yet, but I already had extremely good results with the Roadtec 01 in the rain and expect the Roadtec 01 SE to be identical.
I have been running PR4GT for couple years on my ST1300. Typically turn 20- 25,000 miles a year. I love them. Only complaint is feathering of front. Thought it was a suspension issue so rebuilt forks. While I don't regret redoing suspension it didn't take care of feathering of front. I just recently installed new tires and decided to go with Dunlop new Sportmax Roadsmart III. Dry traction is as good as PR4. Wet traction is ok. The tire seems softer in the corner, best way I can describe it is it feels like it rolls under. At first it was a bit sketchy but have learned to enjoy it. It'll hold the road just took a bit to trust that. Dunlop claims the tire will outlast a PR4. Time will tell, currently have only 2,000 miles on them. The cost was less than PR4 and with a $60 rebate to boot. A month after I purchased them Dunlop increased the rebate to $110 (June 15th - July 4th) if you have "Any service done from a Dunlop Pro Dealer". I'm initially pleased with Dunlops new tire, we'll see in a couple months when I'm pushing 10,000 miles.
I have been using the roadtec 01 now for 3 + years on a triumph explorer. Yes they are as good as you suggest. As long as you check and correct your pressure constantly it will greatly reduce squaring off. I run with 42 rear and 35/6 on front.
10k kms on my angel gt so far, fitted on a bmw r1100rt. loving every degree of angle on it. indeed very grippy towards full lean, even under cold conditions. and it doesn't even look like it's halfway worn. coming from a rider that slayed supercorsa's on an rsv4 in 3500km per set.
Love the Angel GT´s on my Ninja650, never thought of them as sport tires though :D
They are quite long lasting, rear tire usually holds up to 12.000 km, front 20.000km, I can live with that :)

I got my z8 fitted on my zx-6r from your last years review. Lasted me 20000km. Could have gone 25000km if not for my faulty suspension. It was faultless and i do push them. A Great tyre that lacked feedback. This year, i got the roadtec 01 from your review and im happy i listened. It was a no brainer as its the cheapest newer st tyre in my country. Prefer dropping e pressures to 230f/260r for more cushion and feedback for the streets. More grip than i could ever use for the street. The apex lining, grip and profile is a big win.
I'm driving rhe Roadtec01 for half a year now. Damn, it converted my 25 year old naked bike into a modern Sportstourer. Great handling, a lot lot lot of trust on rainy roads and sporty feel on the dry. After about 5 000 km it still looks new except for the slightly roughened surface of course. So, money well spend.
PS: 250 kg (bike) + 105 kg (me), 80 PS, moderate riding style on the twisties, lunatic idiot on the straight.
i have used angel gt and pr4...both gave good mileage esp. the michelin but i think it suits more for the touring rider...if u like to lean ,it is safer to do on the metzeler,esp in the dry...and in the wet go for metzeler too !

I recently got a set of Angel GTs for my CFMoto 650TK. I upgraded from some cheap entry level tyres and I'm quite enjoying them so far (2000km). We had a few 45C days in January, and man, do they grip when its hot. I would highly recommend. My last set of tyres made about 15,000km, so I'll be interested to see how these do.
Replaced my Metz M7RR W with Roadtec 01 on my S1000RR ahead of a 5k tour from Tokyo to Hokkaido. Good overall road feel especially as it rained hard almost everyday. When it did mostly dry up still recorded a confident 45° lean angle.
Good tire that I will likely go back to in the fall but through the spring and summer going back to M7RR or possible Racetec.
Rode year round with the PR4 on my CTX commuting for work and got almost 16k miles on the rear before replacement and almost 20k on the front. Rode just fine in wet weather at highway speeds of 70mph+.
Time for a 2020 rundown ... some interesting new tires out there ....

Thanks a lot for this review. Very interesting and helped me to choose and I'm very happy with the choice. I purchased Roadtec 01 (manufactured one or two years earlier, so I could keep the cost down and after 2 or 3 seasons they will be replaced anyway). I can't make a reliable comparison, but these rubbers give a lot of grip and confidence in various road conditions. After over 5000km they are still pretty round and thread depth went from 6,5 to 5mm on the rear and from 5 to 3,5mm on the front. Most of the distance was done with a pyllion and luggage, so loaded but not agressive riding. And yeah, they look pretty cool.

Probably going for T30evo this month, have used Bridgestone tyres for ten years, city/commuting/touring use, good all-rounders I think
If you live in Montreal you need spike ice tyres & a heated helmet during the winter, love your channel very professional.
I've got the PR4GT's and absolutely love them. I still feel the grip in corners and can go much farther than I want to. 10/10 would recommend.

my previous rear tire on my monster 796 was pirelli angel gt and i did around 15000km on it. plus i replaced the tire recently not because it has run out of tread, but only because i think it too old and wanted a stickier m7rr. absolutely superb sport touring tire.
for long terms review how does m7rr performed? have you tried rosso 3? which is better for commuting (but quite aggressive riding)? I live in Malaysia and here its always raining.
PR4s are by far my favourite for street riding. You can always get on your bike and know you have the tires for the job no matter the weather. I run them on my KTM Duke 690 exclusively. There are many tires with more dry grip but you can still confidently lean to the edge with ease. I find it is more under throttle at corner exit that the grip tends to show it's weakness, even straight line acceleration is a little weak, although both make for lots of fun sliding around lol. The thing is, these breaking points are beyond what is good street riding practice. While still being well within the boundaries of the tyre grip I am well past the legal limits and into the bike being impounded and licence being revoked side of things, so street wise, these tires will perform more than adequately on the appropriate bike.
Try the Roadtec 01s. I ride a 690 SMC R and I have already gone through PR4s, M7RRs and I'm currently riding on Roadtec 01s. The Metzelers are far superior tires in every department (maybe except mileage, but not by much). The M7RRs are even better than the Roadtec 01s in dry and warm and wet conditions, but I'm currently living in a colder place with lots of rain, so the Roadtec 01s are here to stay.
I haven't tried them but have heard good things. I am not ashamed to admit it but I'm a major Michelin whore lol. I have a hard time buying anything other than Michelin (and haven't for many years). I might give them a shot, still haven't ordered up new ones for this year yet but my front only has one season and I only need to replace the rear.
The 01s got me curious... Outperforming Michelin ? Blasphemy lol. I'm a truck driver and a Michelin whore in that aspect of my life so it's hard for me as well but they do look good too and it's actually great to have some serious competition in the most mainstream moto tire segment.
Ricardo Lourizela I agree 100%! I had PR4s on my Street Triple R and 3 months ago I changed to M7RRs... the difference was absurd! I live in a warm weather, though - it rains, but it's never cold. I hear the Roadtec 01s are very similar to the M7RRs.

It's actually terrifying how fast you can ride in the rain on the Michelin Pilot Road tires.

The best tire for street use in wet is Bridgestone S21 or S22 - marvelous tires . Excelent grip everywhere
For my everyday running I loved my Angel GT. Two up touring, not so much. The "timid" part was a problem with my fully loaded bike.
Just replaced my Dunlop Roadsmart 2 with the Metzeler Roadtec 01.
Love them so far. But, I've noticed just a few hours ago that they are made in china, which was a bit surprise to me..

I wish my stock chain could be removed so that I can clean it easier. I don't enjoy all the goop I have to spray accidentally onto the tire, then clean off. What's a good replacement for that?
I think that's there's too many different sprockets and chains to do reviews of them. Especially for different bikes, different sizes, etc. And to really test them you'd need a million models and you're probably not going to tell any difference until you put at least 10k miles or so on each different chain or sprocket. Just go with the whatever you like and your probably not going to be hugely disappointed.
Ive Michelin tyres for most of 13 years on zx14 and zx14r Kawasaki bikes and the michelin5 is first class. 200 hp all on open road on crap West Aussie roads. First class Excellent tyres!!!
As soon as I wore out the Scorpion Trails on my VFR800X I put some Angel GT's on it and fucking hell, absolutely transformed the bike, so much easier to ride through the twisties on the absolute edge. Decent range too since I commute on them
Solid review! I'm sticking with my tried & true Pilot Road 4 (GT) on my big BMW. Would certainly consider one or two of the alternatives mentioned here, if I knew I was becoming a more "fair weather" rider, but alas, I'm not, so sticking for PR4s.

just took a t30 off with 21,000 miles and rain never bothered me 55-60mph. and rain was never a problem.
Avon Storm XM for me, long lasting, grip well in the rain and go right to the edge in the dry. I've had a few different michelin rd tyres and they all let you down big time in the dry especially in 'chicane' type manouvres where I found them lethal as the front breaks away, I've had this happen on PR 1, 2 and 3's so decided to not bother with michelins any longer. I've never liked bridgestone at all but do like the metzlers as another good all-rounder, I find tyres are rider specific, I like mine to start giving up a little prior to breaking away but some don't like that, riding by the seat of your arse rather than your hands will keep you rubber side down, if you cant feel them going then you get too confident and tend to ride accordingly.
Cracking video. Been looking at replacements for the Annakee 3 tyres on my GS. Was tempted by the Metzlers and you've just convinced me. Ordering a set now.

I've just had the t31's fitted And even whilst scrubbing them in on my way home (which always includes a detour) they felt good.

I've done about 35k miles on my street triple, it burned through three sports tyres on the rear by 9000 miles, rooso corsa, pilot power & something else. I've had pr3/4s on ever since & they all lasted more than 5000 miles each, probably the cheapest per mile tyre available.
Roadtec 01, looks great, but that's as far as I'd go. Fitted a pair based on road tests claims of huge mileage. Except the tyre wore faster than the cheap Continental's they replaced, and I mean faster I did 2815 mile blast around the UK, almost all on A road, and it was going sideways after 2000 miles, that bad
I replaced them again with a pair of Contimotions, saving about £100 and gaining a couple of thousand miles at the same time
I've had a good experience with the roadtec 01's. Very good and confidence inspiring on my SD1290. They have started to square off after 4500miles on the rear but this is due to the torque being put through the rear rather than the tire. Looking to try something different now as the tires aren't as good when dropping into corners.
Any chance you would add the Michelin R5's and Continental Road Attack 3's to the list? It seems like the Michelin R5's and Metzeler Roadtec 01's are great all weather choices and if you are willing to give up a little bit when it's wet then you would gain a little on the dry by going with the Angel GT II's...
I run the BT-023 still and I feel very confident on them might have to try out the T30 Next time

Those are the worst tires ever, they were the stock tires on my bike, never again ! However, the Pirelli's Angel GT are just fantastic.
@@glovercarvalho1930 I have an MT07, got it new with BT023, back tire has 10k kms almost finished, 023 aren't amazing but at least they last pretty long.
Can you tell me how good the mileage is on the pirelli? I'm kinda undecided between that and the mainstream choice nowadays, the Michelin PR5
You nailed when you say the Bridgestones have to be trusted and don't provide that feel. I arrived to similar conclusions for me they seem "hard" yet they grip well but can tell how much no feedback from them. Are Metzelers mt01 flatter than M7RR? Thanks for opinions

Great review! Price and longevity matter most to a commuter like me, I'll stick with the Michelin.
It rained the day I had them mounted. Unscrubbed and fresh off the tyre rack, they felt firmly planted and were immediately confidence-inspiring even in the heavy monsoon downpour. A brilliant bang for my hard-earned buck.
My previous set of Pirelli Angel STs started to shred down the middle (yeah, WTF) after just 15000km. My PR4s still look new after 5000km so far and appear all set to beat my old Pirellis for mileage.
Ryan your giving me far to many choice's here.... I've had the best luck with bridgestone battlax's (oem rear tire went 25k km oem front went 20k km),that roadtec 01 is very very tempting!

I'm about to have Roadtec 01's fitted to my Multistrada 1200 now that it never sees dirt. The bike will really just be for weekend canyon carving/light touring but I don't push crazy hard on the street so it feels like the right choice for me unless someone has a better tyre suggestion.

Yup. Pirelli Angel GT's are the bomb diggity; I dare you to try and break them loose (I have the A-specs on a K1600)

Talking about a T30 evo, while holding a T30... interesting... also, the t30 evo is replacement for the T30, which in turn was the replacement of the bt023 of course. However, I do agree with your assessment of the tyre.
I ran through 2 sets of T30's before the evo came out, but because of limited mileage (15k and14k kms vs 20k kms for bt023) after those i switched to Metzeler Z8's, and... got the same mileage, but better grip in the dry, rain, and enough grip with less than 1 mm tread left midwinter, not bad...(also i might have driven faster this year :D) So onto my second set. Unfortunately because i have a 110/70 front tyre, my choices are limited... no Roadtec 01's, Angel GT's (or pr4's) for me, but the Z8 is a great tyre.
