she did not overreact. if anything, she completely under reacted. if someone attempted to murder me (yes, knowingly feeding someone something they are deathly allergic to is attempted murder), i would defend myself until the threat is neutralized.
so for reference, some nut allergies can be severe enough to where there's a strong reaction from ingesting even a little shard of nut. when being forced to consume such a large quantity of nuts OP could've had a severe enough reaction that even an EpiPen wouldn't have helped and she could've literally died
What 😂 you are aware that a mother-in-law is just the mother of a spouse right? And almost everyone, hopefully, has a mom? Basically you’re just saying all mothers are monsters
Um. No. I'm an awesome mother in law 😂 Nobody is mad at me. We get together regularly for dinner and game night. Alllllll of the other parents in law demand sole attention at EVERY holiday, so instead of being a b!tch about it, we understand and schedule sometimes a week or several weeks in advance or after said holiday/birthday. My daughter has 3 kids from a previous marriage and married her second husband who also has 3 kids. Those 3 kids from her 2nd husband ARE my grandkids, I'll fight anyone who says they aren't 😂
Fine. Tell them they can have it their way. You'll play their little game. You'll apologize for (correctly) guessing she caused that fight because you won't give her grandkids. _Right after you go to the police to press charges for _*_assault and/or attempted murder_* But on the bright side of things, all that money you save not having kids can go towards sending her to jail! It's a win-win! For you anyways... 😅
at first, I tought Frank was an only child. so, it kinda makes sense why his mother was trying to convince them to have a child. but turns out, Frank has an older brother. she still can become a grandma if her other son has a kid. why does she keep bothering OP
Some people are able to consume small amounts of peanut safely (like a few mg), usually the more processed a product it is the less likely it is to inflame an allergy. We don't know the severity of her allergies or the ingredients. Many recipes of chocolate pb cake requires about 30 grams of pb and a batch is usually 700 grams (like 5% pb). It's reasonable to believe that a person with a moderate allergy can handle contact with and allergen but not consumption There's some fascinating literature about allergies
As with all kinds of allergies they vary from person to person. I've heard of people who literally can't even smell peanut butter or they have trouble breathing. Then others are okay as long as they don't eat it. Also, people as they age can have less of a reaction, or on the flip side it can get worse. Everyone is different.
@@ahhh4117 I'm not allergic to peanuts but I'm allergic to nickel and peanut has a huge amount of it (also, tomato and strawberries). Anyway, I can eat some peanuts, like a Snickers bar but if I eat too many natural peanuts my face gets a rash. My dad is allergic to shrimps and he used to eat or eat contaminated food and got a small rash until one time he had an anaphylactic reaction. This shrimp journey took him like 50 years to turn into a severe reaction but doctors warned him that it would eventually happen.
People witness very life threatening allergies pretty rarely. It mostly just some loose motion, skin bruising, patches, blushing, runny nose, itching and all small stuff they assume. And people with allergies don’t usually say if it’s deadly out-loud, because it’s a threat to themselves. So many people are unaware I assume. And there are people who have the allergy themselves and they are not aware of the nature themselves. Some allergies are very mild that you don’t even acknowledge it. Some are moderate and you take some allergy meds and you are fine with exposing yourself. Some are so severe just as soon as you are exposed you might have respiratory failure, cardiac arrest or so on. And there are some each and every time you are exposed to the allergen your reaction will worsen to the point, the next time it might kill you within seconds. So yea, people might be misinformed about allergies.
Imo it's flat out rude to have a cake with ingredients to which you know a guest is fatally allergic. Even if they aren't a family member. At the very least, you could have two cakes, if you are passionately keen on a certain one.
If OP is 'deathly allergic' to peanuts, she shouldn't have been able to even be in the room let alone come into any contact with peanuts. One of my best friends has a strong peanut allergy and will get a reaction from just breathing near him if you have had so much as a peanut M&M.
Even if his father had ignored her and went into business with his brother, she would have ruined it, probably by divorcing him and trying to get her cut.
As someone who is allergic to peanuts, spitting it out and wiping out the mouth is not enough to stop a reaction to such a cake. Anyone with that type of allergy would use their epipen and go to the ER because anaphylactic shock can kill you fast. It's astonishing to me that someone with such an allergic could grab cake and smash anyone with it. Sorry but I'm not buying this story.
If that was me and I knew I had an Epipen or whatever, I would have made scene AND then ate the cake she was accusing me of not being allergic to. Then dramatically fall down and have to be brought to the hospital.
I used to work in food service and one thing that was really hammered down for us was allergies and to always pay attention to them and then if someone told me they have an allergy I will always take their word for it cause I don’t want to be the one who causes a reaction
She try to kill you. WTH people don't see that. If you and hubby do have kids don't let her ever see them. Protect you and hubby. Go NC would mack it a bit ez. Good luck and have a good life.
They are absolutely right, the fight wasn’t about them having kids. It was about Sharon attempting to KILL OP. There is no overreaction to attempted murder. Also, Ben wasn’t sticking up for them, he was finally sticking up for himself. His actions aren’t OP’s fault even if the cake incident was the catalyst.
I'm surprised that OP was shocked that MIL would blame her for the divorce because I saw that one coming a mile away. Based on all of MIL's actions, she totally seemed to be the type to blame her divorce on anybody except herself and, since lately it seems like OP has been living rent-free in her head, I was not surprised that OP would be the one that she blamed. It's sad, really. I'm glad OP has the support of her husband, though. In too many of these reddit MIL stories the husband isn't on his wife's side, so it's nice to see one who is.
I'd file a report for 2nd degree attempted murder, and she can get life imprisonment. And she should be lucky if she gets parole. Edit: I forgot to include that OP needs to file a defamation lawsuit.
I'm immature as hell... Doesn't want kids... deathly allergic to nuts of any kind.... no wonder she doesn't want kids >.> it'll kill her!.... I'll see myself out....
9:34 This is clearly not just about telling MIL that you don't want to have children. It sounds like she didn't like OP from the start of the relationship with her son. Sounds like MIL thinks she took her precious baby boy away from her.
If the MIL hadn’t force fed her cake no of that would have happened. They can’t blame the person that could have gotten hurt because of their personal decisions.
I have the kind of tree nut allergy OP is talking about, and no amount of paper towels and mouthwashing is going to keep me from at least an extended hospital stay if not grave.
Mil is wrong I know. But people with selfish behaviour who don't want kids is beyond my imagination. I can't 100% trust them. She will leave her husband in a sec if something doesn't happen her way. She doesn't know but she also is like her mil.
It doesn't matter how severe her allergies are or aren't, she didn't want to take a chance, so is Op the bad person for not wanting to duck around and find out how severe her allergies is?
@@mad4manga435 "But people with selfish behaviour who don't want kids is beyond my imagination." What person with a peanut and tree nut allergy willingly and knowingly picks up an allergen after nearly having an allergic reaction. My mum has a similar allergy and here's the thing, touch is just as bad as consumption with peanuts. Not buying this at all.
I feel like allergies to peanut compose like 85% of all existing allergies in human history. What is it that peanuts have that can kill so many people?
1 daughter is seriously allergic to any peanut. Another daughter allergic to coconut. Kind of wondering why her parents didn't step up when their daughters face was smashed with the cake
its absolutely not ops fault. peanut allergies are almost ALWAYS severe, and OP is very lucky she didnt end up in the hospital. if she did, MIL could be charged for attempted murder
Can you imagine the ironic karma, if OP and Frank end up having a kid (on accident) and Sharon is never allowed to be in that desired grandchild’s life. She’d probably have a full on psychotic break 🤣
Force-feeding someone something their allergic to sounds like attempted murder.

It is...
It depends on intent and outcome. It does meet the bar for assault

That nut allergy could be from contact also, even touching the stuff can be dangerous for some people;
Shoving something that someone is allergic to INTO THEIR MOUTH should count as attempted murder and she should face jail time
she did not overreact. if anything, she completely under reacted. if someone attempted to murder me (yes, knowingly feeding someone something they are deathly allergic to is attempted murder), i would defend myself until the threat is neutralized.
so for reference, some nut allergies can be severe enough to where there's a strong reaction from ingesting even a little shard of nut.
when being forced to consume such a large quantity of nuts OP could've had a severe enough reaction that even an EpiPen wouldn't have helped and she could've literally died
Mother-in-laws are actually monsters but more so resembling the shape of human beings. Always be careful around them.
Not all mothers in laws.
Oddly enough it's a gamble. You can have the sweetest woman in the world or the spawn of satan as a mother-in-law. There's never an in-between.
Mine is great, I love her. My mom on the other hand is the crazy one unfortunately
I heard this one before, but it was nice to rehear it after it was proof-read
Fine. Tell them they can have it their way.
You'll play their little game.
You'll apologize for (correctly) guessing she caused that fight because you won't give her grandkids.
_Right after you go to the police to press charges for _*_assault and/or attempted murder_*
But on the bright side of things, all that money you save not having kids can go towards sending her to jail! It's a win-win!
For you anyways... 😅
You don't have to retire at 60 or even 70. You can work until you die if you really want to.
true but not everyone wants to work their whole life
That attempted murder. I'd press charges. I'm certain someone had been recording it.
"They think I have overreacted" SHE TRIED TO KILL HER
That MIL sounds so much like my mother.
Unfortunately mine too 😔😔
at first, I tought Frank was an only child. so, it kinda makes sense why his mother was trying to convince them to have a child. but turns out, Frank has an older brother. she still can become a grandma if her other son has a kid. why does she keep bothering OP
Because she’s not fulfilling her womanly duties to pop out kids
Why didn’t OP’s parents intervene? There’s no damn way anyone would be able to treat my child that way in my face and I not do anything about it!
The few people i have known with a peanut all allergys can't even touch them.i thought this is always the case. Am i wrong?
Some people have it worse than others. As a person with a peanut allergy, it varies
It's reasonable to believe that a person with a moderate allergy can handle contact with and allergen but not consumption
There's some fascinating literature about allergies
Report of attempted murder
This was the exact amount of time for me to finish my dinner. Thanks.
Imo it's flat out rude to have a cake with ingredients to which you know a guest is fatally allergic. Even if they aren't a family member.
At the very least, you could have two cakes, if you are passionately keen on a certain one.
Dude is in his 50s acting like his life is over. People in their 50s are still 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
There was mention of him being sick so maybe that's why? But yes, I agree.
I started my new job at 51 and am KILLING it. I’ve been promoted twice and am well respected by my peers. Go for it!!
Are you sure her name is Sharon and not Karen??
I literally just watched a Reddit vid about a crazy MIL named Sharon before this vid, this is insane
“Made the event about herself” when Sharon was the one harassing her over her not wanting to have kids? Gaslighting!
She legit tried to murder her daughter in law and then everyone else really blamed the victim.
ohhhh listening to ben’s story has me almost in tears that poor man
MIL was like this.. the poor me routine after stirring the pot was exhausting!!😖
Should have called the police on her, that was assault.
Sounds like the other relatives don’t know about OP’s deathly allergy.
So MIL tried feeding OP a cake that shes deathly allergic too and its whatever, but when OP smashes the cake in MIL's face its overreacting?
As someone who is allergic to peanuts, spitting it out and wiping out the mouth is not enough to stop a reaction to such a cake. Anyone with that type of allergy would use their epipen and go to the ER because anaphylactic shock can kill you fast. It's astonishing to me that someone with such an allergic could grab cake and smash anyone with it. Sorry but I'm not buying this story.
If that was me and I knew I had an Epipen or whatever, I would have made scene AND then ate the cake she was accusing me of not being allergic to. Then dramatically fall down and have to be brought to the hospital.
Press charges. Make it official.
Frank was over 20 how was she going take him
MIL is lucky OP didn't call the cops.
Should press charges, could be as far as attempted murder
I used to work in food service and one thing that was really hammered down for us was allergies and to always pay attention to them and then if someone told me they have an allergy I will always take their word for it cause I don’t want to be the one who causes a reaction
MIL basically tried to kill OP
MIL Sharon seems like the sort that was never told “No” or can’t take what she dishes out- pun intended
She try to kill you. WTH people don't see that. If you and hubby do have kids don't let her ever see them. Protect you and hubby. Go NC would mack it a bit ez. Good luck and have a good life.
She had that cake made on purpose knowing that OP was allergic to peanuts. Sharon set all this drama off herself.
If she was deathly allergic then why didn’t she leave after wiping it off right away ? I’m a little confused
In too many of these reddit MIL stories the husband isn't on his wife's side, so it's nice to see one who is.
even if the allergy "is not that serious" you still shouldnt force feed it to someone. BOUNDRIES girl
I'd file a report for 2nd degree attempted murder, and she can get life imprisonment. And she should be lucky if she gets parole.
Edit: I forgot to include that OP needs to file a defamation lawsuit.
The fact that the son knew his mom was going to explode mentally says a lot about how she is.
I'm immature as hell... Doesn't want kids... deathly allergic to nuts of any kind.... no wonder she doesn't want kids >.> it'll kill her!.... I'll see myself out....

This is clearly not just about telling MIL that you don't want to have children. It sounds like she didn't like OP from the start of the relationship with her son. Sounds like MIL thinks she took her precious baby boy away from her.
If the MIL hadn’t force fed her cake no of that would have happened. They can’t blame the person that could have gotten hurt because of their personal decisions.
She should call the police and put her mil in jail
Ok so deathly allegic means u can have it in or around ur mouth and just pick up the cake with your hands and have no reaction?
I have the kind of tree nut allergy OP is talking about, and no amount of paper towels and mouthwashing is going to keep me from at least an extended hospital stay if not grave.
Mil is wrong I know.
But people with selfish behaviour who don't want kids is beyond my imagination.
I can't 100% trust them.
She will leave her husband in a sec if something doesn't happen her way.
She doesn't know but she also is like her mil.
@@mad4manga435 it's selfish to not want to bring children into the world when you cant afford them????
It doesn't matter how severe her allergies are or aren't, she didn't want to take a chance, so is Op the bad person for not wanting to duck around and find out how severe her allergies is?
@@mad4manga435
"But people with selfish behaviour who don't want kids is beyond my imagination."
By that logic, one could argue that it is selfish to want to have kids, get pregnant, when there are millions -- hell, billions all over the world -- of kids in orphanages in need of a home
We should all stop procreating and instead start filing adoption papers, no?
That's fucking assault.
No actually attempted murder
I find it really comforting that the only people who post the AITA? Posts are the people who arent TA's. I have a strong feeling this is because the people who are the assholes know that theyre batshit crazy and they refuse to out themselves like that from embarrassment lmaoo
What person with a peanut and tree nut allergy willingly and knowingly picks up an allergen after nearly having an allergic reaction. My mum has a similar allergy and here's the thing, touch is just as bad as consumption with peanuts. Not buying this at all.
What intellectual courage you have! Borne of having done no reading on nut allergies at all.
Sharon is freaking delusional and a control freak. She did this to herself and has no one else to blame but herself
Honestly the MIL is lucky she wasn't charged with attempted murder.
I feel like allergies to peanut compose like 85% of all existing allergies in human history.
What is it that peanuts have that can kill so many people?
Frank is a real one
This blew the lid on a bad can of worms
Man if that was any of my family that made my husband or wife try to eat something they were alergic to, you know they ain't my family anymore
1 daughter is seriously allergic to any peanut. Another daughter allergic to coconut. Kind of wondering why her parents didn't step up when their daughters face was smashed with the cake
FIL Ben = BASED MVP SIGMA CHAD 💯😎🚬
its absolutely not ops fault. peanut allergies are almost ALWAYS severe, and OP is very lucky she didnt end up in the hospital. if she did, MIL could be charged for attempted murder
Can you imagine the ironic karma, if OP and Frank end up having a kid (on accident) and Sharon is never allowed to be in that desired grandchild’s life.
She’d probably have a full on psychotic break 🤣
Happy Ending all around!
Yea. The on who tried to murder her DIL because she dosen’t want to have kids is definitely not at fault.
You know she can be arrested for force feeding someone with an allergy 😅it’s intent to kill
