If you want to announce something and you don't want to pressure the wife just say: "Hey, I love you very much and I want you to know that I am Pregnat, I won't announce it on your event but I am soo happy I want you and ... to know it and will tell them to keep quiet. I just wanted to tell you because I will behave differently/ won't be able to drink/ might feel ... . But this is your event and I won't take the light away from you" and THEN there is the chance for the host to say: "Oh you can announce it on my event"

If someone announces a pregnancy or gets engaged at your birthday, wedding, baby shower whatnot - they should be given the bill for said event
That seems to be happening more today. People announce a pregnancy at a wedding,turning it into a baby announcement/shower. Bride and groom send the expecting couple an invoice for the reception or at least 1/2 the cost of the reception.

One of my family members got married on my birthday ans I honestly didn't care. I was happy for her. She also got saved on my birthday too. It just makes the day more special. But announcing that you're having a baby to your family who is not having a baby and is trying is just horrible.
Jenny is wrong on every level. She shouldn't have made someone else's anniversary about herself, and she knew OP was struggling with pregnancy, so this was a personal attack.
A premeditated personal attack. She already knew she was pregnant when she had that conversation with OP, but chose to remain silent. If her intentions were good, she could have said it right then. "We just found out that we're pregnant. Don't worry it will happen for you too, and even if it doesn't etc etc etc" and could have remained a good friend. The crappy intentions were clear when she lied to her husband and family that she had cleared the announcement with OP.
IF she'd cleared it, their anger at OP would have ALMOST been justified. In the moment it still could have hit hard. Walking out of the room to calm down was the only correct action in that situation.

Well, not an excuse or anything, but there might be a reason to it. SIL looks entitled, maybe narcissistic, so the last thing she would want is for others to get more attention than her (or any at all). So if their parents were treating her and OP's husband equally, she could become jealous/bitter?
Like, it all fell on her like puzzles into place. She WANTS to be favourite child and get the attention, just got pregnant, and get to know that her brother might not get kids at all. Of course parents will prefer grandkids than just a DIL, so forcing the whole annoucment and later on confrontation was just in favor to her scheme.

Honnestly, it's worse if Jenny truly thought it'd cheer up OP like she's saying to defend herself. Then, the fact she didn't ask OP and hid from her husband means she knew, to some degree, that people would disagree with her plan, and then when she's proved wrong she double down and says she wasn't wrong and OP's reaction was.

The bottom line is that party was for Op and her husband. If the Sil wanted to tell everyone about her pregnancy she could plan a party with her husband, not steal the spotlight from Op and her husband, and act like their in the wrong for not giving her the “spotlight” when it wasn’t hers to begin with.
It is normal for it to take a whole year to get pregnant try not to be tense OP. Remember it is only a 12% chance every month.
Stressing about it also makes it far more difficult, too, but it's so hard to tell yourself not to stress about it when you've been doing everything imaginable to make it happen.

Oh, this hit close to home. Me and my wife been struggling for years with infertility. My brother and my sil forced us to take care of their kids, and announced a new kid the day of our 3rd anniversary. This damaged our relationship a lot. We are still struggling ...

Grief from unable to conceive is very real and shouldn't be underestimated. Breaking the news while knowing some family member still trying for MUCH longer is a struggle by itself. It's still better to be cautious even if they said they were child-free.

Honestly, OP keeping her feeling bottled up and stressing herself out is contributing to her not getting pregnant. The more stressed you are, the less likely you are to get pregnanat. That's why babies are often conceived on vacation, you finally relax.

In theory, REALLY HEAVY THEORY it could work if they were sisters/twins, and the struggle were on their family side. When asked and getting premission to annouce it, it could be like "hey look, I did get through and got pregnant, so just stay strong and you will also get your kid!", but it depends on their dynamic. More logically when OP was upset and didn't want to think about it at all, was she would also get upset, even mad because her sister got pregnant, and she can't? Unfair!
So yeah, there are one digit examples where it could go right, but milions of scenarios where it's just petty and mean

I may have missed it, but I think no one else pointed out that the meeting SIL wanted to only be between her brother and her (certainly not involving OP) ended up being an attempt at reconciliation with the couple (a matter that really should involve OP)? Exactly. And the part that he's filing for full custody of his and his ex-wife's unborn child? In what universe would a judge approve of that? In case of the majority of divorces, the mother gets to be the main caretaker of the child and/or the custody is shared between the parents. The only case when the mother can lose every custody is if she seriously endangers the child, eg. alcoholism, drugs, physical abuse. None of which are true of "Jenny", as far as the post goes.
Not to mention thatJenny's and her husband's child HAS NOT EVEN BEEN BORN yet. How would that even work? Would there be some legal person waiting at a delivery room and take away the newborn child from the mother just after she's given birth? And for what reason? Because she had been mean to someone? That's not how the real life works at all. Nobody can take away a newborn from their mother just like that without some very serious reason, and "she was an asshole to her brother's wife" isn't sufficient for that.

I understand OP, as my husband and I are trying for a baby as well for the past several years. It hasn't gone well. He's fine, it's me. I just did my last round of IUI before seeing what the problem is, as my OBGYN recommended. Keeping my fingers crossed for this one.
