When this happened, I lived right around the corner. I knew people who lost friends and loved ones. So many of us felt so much anger once we realized this was in intentional act. To know a mother and a nurse put so many at risk over an insurance payday was just sickening. At first, many of us couldn't sleep at nights out of fear our own gas line would blow up. Then when we found out she did it, it made for sleepless nights thinking how easy it was for one person to blow up an entire neighborhood.
Dear Lord, what is wrong with some people?? My family & I had to evacuate from an apt. that we rented from a lifelong family friend. My son called me down where boiler was located. All I could smell was (mercaptan) rotten egg smell all throughout the basement. Told him to take cell phone but not to press any buttons, light switches, etc. & go out of house far away & call FDNY. They came asap. We all evacuated, they shut down gas valve lines. House was ready to explode.😢

My co-worker blew up his house using the fill-the-house-up-with-natural-gas method also. I never heard how the gas was ignited. His body was found in the basement where the natural gas line entered the house. The house was completely destroyed but somehow the nearby houses received only partial damage. I lived a couple of miles from his house and when it happened we were entertaining my sister and brother-in-law at my home. We heard and felt a large ‘thud’ sound and I thought our young children were jumping off a bed upstairs. I only found out the next day about the explosion. I liked my co-worker but I also knew that his wife had taken their kids and had left him. I knew this because we lived next door to the wife’s sister and she filled us in on the domestic drama. It came to light that his wife had good reasons to leave him. He was kind at work but I guess he had a hidden side of controlling and angry behaviour within his home. The common cliche of “no one knows what goes on behind closed doors” was true in his case.
Blowing up your house honestly shows his character but at least he thankfully didn't take the kids with him like some jellous controlling partners when the other partner decides to leave but perhaps he didn't get access to them.

RIP those poor victims that was probably asleep next door. These two twits should have taken the hint when the plan did not happen the two weekends prior and given up!!!!
I think the sentence is fair. As well as taking two lives, she likely ruined many others. Not everyone can afford the best home insurance and I bet that some of the people whose homes were pulled down lost substantially, perhaps to the point of not being able to buy new homes (unless the state compensated them). She had SO MUCH time to think and stop it. Not only did she know (and apparently not care) that he was defrauding other people, their scheme had failed twice. Anyone with a conscience would have contacted police.

My condolences to the family and friends of the young couple killed from the explosion. In my opinion, justice was fairly served considering the extreme level of death and destruction caused by all of the criminals convicted and sentenced in this case.
I was living in Indiana at the time and remember this like it was yesterday. Men and women are “equal” but people always want women to do less time for the exact same crimes for some reason. She was involved in a fraudulent scheme that got 2 people killed and caused millions in damages. If you are an adult and allow someone to manipulate you, that is still YOUR DECISION. Stupid games lead to stupid prizes. Her sentence was too light.
Child support can be such a scam. I saw it first hand with my parents. My mother hid her income so she could get more $ from my dad and let’s just say she only spend what she absolutely had to on me. He bought me what I needed almost always, outside of the support money he paid. And my middle and high school tuition. I see it happen with friends of mine today even, the mother won’t work so she gets as much money as possible and gets bills all paid by the new husband - spends barely anything on the child. It’s a broken system.
It's a sad situation but I can't see what the answer would be. The courts can't facilitate a controlling ex getting more opportunities to control the mother. I mean essentially what you're saying is that an adult women should have been supervised.
I've seen this very often. That's why I and the mother of my kids signed a legal paper in case of a separation. We lived together 20 years without being married. But when she came to live with me, we signed legal paper that said that we kept what we paid for. It's fair and it's not expensive. And if someone refuse to sign it, you know why they are interested in you.
I would love to see a documentary on how crime scene investigators solve these cases. How did you know the microwave was use as the ignition source when it’s in pieces 5 houses down? How do you know that the valve on the fireplace was missing when the fireplace is in a million pieces so technical it itself is missing as well. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I don’t believe them. It’s just hard to imagine them finding all the pieces they need in order to make it all come together in the end to come up with an educated guess as to what happened. I mean I walk into my kids room and shits a mess. I ask who did it and they blame either other. There’s a 50% chance I get it right but yet I can never figure it out 😆😆😆

I am a retired cop and a retired attorney. I want to take a moment to clarify how somebody can be prosecuted for premeditated murder for an accidental death that occurred during the commission of an arson related offense even if the person did not intend to kill anybody. The law varies in the U.S. between states but most states have some version of the “felony murder rule”. Under the felony murder rule, any death caused during the commission of a felony can be prosecuted as premeditated murder. Premeditated murder is generally the highest degree of murder under a state’s laws. A conviction for premeditated murder generally carries the harshest penalties of any type of murder. I will provide a couple of examples. Example No. 1: Two guys go into a liquor store to commit a robbery. The store clerk experiences extreme emotional distress and has a heart attack during the course of the robbery. The two robbers can be prosecuted for premeditated murder under the felony murder rule even though the clerk died of a heart attack. Example No. 2: A young couple is experiencing severe financial problems. They decide to rob a bank to get the money they need. During the robbery, a security guard shoots and kills the man. The woman can be charged with the premeditated murder of her partner under the felony murder rule even though it was the security guard who actually shot and killed her partner. There are three common justifications given for the felony murder rule. The first justification is that the felony murder rule discourages criminals from committing felony offenses. The second justification is that the felony murder rule provides an incentive for criminals to take the maximum possible care for the safety of potential victims if a felony is committed. The third justification is that felons should be held responsible for any deaths they cause whether they intended to cause those deaths or not. After all, the victim is dead regardless of the criminal’s intent. There are obvious arguments for and against the felony murder rule. I think I heard every variation of those arguments when I was in law school.
50 years is 'excessive' for a woman who knew about the plot & did nothing to stop it & didn't care who got harmed? Oh, yeah, sorry, she must have been 'tricked' by the guy's 'charm.' A woman could never have an immoral or criminal impulse on her own... it has to be the guy's fault. She's as culpable as everyone else in this sad sad affair. BTW what happened to the child? Did the father get custody? That's the only GOOD I see coming out of this.
Considering than in most developed countries such a sentence would be impossible I guess one could say so, then again in the US sentences seem to be excessive almost always to the rest of the world
Such extreme sentences are the outliers. Usually, people do very little time in the US. Murder is often plea bargained down to manslaughter and the killer is out in about 7 years, or less. This doesn't make us happy. Most of us believe that too lenient sentences don't show reverence for human life, encourage victims to retaliate, and are inadequate to protect the community. @oceanstaiga5928
As an Australian who has a degree in criminal justice, i think that sentencing in the U.S is much better than here in Australia, or the U.K, Canada, and other countries in Europe. @@oceanstaiga5928
@oceanstaiga5928 Indeed, US sentences are excessive, clearly doesn't act as deterrent, people rotting in jail for years seems like cruel and unusual punishment. The US has prison complexes bigger than some European cities. Their prisons are privatised so there is a profit motive. Sick society. Yes, I am from the UK
@@helenmcdonnell2585 I myself have never been to the US let alone any prison there but from the statistics it is unsettling how large of a percentage of their population is behind bars. Her sentence was not too long. She could have called 911 and reported the gas leak after they left. If she had stopped at the Speedway gas station on the corner and called 911, the firestation across the street from the neighborhood could have intervened, Saving Jennifer and Dion. Everyone would have still gone to jail but her deal would have been a fraction of the time. She had so many opportunities to stop this mess. She could have reported the plan before and law enforcement would have been able to help prevent it. She wanted the money and if FAR from a victim!

Never ceases to Surprise me how good investigators are like nothing left of the crime scene eventually and he can still put the pieces together like that it’s astounding
Right!! Those parts could have been blown into the next county.. but they figured it out!
This explosion was SO disruptive and damaging to so many people for quite a long time. The neighbors who lost their homes were displaced for years. It was CRAZY. Plenty of lingering PTSD, too.
I remember this. I was walking my dog and heard a huge boom all the way in Greenwood. Initially I thought perhaps there was a training exercise going on at Atterbury, but then I heard all the sirens and found out otherwise.
Scary for you. 😔 Was your dog scared?
@@Muffy-b1g she was ok, she was never bothered by loud noises. I could walk her at night on the 4th of July and she wouldn’t bat an eye. We feel lucky to have had her in our lives. 😊
People around here don’t believe her sentence was too harsh. She showed zero remorse. The only tears were for herself. She erased the young couple next door. She was a lying, cheating bar-fly. Disgusting.
As they would say in the Dragon Ball Z Ocean dub, “they were sent the next dimension.” Lol
I agree. She allowed him to carry on with his charades with other women and not once, but three times let him attempt to blow up her house with success on the third try. Then, to try to con the insurance company saying that she owned a Picasso shows me she is just as much a cold criminal as the rest of them. Those poor neighbors that were killed...they had their entire lives ahead of them.
Same here.
That’s a matter of opinion. The problem is going forward suspects in your county are going to be very hesitant to cooperate in exchange for a lighter sentence now. The DA in your county has demonstrated he/she isn’t trustworthy.
@@Ken-fh4jcthat’s what she gets for not getting a better plea bargain. Can’t leave it up to the judge - that’s not even the DAs doing half the time. They can only say Hey she kinda helped so go easy on her. Unless it’s already on paper exactly how long you’re gonna get, you might as well not cooperate.
Also, no sympathy for any criminals so idc what she got.
I know the type. I found myself in a relationship with a guy who was charming at work and everyone, coworkers and customers alike, thought he was so nice, and in reality he was a monster. Of course he didn’t let me see that side until I was too deep into his vortex. Very true, you don’t always know what’s going on behind closed doors.
@Joe-qm4yv It’s not slander if it’s true, and my sources are a nine out of 10. I don’t name the person nor can anyone trace his or my personal history regarding my story. Go back to law school my friend.
These people were so stupid as to apparently think that doubling the replacement cost value on their home would mean that they would pocket the excess.
Stupid people can be so scary.
Just a reminder, I'm not diagnosing anybody in this video; only speculating about what could be happening when a house blows up real good like this.

For real! Right! Makes my own snafus seem tame.
Me, waiting to hear if Snowball was okay: *Oh, thank god.*
Kudos to the fire investigators who determined the cause of the explosion. Many activities act as clues to arson like vacating the house, removing valuables, raising insurance, etc. Good job investigators!
Exotic dancing is probably an admired skill in prison.
I love how Dr. Grande even includes exact details like "she lived with her daughter a cat named 'snowball' 😂😂...and clever deatail about boarding snowball
I hope someone looked after snowball after her owners went to the can
And that picture was the actual cat Snowball!
I don't know why, but it still baffles me at the stupidity of some of these criminals. Them going to a casino, and make no effort to convincingly appear as if they want to be there. Wow.
'Natural Gaslight' is wild man, holy crap 😂😭
How greedy, and wreckless, and selfish. They killed a neighbor couple, injured 12 other neighbors, and destroyed many homes in their neighborhood. For money. And now they are in prison....how was this worth 2 human beings lives, all the pain and suffering of others, just complete and utter destruction. All the money in the world, would never make me do something so awful to get it. Work and save people. This was just rotten.
We have bad news, your house blew up. “Oh no, my Picasso was in there “ 😂😎✌🏻

This happened in my neighborhood. It was the most terrifying event I've ever experienced.

There's a reason why Greed is one of the deadly sins. These people are pathetic
I mean did they not know this would destroy the whole neighborhood. Most people would just their house on fire. This is one of the dumbest most reckless things I have ever seen. And the poor victims.

This is exactly what happened in the film Double Jeopardy starring Tommy Lee Jones & Ashley Judd. Bruce Greenwood's character loosened the gas valve on the stove in order to kill Ashley Judd's character's friend after fearing she would reveal to the authorities that he faked his death in order to receive $2 million in life insurance that Ashley Judd had on him.

I’m glad snowball was safe.
Selfish slags.
And those who would actually need child support don't get any. If both have the kids I don't think the other person should get child support though.
@@GlasPthalocyanineOr having their kids sent to live with their father.
There’s a 50% chance I get it right but yet I can never figure it out 😆😆😆
How was the microwave used as a ignition source? I don't quite understand since the door would have to be closed before it could be turned on.

The discussions of punishments for any crime will probably stay forever in our human society but it doesn’t seem that rehabilitation is working quite well yet like you said

If she had stopped at the Speedway gas station on the corner and called 911, the firestation across the street from the neighborhood could have intervened, Saving Jennifer and Dion.
