Dear Baycrest, I see your senior execs seem to be sincere in their belief that ADRD cause people who live with them to become agitated and aggressive, a belief I believe is counterproductive to providing the kind of excellent care I'm sure you want to deliver.
I also believe there are more choices than those outlined in this video and the article on your website on the same topic. I wonder if your executives have ever considered the possibility that the "challenging behaviours" they attribute to dementia are not the result of dementia at all, but rather the result of being human? What would care look like if, instead of attributing the behaviour to dementia, it was attributed to the physical environment, the social environment, the approach to care, etc.?
What about looking at behaviour through something other than the broken lens of BPSD: www.jamda.com/article/S1525-8610(17)30636-9/abstract
I, and others like me, believe this kind of approach will deliver better, healthier and safer outcomes for all concerned.

I have written CBC Marketplace an open letter here: myalzheimersstory.com/2018/02/14/an-open-letter-to-cbc-marketplace-regarding-crying-out-for-care/
And I am producing a series of three posts on the CCTV video beginning with this one: myalzheimersstory.com/2018/02/15/the-shocking-truth-behind-this-tragic-video/
