This game had a unique atmosphere that Arma 3 lacked. It just feels right and that you really are in Eastern Europe.

Fr I didn't even realize that Arma 3s Stratis map was based on a real place it j felt like a videogame environment for an open world game
Arma 3 has better mechanics and a better feel than Arma 2. But Arma 2 is way better in my opinion. I don’t like how all the maps on Arma 3 are the same. I’ve never liked dessert combat type gameplay. I love going through to forests of a real place fighting real enemies with real vehicles. I always find myself trying to download maps and vehicals on Arma 3 from Arma 2. Arma 2 has a special and nostalgic place in my heart. Time to get it back.
I disagree. I think the perception of arma 3 being “better” is simply because “smoothness” has become associated with “progress”.
I would argue the mechanics implemented in arma 3 are not how the game should be and shows the first signs of the series moving towards a more “casual” instead of “hardcore” series.
Everything from the weapon recoils to turn speed to the UI aesthetics and choice of crosshair in the game. It all screams “casual”, “easy” and “simple”.
To simplify the game to make it more “friendly” to casual gamers. Unlike arma 2 that was built to be for a hardcore audience thus it’s mechanics are built to be “hardcore” and “real”

I love arma 2. if the dated look of arma 2/oa holds you back, you can install SSL mod and the reshade present (ultimate graphic improvement) in moddb arma 2 oa. That insanely improve graphics
Arma 2 and 3 were alwways too much for my pc growing up..i plaues a total of 8 hours intil i got my modern rig last tear ..yet arma 2 is still my fav game ever. I sometime load in and just sit in it. It odd it feels comfortable. The ambience, the sound, the clackikg of my gear as i run

ArmA 2 is my favorite because it's great vanilla, no mods required. The perfect era of weapons and units. It has great ambience, realistic lighting, distant skybox, the built in ambient combat module combined with the secops manager is just hours of fun for us who like small team special ops behind enemy lines. Built in medical system that allows your character to fire their weapon and crawl around like a last stand before being healed or bleeding out, it also allows dragging. Built in civilian life and vehicle manager, ambient animals, ambient effects module that creates snow for example depending on time of year. The list goes on. ArmA 3 has none of the above, it's just an empty shell for modders.
I'm playing Arma 2 OA & Dayz Mod since 2014 and i'm still playing this game every day. In my opinion arma 2 Is Better than DayZ SA & Arma 3.

Arma 2 truly is the masterpiece of Bohemia.
When comparing not just this game but this work of art to its successor products it really shows how Bohemia has slipped from the pinnacle product they created.
Really it’s hard to believe the same company made arma 3 and dayz as they don’t even compare to this masterpiece. It’s almost like completely different people made this game and then left. Very bizarre especially when you check the credits of both games and see it is the same people.
How does that happen?
How do you create arma 2 and then with the same exact people create a watered down piece of trash like arma 3 and consequentially dayz standalone? How does that happen? I don’t know

Guys Arma 2 still work on win10 64x???. Because i play in operation flashpoint long time ago, and its amazing. I play in arma 3 and its not very good for me. Sorry for my english?
I missed the arma 2 wasteland days. Dayz was cool, but I only really liked dayz overwatch.
Wasteland was amazing back in the day, when people would actually team up to build massive bases and the teams would fight it out. Unfortunately arma 3 wasteland is absolutely nothing like it

I literally have to buy a special pack. That’s almost $100 to play Day Z like can’t they just put the stuff in the game
The gloomy, eastern-European look and atmosphere of Arma 2, and the ambient sounds makes Arma 2: mods so much better than both Arma 3 and Standalone. It is impossible to not like the Epoch mod, which, by, the way, had an awesome update as late as earlier this year with 1.0.7.1 Epoch. New servers are coming up still and new scripts are being added by creative people. Arma 3 feels like a holiday in Greece and SA will never be a finished game. Looks pretty good but feels empty compared to Arma 2 and has some of the worst and dumbest features in gaming history.
Arma 2 mods are the original and best and everyone should just go back to them now. :)

Always found ArmA 2 so much more interesting and fitting for a MilSim title, just the proper look and feel for the setting and not a Mediterranean sightseeing tour in Greece. The DayZ garbage was already the first obvious signs of retardation and mongrelization of the playerbase, just like Altis Life with its "roleplaying" crap.
And didn't ArmA 2 invent the Battle Royale genre already or was that 3? I remember squads closing in on ever smaller areas with the ability to buy stuff beforehand like in Counter Strike. OR were these "domination" servers? Can't remember anymore.
Arma 2 OA with JSRS sound mod and Blastcore is way better than Arma 3.
