+Nick in the States That's awesome Nick - thanks for your encouraging words and good luck with your practice! You know Nick, you might be able to help me out by answering a really simple question. What's been the main problem with most lick books/DVD's you've used in the past? Like, poor explanations, licks way too hard, whatever? It'll just help me make my stuff as good as I can. Hope you don't mind me asking Nick! Cheers and looking forward to your next video! James
Cool Matthew...thanks for watching the lesson. Hope you find a way to use them in your playing! If you like my lessons then check out my online community and website at jamesshipwayguitar.com Maybe see you there sometime! Cheers, James

hey man! wasnt expecting to find your comment on the 'George lynch destroying the guitar' video! awesome page and videos man! how about doing some lynch style licks?
+Lathaniel Collins Hi Lathaniel... yeah, wasn't expecting to bump into you out here in cyberspace either! Hope all is going well for you man - wherever you're studying or playing these days. Thanks for your encouragement about my videos - sure you'll recognise some of it from your days at the Academy! As for the Lynch licks...yeah, thinking maybe an 80's Guitar Legends video or something, George, Jake E Lee, Van Halen - could be a cool idea. Will give it some thought. Take care man and catch you later. ; )
+James Shipway Guitar Yeah things are good .. doing the degree course at the academy .. going into the second year in october..are you teaching at the academy still? ... Yeah the 80s george lynch/ warren demartini and van halen thing i think would be popular.. If you wanted to i have a george lynch vintage bengal tiger guitar ( up pointing headstock, singlecoil and humbucker and floyd type thing ) you could use for a vid if you wanted .. VERY 80s haha . good chatting with you man !
Got it on Amazon! Yeah, do like the cool graphic n the front. Cheers for checking out my video lessons I help they're helping you out. If you like 'em then there's more at my site too: jamesshipwayguitar.com/freeguitarlessons Maybe see you there sometime and thanks for watching! James

I enjoy your lessons... anyway you could do some ace frehley licks? there's not much out there for him maybe you could do a KISS video. Bruce kulick was no slouch either

+James Shipway Guitar Well many greats like John 5 and many others list him as a influence. KISS alive I or II is a lot of many guitarists first records

Hi there! You're always going to get a little noise from an electric guitar with distortion, the trick is to use muting to keep it to a minimum. So left and right hand muting will handle this. If you mean the scratching noise you get from the pick striking the string...then I don't think you can get rid of it. Even awesome pickers like Paul Gilbert and Malmsteen get some amount of this noise. Hope that's helpful in some way. If you like my lessons then check out my website jamesshipwayguitar.com for more and www.totalguitarlab.com/ for my premium lessons! Hope to see you there sometime. Cheers and good luck with the picking! James
Hi there. Not sure...quite an old video. But bass and treble about 7, mid about 4, gain about 7 on that bugera amp I used for that one. Any higher gain sound should get you close. Good luck!
Hey there...thanks for letting me know my lessons are helping you out! I use 10-52 gauge strings on all my guitars, normally d'addario brand. Find they're easy to bend but still have a punchy bottom end. If you like my lessons then check out my website jamesshipwayguitar.com for more and www.totalguitarlab.com/ for my premium lessons! Hope to see you there sometime. Cheers! James
this is adrian smith... are not dave murray..

The first lick is also used in run to the hills solo played by Murray

Good stuff James :)
+Richard Kurbis (PAINFINGER) Thanks for watching Richard - glad you liked it ; )
Sounds more like Adrian Smith rather than Dave Murray. Nice video though!
+iluvkochikame Thanks for watching. The Maiden licks are based on Dave's solo from 'The Trooper'...at least I thought it was Dave! Maybe not...Cheers! J
+James Shipway Guitar They were Adrian's solo, although the first lick is something Dave does more often than Adrian, but in other solos
Nice video! Is there back tracking we can use?
I enjoy your lessons...

murray doesnt play like that, its adrian's
I heard some noise is coming when u start to pick.. That happens to me too. How can i get rid of that noise?

To all you young musicians, pick bits and pieces, but don't try to "sound like" anyone else. PLEASE!
What are the amp settings? Drive / gain?
Hi there. Not sure...quite an old video. But bass and treble about 7, mid about 4, gain about 7 on that bugera amp I used for that one. Any higher gain sound should get you close. Good luck!
@@JamesShipwayGuitar I'm asking not because I will try to get the same tone, I have seen some people playing with lots of gain and poor technique.
Loving your videos! What gauge strings do you use?
Hey there...thanks for letting me know my lessons are helping you out! I use 10-52 gauge strings on all my guitars, normally d'addario brand. translation......9s lol
@@jefferylord3068 Yeah, I think it's 9s too. 10s are too rigid for those bends
this reminds me more of adrian smith than dave murray.
Yep...you're not the first to say that. I think I maybe picked the wrong lick....
Sorry men but that style is Adrian Smit. Good video
Yep... you're not the first to tell me that! Guess i got the wrong part of the solo! Anyway, thanks for watching. Cheers! James
comic sans.... :P great stuff tho
great lesson. but you lied about the free tabs. unforgivable
Hi tere! Not sure what you mean...just checked it and working fine. Was there a problem? Let me know! James
I always thought Dave Mustaine had a bad taste in notes or just plays anything that he can play fast without listening to what he's playing, idk...
Can i say i love u ?
